i'm going to break my rule and respond to you directly.

I didn't take a jab at dabo, it was a factual observation. Sorry that hurt your little feelings. But guess what, this is a tennessee message board, taking jabs at the competition is allowed and expected. And i know many clemson fans, i have a few in my family. They're not happy with some of these pickups lately.

Dabo, urban, saban and all of your heroes can esad for all i care. And so can you.

👏

He's had the luxury of being the best recruiter in a lesser conference. And only having to get his team to play their best a couple times a year. He'd be average at UT, UF or LSU.

Personally, I hope he goes to Bama when Saban retires. That program will take a step back and those fans will lose it when he goes 9-3 on the regular with an 8-4 sprinkled in. He'll get fired after 5 seasons.

Agree with that for sure.

You know what he’s talking about. Chief takes a dump on any recruit below 4*.

Does he? I really don't know but I'll take your word for it. I don't spend much time reading player threads anymore. I've seen him joke about all the 3's becoming 4's. I've also seen him say he believes in Pruitt.

Needs to drop the haughtiness about Butch. Not doing him any favors.

Anybody saying he's as good as Saban is overrating him. Outside of that, not so much. He should be 2-5 on any list.

I tend to agree. He's not at Saban/Meyer level, but he is top 5. The difference in him and other coaches that have not been coordinators is that he gets out of the way of his top assistants and lets them do their jobs. So that speaks to his hiring acumen and process. Add in the great recruiter aspect and you have a strong HC.

That is his strongest trait. That and he seems like someone his players genuinely like.

I see Dabo as Clemson's Phil Fulmer equivalent. At the top of their games nobody could recruit better or have the players giving their all better. Both hired well and let their hires do the jobs, at least until Phil began losing his focus in the back half of his career. During his strong years Phil was definitely top 5, same as Dabo today.

Self-awareness is such an under-rated attribute of a successful head coach

He is overrated. But he's still very good. He's not on the level of Saban or Urban but many like to say that he is. He's next tier at best. And with his success lately it's odd taking so many 3 stars where their best offer was his own. Not sure how that's a jab TBH.

I agree that he isn't on the level of Saban or Meyer. Those two are on a pedestal by themselves. But Swinney is arguably number 3. Definitely in the top 5. To say he'd be average at LSU, UT, or UF is a complete joke given what he's accomplished at Clemson. Your point of him basically being a product of a weak conference is a joke as well. He's beaten Alabama once already in the title game and probably would have won twice had it not been for an onside kick. I too hope Alabama goes after him though, because if they don't, I'd bet good money they'll be making a run at Pruitt.

What's ironic is he hammers our staff for any recruit that is not a four or five star but he excuses Dabo Swindler when he takes 100 of them.

What's ironic is that I never hammered our staff for taking a 3 star commitment. Fact is I said several different times that I trusted Pruitt and the staff's evaluation skills. What I really said was, that I'll take a wait and see approach with pretty much any 3 star recruit, and I'll get fired up when we land guys like Wright and Crouch. I was pointing out Swanson taking a shot at Clemson for getting so many 3 star recruits, while at the same time he in fact hammers any poster who's a bit hesitant like myself in that situation.

Ok

If Bama makes a run at Cornbread that means he has done a great job at TN. After the hell we have been through the last 10 years most TN fans would take that in a second.

In Phil's hay day I'd say he was arguably a top 3 coach. Bowden, Osborne, Spurrier/Phil. I think the run Clemson has made over the last several years has been very very similar to Tennessee's run in the 90's. Yet we have people making out like their coach is underrated.
