Seems pretty obvious. I honestly couldnt care less about who starts but it doesn't seem the staff is sold on his development thus far. They probably like his talent but worried about his development

Everything we have heard and seen says CJP wants to win now. If the assumptions are true that KC, because of his experience, is more ready for this offense than JG, then I could see KC starting the year but JG taking the job as he gets more experience and improves.

It would be great for the long run if JG could win the job and not turn back but staff doesn't seem sold

I don't think JG has ever made it through a season healthy as the starting QB in HS or at UT. So even if JG wins the starting job, KC will probably end up playing quite a bit also.

I have read it all. A suggestion that 8-4 this year could be a bad thing if the wrong QB plays because it could effect year 2. Holy moly. 8-4 this year would be great, and the recruits would be crawling to Knoxville.

We’re probably not gonna get great QB play this year regardless of who is under center. If we can go 8-4 this year then that’s probably proof that our system isn’t reliant on great QB play (unless it turns out that we have a defense that is borderline dominant and I don’t think anybody is expecting that this year).

This Chryst was terrible at Stanford narrative just isn't right. He didn't set the woods on fire, but he was solid. Especially before the knee injury.
He is very mediocre and has zero upside. Plus we’re getting him post knee injury. JG was mediocre in his first few games but a lot of QBs are. The butch jones effect is real IMO so I think we will see a lot of improvement with him this fall

I really think it's a combination of 3 things.

1. ESPN destroyed him when he pouted on the sidelines against GT.

2. There was lots of Dormady love here until he started sucking really bad

3. We sucked last year and he was part of it, even though I don't think it was really on him at all.

I really want him to win the job. I think we will be a better team if he performs well enough to beat out Chryst.

I absolutely agree, too.

I think there's a redemption thing going on not only with JG and fan support, but likely for the entire team.

Read my post again.

I didn’t say he is a game breaker or even “good” by most people’s QB standard. He is a game manager that makes smart decisions and can hit the deep ball when needed. His numbers and film at Stanford both back this statement. Coaches know that Chryst can supply this for them, JG has not shown the ability to do that.

How many smart decisions has he been demonstrated to make? That is simply your perception of the type of QB he will be. Also, he ain't never seen nothing like the defenses he will face this year. JG has seen them. I am not writing Chryst off, but he is just as big an unknown at this point as JG is.

Zero upside isn’t true. Chryst is a better runner than JG and from the games I’ve seen of his it seems like he’s better at making quick decisions.

That being said his accuracy has been crazy inconsistent and he doesn’t seem to make great decisions in tight games.

The coaches wouldn’t have brought him in if he had no upside.

And for all of you all saying Chryst was a solid game manager before his injury, why did he leave? If he is finally recovered and ready to perform the way he did before, why did he not stick around and win the job at Stanford, who is much more likely to have a good team this year than we are.

And keep in mind they had a walk on taking first team reps this spring because the other QBs are hurt. I will be shocked if he wins the job

JG is a better runner than people give him credit for. He definitely had a couple nice runs against SC and KY that I’m remembering

Probably the slowest dual threat QB I’ve ever seen.
True. It’s strange because in his high school tape he ran past the top competition in NJ with ease. He can consistently pick up yards though. All you need is a guy that can get 5-10 yards here and there. A better offensive scheme will help him too. I think butch had a problem consistently creating space in his offense

Accuracy was not his problem. He was far more accurate than chryst and was throwing downfield more than chryst.

Lol at y’all JG jock sniffers. The guy couldn’t lead us to a TD in the USC game and we had 7 possessions start on their side of the field. No thank you

Yeah he looked like a deer in his hs tape.

Wonder what's up with Clemson's recruiting? They're 3rd overall on Rivals which looks nice on the surface but really they're only that high due to volume at the moment with 18 commitments. 20th in star rating and their last 8 commitments are all 3 stars. With their recent success I'd think Dabo would be landing bigger fish.

Could you imagine the anxiety on this board if our last 8 commitments were 3 stars? Haha
