Dad taught me how to make cornbread when I was old enough to see over the counter. Martha White cornbread and Purity buttermilk. That is all it takes. Mix cornmeal and buttermilk to a consistency that will pour. Line a square, 4” or so deep pan with Crisco, dusted with some cornmeal, preheat oven to 450 degrees pour mix into pan, insert in hot oven, and ready when brown. Every meal with everything. Especially white beans and “wilted lettuce”, onions, radishes, a little hot grease and vinegar. Yum! Goes good with stew too. Had some with my ribs, corn on the cob, baked beans and taters tonight. Kinda like sweet tea or breakfast with grits and country ham for us Tennessee men.

Add a couple of eggs, some bacon grease and cook in a cast iron skillet. The skillet that is only used for cornbread. Nothing else.

No sugar. If I wanted a cake, I would make a **** cake.

I don't remember who on the team said it, but; a player said, "when getting hit by Travis it was painful because he was as hard as a block of gov't cheese". Asked later about the comment, Travis said it was due eating a lot of cornbread growing up. That's the way I remember it, and I'm sticking to it. :)
(edit)Wiki say's it was S&C coach that said he was hard as cheese.

With lots of butter and some white beans. Where are you from?

Knoxville. Cedar Avenue in the Lincoln Park/Oakwood neighborhood is where I spent most of my childhood. My room's windows faced south Knoxville. The windows were setup so I could go onto the roof and climb down to the deck to sneak out as a teen. I used to move my TV out there on game days. When we scored i could see the fireworks over Neyland. They always came about 45 seconds before the TV showed the score. I remember a few game winning scores where I would be watching to see if we pulled out a win and the fireworks would give it away before the score happened on TV. Good times without cornbread.

Hey, you're entitled to your wrong opinion :D.

At least now I know that when we get our first loss this year, I can easily unit the fan base with two words. Cornbread sucks.

Like Batman in The Dark Knight, I can take the heat for the better good of humanity :D

With all due respect to CPJ and my southern community, cornbread sucks. I don't see how anyone eats it and actually likes it.
