So, Japan advances in the World Cup over Senegal due to having fewer yellow cards.

Can you imagine if the Patriots advanced to the playoffs over the Dolphins as a result of committing fewer penalties during the year?? As a Dolphin fan, I realize I used a completely improbable hypothetical...

Not a good look for soccer.

They obviously tied when they played. During their head-to-head match-up, Senegal had twice as many shots on goal as Japan. Seems that would have been a much fairer tiebreaker than yellow cards, since fouls can still be arbitrary in nature due to the human (referee) element.

But, hey, I watch soccer about every 4 years so I seriously doubt FISA has me on speed dial to consult with them.

Yeah, the way FICO handles things they may start letting faked dives dictate tiebreakers...

Just curious, what makes one become a Germany fan in international soccer?

I was a huge Bayern Munich fan in the 70's early 80's when I played youth soccer and in high school. Franz Beckenbauer was a beast. I had posters all over my room until I lost interest in soccer and it was replaced by BMX.

“I was the ‘crumber,’ as they call it, where you face the guy that’s gonna jump up, and then you have kind of like the goal-line but in the end zone. I did my job, but Jauan did not do his job. He was supposed to be the ‘crumber’ in the back. Jason Croom was supposed to jump up there and get it, but Jauan being Jauan, he was like, ‘Screw it, I’m just gonna jump up there and get it.’

Josh Smith did an interview talking about how awesome the Hail Mary play was, and it turns out CBJ designed the play to go to Jason Croom, not JJ like they said after the game lol. Rucker said he has heard that multiple times as well.

Croom was so out of position to catch that ball and didn't even jump for it. If JJ hadn't caught it we would have lost.

I don't care how good you are, it's not smart to disobey what a coach tells you to do. Stuff like this is one of the many reasons why Jones is no longer the coach.

Of all the complaints I have about Butch and even the ‘16 season in general, this is not something I’m gonna complain about. Players make instinctive plays. I’ll never fault JJ or Butch for making that play.

Plays like that are made by playmakers. Although Butch was admittedly unable to maintain discipline over the long haul, I think referring to this play as "disobeying" the coaches in this case might not be the right way to describe the play.

Yes, everybody had a role to play, but it's still called a "Hail Mary" for a reason.
