Josh Dobbs (merged)

Don't count Dobbs out. He has learned a lot about the Steelers system since last Spring. Also don't be surprised if he gets a look at Slot Receiver. Everyone knows that kid can run and is uber dangerous in the open field.

LOL. Yeah they will probably bench JuJu. When Rudolph was drafted, that was all she wrote.

Titans should pick him up for nothing. He could plug in easily for an injured mariota because similar playing styles.

While a position change is possible, it's highly unlikely to happen with Pittsburgh. Smith Schuster is not going anywhere and the Steelers already have one QB to WR project in Justin Thomas and another possibility on the practice squad in Marcus Tucker.

He’s always been a great athlete having to play QB.

We’re all very aware he’s shifty and dangerous in the open field.

Idiocy by someone else or on a message board has no effect and should not for rooting for a VFL.

Idiocy by the player/VFL (see drunk driving manslaughter etc) may or should.

If a message board fanboy makes you root against a genuine and good person like Dobbs, you need to get off the message board

My post wasn’t meant to be taken literally. Stop hyperventilating

This is one time I wish that D4H was right. Want him to make it somewhere because he is a VFL.

I agree.

Although, I'm pretty sure that if there was a kitten stuck in a tree, D4H could troll people into pulling against the cat.

If Rudolph does well and Dobbs improves from last season, I would say Landry Jones would be the odd man out. Of the three, he has probably reached his plateau.

Writer is speculating, he really doesn't have any data or stats to back up his position except Summer Camp last season.

And what are you and everybody else on here doing...?

If D4H can put us against the pu--ycat, then maybe we should re-evaluate our priorities....

I’ll take him over Jamis in Tampa, come on down Dobbs! Oh and if this is taken as I’m not upset enough over him being possibly cut, well too bad. It’s the truth, I would rather have him over Winston

So would I. I'd like to see what Dirk Koetter could do with Dobbs.

Dobbs has bigger and better things to look forward to. He's gonna be the leader of Trump's Space Force.

Being a Steelers fan and taking my Vols bias out of it I think it is a bad decision to get rid of Dobbs instead of Landry Jones. Steelers are in a salary cap crunch and they need to work out a deal to get Bell locked up long term. Jones is making 1.9 million this season compared to Dobbs 555,000. Jones is by no means ever going to be the solution long term in Pittsburgh. Dump the more expensive contract now, keep Ben healthy if possible and worse case scenario if you have to use Dobbs or Rudolph you can win a few or you end up getting a higher draft pick than you have had in the past decade or longer.

The only way I see them dropping Jones is if they feel like Mason Rudolph could step in for Rothlisberger for at least 1-2 games in the 2018 season.

If not, then there's no way the keep Dobbs over Jones unless he surpasses Jones in camp and/or pre-season, regardless of what they'd save on salary.

With both contracts on the books, the Steelers are almost $6 million below the cap. While you are correct that the team needs to get Bell locked up long term, Jones only has one year left on his deal, so his cap hit is irrelevant to any negotiations with Bell.

Any comparison between Jones and Dobbs is not about long-term possibilities. With Rudolph in house, neither player is a long-term concern. Dobbs and Jones are competing for a 2018 roster spot, and that's it.

Its a shame that people are acting like you all are and not upset about this. Would you all have acted like this if Peyton was on the chopping block? No, everyone here would have been very upset. The only difference was during Peytons years we had a lot more success. We could have had that when Dobbs was here if it wasnt for the horrible coaching calls and negligence of Butch. Dobbs carried this offense through all of that and made the most of it by keeping us in games we shouldn't have been in because of idiotic play calling amongst other things. He gave his all for this university and him and the other players that got cheated out of
championships and the opportunity to play professionally should be defended by us.

Easy Alice. A better example would be Tee Martin or Heath Shuler than Peyton. Peyton always had the tools and proved it in the League over 18 seasons. Dobbs still hasn't proven himself to be a reliable and accurate passer. They were all great ambassadors for UT, but pro ball evaluations are what they are. Josh has an awesome backup plan if NFL qb doesn't work out for him. Go Vols!

Who has said Josh is on the chopping block except for this one writer?

If Roethlisberger is out for a game, then the Steelers need someone who knows the personnel and system that will rely on playmakers like Brown and Bell (presumably). Jones fits that role right now and has demonstrated he can win games when called on.

Cutting Jones regardless of how well Rudolph plays in camp and exhibition games is a big risk because preseason isn't the best predictor of regular season performance. Any potential upside of letting Jones go to keep Dobbs doesn't balance out on the risk of going into the regular season with only one QB who has ever taken a snap in the regular season.
