Special counsel Mueller charges 12 Russian intelligence officers with hacking Democra

Dan Coats (Trump's own nominee for Director of National Intelligence, by the way) gave this statement earlier:

"The role of the Intelligence Community is to provide the best information and fact-based assessments possible for the President and policymakers," he further added that "We have been clear in our assessments of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and their ongoing, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy, and we will continue to provide unvarnished and objective intelligence in support of our national security."

Coats' statement came just hours after Trump stood next to Vladimir Putin at a news conference in Helsinki and accepted the Russian president's denials of interference in the U.S. election.

still waiting for you to acknowledge Coats' statement that I linked that Trump reads all daily briefings which is total opposite of what you tried to say

Not being sarcastic, but what should Trump have done in hindsight? It came across to me that Trump was trying to be peaceful to sow relations with a major nuclear power. What good would attacking him on camera do? No one still knows what was said in private.

He did not have to give a joint statement at a press conference. He could have given a separate statement where he held Putin and Russia accountable.

The last thing you do, is side with a dictator over your own Director of National Intelligence which is exactly what he did ... and Coats obviously saw it that way or else he wouldn't have released a statement on his own just hours after the Trump/Putin press conference.

I get your perspective, as well as other folks. I think he misspoke at worst, and it's been way overblown. IMO he was a sitting duck getting drilled in an attempted peaceful meeting...odd timing all this Russian indictment stuff?

Once he agreed to have a joint press conference with Putin, what did he expect would happen? That members of the press wouldn't ask about Russian interference in the 2016 election? He had to know those questions were coming and he had time to prepare for them. He is way too deferential of Putin.

Trump was crucifying Germany, with their dealings with Russia...today he's a Russian supporter...I dunno man, it's overblown

I listened to as much as i could but missed quite a bit. I keep hearing that trump was Putin's *****, but all i heard was trump being cordial and Putin being cordial with none of us knowing what was said behind closed doors.

Did Putin come out and slap trump? Call him names? Talk about his mother?

What did Putin do that was so much more manly and tougher then trump?

I mentioned in some thread, I don't recall which one, that I thought this was one of Trump's better press conferences.

Except for his answers regarding Russian assets attacking our election process. No one has said he should have told Putin to go f himself on live TV, but he clearly didn't misspeak. He has consistently attacked and thrown our IC under the bus while heaping praise on Putin. He even brought up Hillary because of his fragile ego. It made him look petty and weak, again. All he had to do was respectfully say we are looking into it, the investigation is ongoing, and it will not be tolerated.

Republicans are going after him on this. It must be a problem if they are breaking ranks.

I get why some are upset by Trump's comments. But every POTUS makes missteps during their terms, it comes with being human.

You are dismissing this as a "misstep", as though it's just a one off, instead of another segment of a regular sequence of events. Trump's comments today were very consistent with his past rhetoric on Putin and Russia.

He ignored several high people on those reports. He was fed what he wanted to hear and ignored those who disagreed.

Really?

Your answer to this is that Trump and Putin are right, and our intelligence agencies are wrong?

Not saying they're wrong, but they certainly aren't infallible. If you're going to make the accusation, you need to back it up with proof. Since Mueller is apparently the one holding the cards, he needs to pony up the evidence if the left wants Trump to challenge Putin on veracity. Even then, I'm not sure making this a public spectacle is what's best for diplomacy.

I think you're ignorant on how diplomacy works, and that what you want Trump to do will lead us back to the Cold War. Is that what you want? Do we really need to return to the years of going head to head, each side trying to outdo the other in an arms race while living under the cloud of possible nuclear war? It seems to be what you're advocating for.

Of course this tweet isn’t good enough..

As I said today and many times before, “I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people.” However, I also recognize that in order to build a brighter future, we cannot exclusively focus on the past – as the world’s two largest nuclear powers, we must get along! - Trump

The U.S. would lose this one. We lost the trade war so we would lose the cold war. Our economy isn't up for it.
