i had an issue with a guy that didn't know me or what my faith is/was telling me i was going to hell because i didn't go to his church.
that's just dumb. and to the point of what role religion plays in forming those types of opinions for people, is totally relevant to the points Newt and i have agreed with.
i don't have an issue with anyone, including Christ. i just don't think you have to declare yourself to a particular religion to have a relationship with him. nor do i think it's fundamentally christian for religions of any faith to practice exclusion as a basis of that faith.
Ive met many atheists and Muslims. I went into a mosque and had a dialogue with many of them. Nobody tried to kill me and I certainly did not try to kill them.
Using sweeping generalizations like this is unfair and not true.
As long as there is sin, there will never be peace. You could vanquish religion from the earth and not only would there not be peace. The world would be far worse.
Are we not having a discussion with respect? I will not apologize for hoping that your soul is saved.
Yeah Muslims have never killed Christians and vice versa. Saying you went to a mosque and survived does not make it the status quo, have you ever watched the news or read a history book? People are killed because of their religion.
When I was five I was at a friends birthday party and his dad told me I was going to hell because I didn't go to the same church (denomination) as him. I don't remember what he was. I was 5 years old and a grown man told me I was going to hell. And it happened many times after that. Never sat well with me.

Ugh! I wasnt going to get involved this time around with this discussion until this last comment. I am a member of the Church of Christ. I am going to try and stay out of this discussion as much as possible, because many here already know my viewpoints and beliefs, since we have had this discussion numerous times. The one thing I will comment on is the necessity for baptism to be saved. Mark 16:16 is crystal clear; Acts 2:38 is crystal clear; Romans 6, the numerous conversions to Christianity in the New Testament using baptism (Saul/Paul, Ethiopian eunuch, Cornelius to name a few) are all crystal clear that baptism is a necessary part to obtain salvation. However, thats not the only thing...confession and repentance of your sins(which means there are many things in your walk of life that you have to completely change and turn away from, in order to truly repent); remaining faithful until death, living a life that reflects Christ (after all, Christian means Christ-like). I hope this helps with any misunderstanding you may have of the necessity of baptism.
Lol at people from the bible belt think they are right and everybody else is wrong.
Heaven is going to be a bunch of bubbas.
Im saying our religious reality has people believing their truth is the only truth, hence no regard for their fellow man who does not share their beliefs, leading to war and death of innocents.
i think i've explained my point. To say it is a particular church is dumb. But to Christ? No. Christ was exclusive. How can I be anymore Christian than by imitating Christ?
Actually the Christian faith is growing in China and Africa faster than any place in the world. Heaven will be filled with people from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation!
And it originated in Palestine so... 🤔
Im sorry that happened to you at 5 years old. I would hope that this awful experience would not deter you from seeking the truth.
