UT Vols: New redshirt rule plus Rice, UTEP, Charlotte good for Tennessee

This article makes an interesting point: freshmen can now play in the easier chunck of our schedule (UTEP, UNC Charlotte, ETSU) and still qualify for a redshirt season, freeing up the 1's and 2's a bit for the meat of the schedule.

I was under the impression the 4 game limit was for medical RS, but it looks like that's the standard now?

Yep. Sure to keep young players motivated all season. Get some PT late, and in a bowl game, aside from easy non conference games. Nothing but good here

RS rule change is really good for Shrout. He can get experience in four games and still keep his RS. The coaches can see how he manages the game and responds under pressure, so they'll have a better sense of our QB options.

Yeah that is what I have gotten from it (play in up to 4 games and still be able to red-shirt). Allowing kids to play in up to 4 games and still get to red-shirt is a good policy in both mental and physical conditioning of the player. I haven't seen anything yet on how much time they are allotted in each of the 4 games they are allowed to play in while still being able to red-shirt, but that is REALLY going to help Pruitt and UT this year. Get EVERYONE playing time while letting the starters take a breather and keeping them fresh.

I don't think it matters as long as they only participate in 4 games or less.

Coach Yac looking like an excellent hire so far!

My only issue with him is that he often likes or retweets stuff from other schools etc. on Twitter. Other than that, he seems to be a really good hire IMHO.

I find it interesting that everyone wants to talk about the damage done by Dooley and Butch (and there was a lot) but don’t talk about Kiffin. All this started when Kiffin left so suddenly for USC (actually started when Fulmer was fired with no plan) and left a crater when his only signing class turned out to be smoke and mirrors. Dooley was a panic hire (Muschamp’s fault, he must still be laughing) and Butch was a cheep hire. The mistake of Kiffin started the dominos.

All of this started when Mike Hamilton was hired. It ended when Fulmer was hired as AD. Everything else is just symptoms. Not really sure why we're having this discussion. It's like we're so used to having too much negative to discuss in here and there hasn't really been any so we're inventing reasons to depress ourselves. :loco:

Embrace the positive.

I'm perplexed as to why any major AD would ever consider hiring him. Even if you didn't think that whole fiasco was his fault, it still happened under his watch.

The man is an absolute embarrassment to collegiate administrators everywhere (and not just for his work at UT), yet Maryland is going to try and rehabilitate his image or, at worst, give him another shot? Are there no other up and coming candidates they could find to interview? Where is the accountability in that profession?

I would almost bet he has a connection that got him interviewed and possibly even a finalist candidate position as a career rehab favor.

I'm going to flip out if he gets hired as an intern in their AD.

And when I say flip out, I mean it literally.

Why argue about which was worse? They are 1a and 1b on the list of the worst coaches in Tennessee history. Neither did us any favors, they both can suck on a million warheads for all I care.

This. I'd be happy forgetting the last decade of UT Football, especially the last two coaches.

Arguing which is worse is depressing.

I just really hope that Pruitt is THE guy.

We have seen how hard it is to get the right guy. We have had four chances in a lost decade now to get it right. It is a really hard thing to do, which is why I think IF Pruitt is THE guy...we have to do whatever it takes to keep him here.

He wasn’t. He was the best of the three. Mostly because he was brought in to consolidate the two departments and get us back in the black which he did.

Tallest midget.

So...Mike Hamilton, Dave Hart, John Currie, Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley and Butch Jones walk into a bar...
