The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Like everything else, folks either love something or they hate it. I shot a friends Wilson combat modified 92 centurion and it sold me in a big way. 6lb double action trigger that doesn’t have light primer strikes and a single action that breaks at 3.5 lbs. What’s not to like. I figure the Langdon is a slightly cheaper alternative and it has a coated barrel and other desirable features of a range gun. I always kinda liked the 92, especially the vertec, so here’s a chance to get one all tricked out for not a lot of money.

You know I'm just giving you crap, right?

Horse traded with some buddies recently and ended up with a new Rock Island 1911 in the box. Put a couple of hundred rounds through it out on the farm this past weekend. Handled well for a bone stock 1911.

I tossed it in the truck and ended up dispatching a good size timber rattler with it yesterday while clearing some brush around one of the blackberry patches. I usually have a 22lr Ruger Bearcat on me when on the tractor, but had it laid up for a good cleaning. Never had a Rock Island, but it looks like a good one to keep in the farm truck.

Be Safe,

Totally fine with that. Beauty is in the eye, and all that. The 92 is probably like most other guns...do it right; put the right ammo in it; and it's a fine gun. Being saddled with the 115 gr NATO round obviously tilted my view.

First handgun I bought was a Vertec 96. Traded it for an M1A1 carbine a couple years later. Worked out for me in the end value wise, but I think there’s some collectibility of Vertecs now. They were still making one of the firearms involved at the time I traded.

GV, thought I'd pass along a couple of items that might interest you:

- Default load for my scoped AR is the IMI 69gr HPBT (SMK). The 1/9 shoots it well, and I am really starting to like IMI ammo. Got it at SGAmmo. I'm zeroed at 100, but based on those groups, this will be a very accurate 300 yard load.

- Both AR's now have SSA's, which makes a huge difference.

- Had the opportunity to work with a team from the USMS SOG this past week. Very impressed by those guys. Humble, motivated, funny, and absolute professionals. Good at what they do, too. Whoever is recruiting and training those folks is doing it right.

- Football season just around the corner. 'Bout time. Hope all is well out in Tornado Alley.

Semper Onusta.

Accuracy gets even better when you knock that FSB off.

Just sayin :)

I haven't heard of anyone having a bad time with IMI ammo. Or most Israeli products save the stumbled start to the Elander mags they tried some years ago. I think Meprolight is the most underrated pistol sight on the market.

I decided against the Langdon 92. I went with the Wilson Combat Beretta Centurion instead. 3 weeks out.

Sweet that you get one with TN on the slide. I thought Centurions were "hammerless"? I had a 96G that was DAO.

Yep. As far as I know, most are made in the Tennessee facility now. Centurions are just shorter slides and barrels. The G decock only modification is what sold it for me. That and the trigger job.

Ok guys. After several months dealing with this ffl, I was able to pickup my Aero Precision M5 lower and upper. They are stripped so I'll have to build them out. Any suggestions on a lower parts kit? I've built several AR15s in various calibers but never a 308. Unlike the AR15, I understand there are some subtle differences in different manufacturers.

Ideas?

Honestly, wouldn't hurt to go with the same manufacturer for the LPK as you have for the lower. And would be a good idea in case it doesn't work and you say "your lower, your parts kit, it sucks, fix it." But overall, a pack of springs and pins isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things regardless of what some tell you. The only mod I see some folks do is an ambi safety which would have to be added on most of the time anyway.

As for triggers, the world's your oyster since most AR15 FCG can be set in an AR10 with little problems. I have heard of some issues with hard primers and light hammer strikes, but a reputable manufacturer tends to overcome that problem. (looking at Geissele when I say that)

You looking at a fixed stock or collapsible? I'd suggest the Vltor A5 or BCM Intermediate buffer system with either personally. And check on these:

Heavy Buffers | Products | .308 Carbine

Especially if you're looking at suppressed applications. Otherwise, go for the gold and slap on a UBR on that puppy. It's life changing, though a tad heavy.

Also, gentle reminder to get a vice block set for the AR10 system if you haven't yet.

Thanks, GV. My plan is to build it out as a regular carbine. Will go collapsable on the stock. I've found the kit without the grip but I haven't seen one without the FCG. Not a huge deal. Couple of questions:

Are the rails/barrel nut interchangeable with the AR15 rails/barrel nut?
Are the grips for the AR15 and AR10 the same?
Is the buffer tube and stocks the same?

I plan on registering this as a SBR. I'll build it as the carbine and add the SBR upper when the stamp comes. My suppressor will handle the 308 (30 cal can), so I will probably shoot it suppressed.

Thanks for the heads up on the rise block set, I'd completely forgot about them.

As always, thanks for your pointers.

Yeah, don't have an answer on the rail and barrel nut. I'd have to assume some are and some aren't. I'd personally check with the manufacturer to be certain.

As for the grip, it's a yes...

But some will give you a gap that can become annoying. Some actually make a specific grip for the -10 platform. Ergo for example. Magpul as well (I think). Again, check.

Stocks can be interchanged so long as it's a mil spec diameter tube. Or commercial thought doubt you use that size. However, the A5 style is slightly longer so there is a gap when collapsed fully, but it's not really a big deal.

GV, what's your thoughts on the Geisele S3G?

Unrelated, but related. Had to look up the S3G. I have SSA's in both of my AR's. If you really want what the S3G does (rapid reset), then go for it. Note that it's not recommended for duty use, bench shooting, or accuracy.

I love the SSA, in both my duty and long-range AR's. Two-stage. Easy slack take-up, and then I know the next movement is going to go bang. And the reset is pretty quick on those, so...

IMO, you can't go wrong with Geissele. Just make sure you get the trigger for exactly what you want.

Almost football season, so...Go Vols.

I have SSAs in a couple of my ARs. I love them. Just looking to change up a bit. Would like to try something in a single stage. Saw some reviews on that Geissele and thought I might try it. I'm wide open to suggestions.

Sorry, I didn't see this earlier.

3G is Geissele's 3 gun match trigger. Hence, 3G lol. As GW pointed out, not meant for duty and designed for a minimal reset time when tenths and hundredths of seconds count.

Like all Geissele products, it's an outstanding piece of kit. But very narrow in uses.

What would you recommend in a single stage from Gissele?

Just a word of caution: one trigger, one trigger "memory".

Different triggers = different trigger fingers. If you're a competition shooter, then you've already mastered that art. As for me, if I have to shoot, it's because I have to shoot. Best for me if I am conditioned to the trigger.

Then again, I shoot a Glock 22 (duty), Glock 30S, RIA compact .45, and a SA 1911 .45 Range Officer. 4 different triggers (yeah, the 22 and 30S feel different). So maybe I'm full of it.

Get what you want, and have fun with it.

Oh...and Go Vols.
