Am I missing something with South Carolina?

It seems a lot of people think they can compete for the East this year. I dont see it. What am I missing? Last year, I saw a South Carolina team that was slightly less sucky than UT in a year where the Vols were historically bad. If Pruitt is the guy we think he is, the Vols should be at least third in the East behind Georgia and Florida. I just dont see any reasons to believe that South Carolina is going to be relevant in the East this year. Thoughts?

They lost one of, if not the most explosive player in the SECE last year in Samuels. He'll be back and their WRs were a nightmare matchup for the Vols that day. Frankly, Muschamp shut their offense down in the 2nd half cause he knew Vols wouldnt score many, if any TDs. It almost bit him but he ended up being right. They'll be a contender if they can beat GA at home on 9/8. They've got a shot.

I agree that SC isn't really in position to compete for the east, and I honestly feel the same way about Florida. They both have a few very-talented players and Mullen is a pretty good coach, but again it took a Hail Mary to beat the worst TN team ever last season. I think UGA is the class of the east and everyone else, including TN, is playing for 2nd place this year. Vols go 8-4

It's not a turn around. You just have to be mediocre to be third in the East.

Maybe so, but the Vols were much worse than mediocre last year. It wasn't just a matter of being soft, weak, or disorganized. We probably had more guys who out there who flat out quit than guys who gave their all.

In a way, I am kinda glad Fulmer is uglying up the uniforms. The way these guys played last season, they don't deserve a sharp looking uniform. In fact, until they play with some passion and toughness, they don't really deserve to wear a power T on their helmets. They need to earn it.

For those wondering how a team stacks up talent wise, 247 has a tool that ranks based on the total number of stars (3, 4, 5, etc.) on the roster. Even with this, it's still debatable, but it gives you a decent baseline to start from. Unfortunately, it's not updated for 2018 yet so this is 2017:

2017 College Football Team Talent Composite

So based on this, Tennessee was the 2nd most talented team in the SEC east last year.

I updated for all of the sec teams prior to spring ball. Tennessee still had the 2nd most talented roster in the east based on average star rating.

I don’t get all the hype. We were one play away from beating them last year and we had our worst year ever. I actually think Kentucky will finish ahead of them.

South Carolina isn't world beaters, not to be overlooked but not to be feared either. We just need to worry about ourselves. I expect us to play them tough but we have many games before worrying about them. GBO!

That system ranks players by their stars coming out of HS. It is not a ranking system of actual performance in college. Take TE Hurst from SC (1st TE drafted) who was 1st team All SEC. I would rate that a 5 star talent. This system rates him a 2 star. See the diff?

I dont like Our bad season last year. Having said that, what was needed to get that fraud coach out of town happened. Also the fans stood up to the house of haslam against their coach picks. We will be fine now with Pruitt.

Because no Tennessee has ever beaten a Muschamp coached team. We lost to him at Florida and we now lose to him at South Carolina

Yeah we stood up to Haslam but he is still there along with his money. My fear is how long will Haslam stay in check? He is definitely not an individual that is used to not getting what he wants. When we he get tired of Fulmer or Pruitt? It could be just a matter of time.

As long as that cancer is allowed to influence the university, the worse it will be.

We have beat muschamp how many times?

Thank god its just jake bentley they got. He's no Guarantano. Jake definitely doesnt have that kind of "arm talent". Proof is in all the times we've beat him.

So what do we got. We got a message board that acts out the routine they claim is reserved for vandy fans.

Yes Vandy fans. Are you offended that you reached such an Aesopian level of sourass grapes?

Nope, in fact Vandy acts out its vandiness from position elevated to yours. They earned that by beating the dogcrap from you and yours at a 70% clip. 6 years is a long time. Its a career. Or several when it comes to the laughingstock vol program and their respective Joke of an Athletic department.

Damn its almost funner making fun of the vols. Easy too.

General Neyland would roll over in his grave.

I'm pretty sure that last year, if one had the materials and access to his final resting place you could've eliminated the state's need for other power generation sources during the football season.

UT goes 0 fer in the Confernce, and finishes the season with 4 wins. SC places 2nd in the East and wins 9 games. But S.C. was just “slightly less sucky” than UT. Sure thing pops.

To be fair, considering the size of the USC school and it's resources they are on the rise with a driven coach, and some considerable athletic talent arguably able to compete for the East. (It'll be put up or shut up for the gamecocks against the dawgs game 2) I personally consider Muschamp tacky and ill mannered, not to mention a negative hot head and has no idea when to shut up.

South Carolina has a better chance to win against Georgia than they do against Clemson

Yeah. Well. Getting taken Down to a goal line stand at the end of the game by the worst Tennessee football team that’s ever played the game last year doesn’t exactly make South Carolina look like Alabama, now does it?

Maybe you haven’t noticed that Tennessee NEVER beats Florida? He can’t be Nick Saban and Bill Belichick’s more accomplished lovechild and wind up being a first ballot HOFer and still never beat Florida as Tennessee’s Head coach.

I believe you barely beat the worst Tennessee football in program history 15-9 last year...and you only won because we had a fairly inexperienced WR let a perfectly thrown pass go through his hands/arms in the end zone on the game’s final play. You guys are taking advantage of a pathetic SECe right now due to 2 of the 3 traditional powers stinking up the joint. Good on ya. But don’t get it twisted....you were a very average football team last year and you’ll be a very average football team again this year. Nobody sweats SCar, ever.
