Agree. We have enough athletes to go around. No doubt about. We just don’t have the right plan in place for soccer. I went to real Madrid’s complex in Spain as well as Tottenham FC a few years back and they literally have 5 Star dorms for 5 year old kids that will live there, go to school, and train until They become pros.

The commitment level for soccer elsewhere is just on a totally different level.

Yep. It’s about commitment and training these kids from when they can barely walk. Other countries live for it, we just don’t.

Kids in Argentina want to grow up and be Messi, kids in Portugal want to be Ronaldo, kids here want to be Brady or LeBron or Harper. Not a bad thing necessarily, just the state of sports in the US.

I don't like golf, period.

Spending all weekend inside when it's nice out to watch golf seems silly to me.

It is not for everybody. I usually never watch a whole day either, but it is no more silly to me than watching 2-3 football games on Saturday and Sunday. I only really watch a few tournaments a year anyway, surely not every weekend.

its insane. They have created a factory-like process unlike anything we have here in the US for ANY SPORT. Churn out elite players at an unprecedented level.

It makes AAU basketball, travel baseball, NCAA football (even SEC facilities, training staff, etc), look unorganized in comparison.

Have you ever watched a PGA tournament in person? We used to go watch the Tampa tournament at the Copperhead course...It is mind blowing to watch the way those guys move a golf ball.

Yes, I've seen a number of live golf tournaments, including 3 Masters, a U S Open and a PGA Championship.
Interestingly, of those 5 majors I was fortunate enough to see, Nicklaus won 3 of them. Yet I also got to see Palmer win a tournament and Norman to win a couple.

But to your point, those guys are unbelievably talented. And there aren't too many sports that carry as much pressure from one play (shot) to the next. They don't have a teammate to bail them out, either.

No..just doing that. Hand eye coordination is an athletic skill also imo. Getting a inch and halfish sized ball into a four inch cup sometimes up to 1800 feet away in 4-5 shots, in over and around numerous hazards...is amazing skill.

I really don’t hate golf and I’ll probably watch most of the US Open this week actually. Watched all of the Masters too.

It was just humerous to see how much you hate soccer but try to talk up the Phoenix open like it’s the pinnacle of athleticism and skill haha

Soccer.. “guys jogging around in a circle playing keep away”

Golf.. “the mind blowing hand eye coordination to get a 1” ball in a 4” cup 1/2 a mile away as you hit up, over, and around treacherous obstacles that could be do or die on any shot”

Also just for the record, there’s not a sport that I won’t sit down and watch for a few minutes.

I seriously love all sports, especially ones being played at the highest level

I know. It really is the beautiful game, especially when you consider the beauty of the setting on those spectacular courses. I am jealous, the only tournament I have ever watched live is the Tampa one. I would love to go to Pebble some day or Hilton Head. I don't even think of going to The Masters..that is an impossibility. 😁

It's also more corrupt than all three combined

How is what I said about Soccer wrong? It is a bunch of talented quick guys running around in the center of a massive field playing keep away with the ball for vaaaassssttt stretches of the game. If there was more attacking the net all the time I wouldn't mind it so bad.

Ps..It would be fun to watch if players could wipe each other out like in Hockey..that I would love watching..it is why I like watching Rugby even though I dont understand it.

I just went to Hawaii a month or so ago, have seen much of the west coast including Oregon and Washington state, been to the Tetons and the Rockies. But none of them were any more beautiful than Augusta National.

First time I went and stood about 100 yards down the 10th fairway, I honestly felt like I was in the middle of a painting.

Someday I would like to go at least see the pre tournament events just to walk the course. It is so beautiful on TV, I can only imagine what it's like in person.

I have to disagree with you on one thing though...The Tetons and their little string of Emerald lakes are the most beautiful place on Earth to me, just a little bit of Heaven 😎 I want my ashes spread there..lol.

Gotta go with 5Fingers wife here. “Dad bod” is in right now. I saw a chicks post on Instagram saying a dude with a Dad bod is always down for a burger, his softer to lay on, and typically has a better sense of humor. Dad bod for lyfe

Dad bod is definitely “in” right now. I wasn’t disagreeing with that, I was providing the reason.

I’m not a soccer fan outside the World Cup. I can watch World Cup games most the day when they’re on

Here's a crazy factoid for you guys...outside of Russia, there have been more tickets sold in the USA than any other country.

Almost unbelievable since the USMNT didn't qualify.

Can y'all send up a flare or something when the soccer/golf discussion is over? TIA.

LOL...I hear you. But Augusta National for that one week is on the same page of the hymnal...

Not a problem.

Here's one for you...would LeBron be better at golf or soccer?

Lol.

Fair. Although if you can't handle a discussion on not liking golf, maybe don't make so many shots at soccer?

I can handle it, I haven't gotten mad at what you said. I have said I hated soccer, I am not griping about people talking about it though. Just like you are doing though, if people are going to talk about soccer, then I'm going to talk about why I hate it.

If I sounded mad, I sure didn't mean for it to sound that way...I do hate soccer though...carry on with the discussion it doesn't bother me.
