When it comes to talent evaluation, this is in this coaching staffs wheelhouse. This particular group were picked and placed together specifically for their ability to evaluate talent.

I bet this kid can play ... I didn’t say Leonard little , I just said there is a good chance this can play

I watched the HUDL video on this guy. Very good get. Superman dove and blocked a punt, several ankle tackles on the quarterbacks. They said if he gets his hands on you, it's over. Based on what I saw in that video, I'd say that's true. Diamond in the rough material.

Actually his high school coach said MSU clearly told them they would not take him because he’s too small. Maybe they needed him to play with hands on the ground in a 4-3 system. I don’t know that but based on what he said that would explain it. With his speed and a 6-3 frame if he adds 30-35 lbs I think he’ll be proto-typical for OLB in the 3-4 system. And he’s aggressive which is the difference between men and boys. Let’s keep an eye on this one.

I like him and it's great to have him with that size and speed. However it's easy to be aggressive when you're bigger and better than a bunch of other high school kids. Arriving at college as a freshman and playing against a bunch of guys bigger and perhaps better than you AND maintaining that aggression makes you Derek Barnett. Welcome to Rocky Top young man, do us all proud!

Magnolia state continues to shine at prestigious football combines

Starkville head coach, Chris Jones, was not shy in naming Jalil Clemons his best defensive player. Don't forget LSU LB commit Zach Edwards also plays for the Yellow Jackets. Well, wouldn't you know it, Jalil had the best SPARK rating out of any of the Mississippians at the event and out of any defensive lineman at the event with a score of 103.14. How he didn't get invited to The Opening with the best showing out of all of the defensive lineman at the event in beyond me?

Clemons checked in at 6-foot-2 1/2, 238. That is a little lighter than we anticipated, but it was good to know that he's a legit 6-foot-2 1/2. But when you look deeper into his numbers you can see why coach Jones is so high on the young man. He ran a really nice 40 time of 4.89 with a 4.5 short shuttle. That is why he is so good inside and out for Starkville's defensive line. The guy has quick short burst and can get in and out of his cuts to make tackles and avoid the offensive linemen. Jalil jumped 32" on his vertical.

Don't be shocked if you start to see Clemons rise up the rankings and recruiting wish list. Ole Miss and Texas A&M are showing him the most interest right now out of the Power 5 schools.

I like this pickup, he is going to move up the recruiting boards and I agree with previous posters, he is relentless and many teams will try to get in on him late. I think he is a diamond in the rough.

Posted this in the RF but copying and pasting here because it took me like 5x as long as it should have to write since my kids kept interrupting me.

This will sound like I'm slighting some guys in last years class, but its the only way to make the point I'm trying to make. There's a difference between taking a commitment from an low ranked/limited offer guy (Tillman and Garland come to mind) on NSD. While I'm obviously rooting for them and hope they ball out, I think we all can acknowledge that they're a part of last years class because we missed on a lot of players the staff liked more. We as fans generally will still try to take the glass half full approach and try and spin it to where the guy is an undiscovered gem. Afterall, they wear that orange, they're family.

When the staff accepts an offer from a somewhat low/mid ranked player with limited offers in June before his senior year, when you're still in it for so many more highly ranked players... then ratings be damned.... You have to put a little trust in this coaching staff - the programs they've come from, the talent they're used to being around.

They see Jalil as someone they don't want to risk losing. They see very real potential in him.

So while I had hopes the commit watch was for a guy like Crouch or Bogle or Wright - as it always is whenever we're rumored to have someone ready to announce - I have to be honest.... I really really like this signing. Reading the write ups from the various services, plus watching a number of videos of this guy. He looks like someone who very likely ends up a staple in our defense for 2-4 years.

I was hoping he would be 109% committed.

I guess he has put in a reservation for jersey number 8? Some players seem just a little more obsessed with getting to wear a particular jersey number than they used to be.

When you use the search engine, click the ‘Images’ on the top of the screen for a clean code. I prefer Google because I type something like John Travolta gif, click on ‘Images’ select the one I want and simply click ‘share image’ and then ‘copy’. Paste it between the
(no spaces) and you’re in business. Trial and error...took me a long time. If you’re using Google to navigate VN tho, don’t write your post first while fetching the gif...you lose the text usually.
