Josh Dobbs (merged)

Don't count Dobbs out. He has learned a lot about the Steelers system since last Spring. Also don't be surprised if he gets a look at Slot Receiver. Everyone knows that kid can run and is uber dangerous in the open field.

If Rudolph does well and Dobbs improves from last season, I would say Landry Jones would be the odd man out. Of the three, he has probably reached his plateau.

Writer is speculating, he really doesn't have any data or stats to back up his position except Summer Camp last season.

I hope he lands somewhere with playing time. He’s one of the few bright spots on and off the field for us in the last decade.

While a position change is possible, it's highly unlikely to happen with Pittsburgh. Smith Schuster is not going anywhere and the Steelers already have one QB to WR project in Justin Thomas and another possibility on the practice squad in Marcus Tucker.

He is an awesome ambassador for the university. I would like to see him become more visible as an engineer and start a program to get more kids interested in great and high paying careers in math and science.

Its a shame that people are acting like you all are and not upset about this. Would you all have acted like this if Peyton was on the chopping block? No, everyone here would have been very upset. The only difference was during Peytons years we had a lot more success. We could have had that when Dobbs was here if it wasnt for the horrible coaching calls and negligence of Butch. Dobbs carried this offense through all of that and made the most of it by keeping us in games we shouldn't have been in because of idiotic play calling amongst other things. He gave his all for this university and him and the other players that got cheated out of
championships and the opportunity to play professionally should be defended by us.

I’ll take him over Jamis in Tampa, come on down Dobbs! Oh and if this is taken as I’m not upset enough over him being possibly cut, well too bad. It’s the truth, I would rather have him over Winston

Dobbs is a great guy. His scrambling ability made Butch's poor offensive scheme seem serviceable. Maybe with a top-notch QB coach all 4 years, he could have been a solid backup NFL QB.

But you are deluding yourself if you believe that Dobbs showed NFL-caliber throwing skills while at UT; the chances of him ever being a starting QB in the NFL were always slim at best.

He's a good guy, and I'm happy that he at least got a chance, and if some other team picks him up as a project-QB, then hopefully he can make the most of it and improve enough to stay in the NFL.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Dobbs makes a ton of money as a rocket scientist and parlays that into becoming Lex Luther, buying the Steelers and moving them to Cape Canaveral. I still can’t believe he was here for four years without any QB coaching.

I hope he gets picked up somewhere if true. I'm a Dobbs fan, I'd watch more nfl if he played.

Everybody here would be bummed as hell about this if it weren't D4H being so obnoxious about how much of a genius he is and his absurd predictions of Dobbs becoming the best QB in NFL history.

Not sure why some are gloating. Dobbs is a helluva ambassador for UT. If you're happy he may be cut so you can laugh at a poster on this site then, well, that's pretty sad.

But that’s the effect of D4H......he’s so over the top that he makes you root against VFLs

This. It's not that people are hoping Dobbs fails. Most knew Dobbs was a longshot for the NFL going in. And that's not a sleight on Dobbs. Has nothing to do with his character. No different than when people said Tebow wouldn't translate to the NFL. But D4H made obnoxious proclamations about his ability to evaluate players and droned on about how Dobbs was a future HoFer, perennial Pro-Bowler QB. I loved Dobbs as a Vol, but he never flashed as a QB that would excel in the NFL. I never wished him failure, I just commented on what I saw. There's a difference between being negative and being realistic.

Agreed. I mean its one thing to say Dobbs will have a good career in the NFL. But its a whole other animal to say he will go down as the GOAT.

I hope Dobbs has a good career.

I'm not sure there's this world's of difference between a 3rd & 4th round QB. However Dobbs does need to be concerned after a year on the roster management goes out in the 3rd round and picks up a QB. Most NFL teams select the best player on the board and that could have been the case here. Time will tell.

That last sentence. Transfer that to the 2018 record prediction threads. Realistically I see another 4-8 with a one-game swing in either direction possible. No credit unless I'm exactly right.
