Trump says US will institute tariffs on steel and aluminum imports next week

Good Grief Guys........this is the third time that this story about this nail company has been posted in this thread.....is this all ya got????

Use American steel.....produce a nail that actually has some strength.....people pay a little more.....problem solved.......

People don’t want to pay more. It hurts the Chinese and everyone else.

No one ever WANTS to pay more......my contractors do not WANT to pay more.....it is a cost of doing business......I believe this is short term as countries are coming back to the bargaining table......hang in there Big!!

This is the one aspect of Trump's policy I don't agree with.

To those who have trouble, it raises the price of finished goods because raw materials are being used to manufacture the finished goods. By increasing the price of the raw materials, you increase the overall cost of the finished product.

This isn't rocket science.

I think everyone understands that. Trump is playing the long game here. Retaliatory action for the barriers that other countries have constructed. And even worse in China’s case is their rampant theft of intellectual property.

But I think it goes beyond that for Trump too. China steals our intellectual property, manipulated their currency, and engages in other market disruptions that benefit themselves and so long as nobody confronts them on it, will be poised to assume leadership of the global economy. Europeans don’t care. They’re complacent being in second or third place. But as Americans I think it’s in our best interest to confront them. A trade war we can potentially win. So it’s one option. What do you think should be done, if anything?

Who is arguing FOR them? No one......... They are here, lets find a way to deal with them.

A lot of small/mid size companies are going to struggle big time now. The auto industry is already competitive enough and this will just make your huge corporations get further ahead aka they control cost. Enjoy.

I acknowledge that......like I said, hopefully this will end quickly......good luck!!

I can tell you’re about 65 and so out of touch.

Not that old........I will take my "out of touch" all the way to a VERY comfortable retirement in ten years.......like I said......Good Luck with finding a way to keep your business going through this......

I’ll be fine regardless. Still young and marketable. It’s more about our customers who compete with the huge companies like FRAM. They’re getting screwed.

What’s your sale model that you follow. SPIN, challenger, etc. I’m a jeb Blount guy

I deal in relationship building and long range sales......it takes 18 to 24 months for the projects that I sell to come to fruition.....I am never in a "one call close" situation.....we solve problems and give the customers the best available products that fit their budget for a project.....

Oh, I am almost never the low price on any bid.....but my GCs know they can count on us to be there when we say we will and they do not have to worry about the quality of our product or install.....they are willing to pay a premium to not have the headache of dealing with subs that they have to "babysit".....

Anybody notice that none of the smart Republicans on VN are in this thread arguing for tariffs.

I’m a right leaning former Democrat independent.

And I still don’t know what I think about the tariffs.
Again.....not a Republican but I can pretend and argue for them regardless of what I actually think if it will help you get through the day.

I’m not the most expensive guy around but am at the higher end and I’m always having to turn away work.
People will pay for quality
