Ive met many atheists and Muslims. I went into a mosque and had a dialogue with many of them. Nobody tried to kill me and I certainly did not try to kill them.

Using sweeping generalizations like this is unfair and not true.

that's just dumb. and to the point of what role religion plays in forming those types of opinions for people, is totally relevant to the points Newt and i have agreed with.

i don't have an issue with anyone, including Christ. i just don't think you have to declare yourself to a particular religion to have a relationship with him. nor do i think it's fundamentally christian for religions of any faith to practice exclusion as a basis of that faith.

When I was five I was at a friends birthday party and his dad told me I was going to hell because I didn't go to the same church (denomination) as him. I don't remember what he was. I was 5 years old and a grown man told me I was going to hell. And it happened many times after that. Never sat well with me.

As long as there is sin, there will never be peace. You could vanquish religion from the earth and not only would there not be peace. The world would be far worse.

Are we not having a discussion with respect? I will not apologize for hoping that your soul is saved.

Yeah Muslims have never killed Christians and vice versa. Saying you went to a mosque and survived does not make it the status quo, have you ever watched the news or read a history book? People are killed because of their religion.

Yes, and using extremists of either Muslims or Christians as a description of all of them is not being truthful

I’m sorry that happened to you at 5 years old. I would hope that this awful experience would not deter you from seeking the truth.

Actually the Christian faith is growing in China and Africa faster than any place in the world. Heaven will be filled with people from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation!

And it originated in Palestine so... 🤔

i think i've explained my point.

there's a difference between religion and faith, a point newt brought up, and that i agree with, and i gave you a life experience example of why.

i question some of the things in my own christian faith, as it pertains to their priority for the church vs. faith building for parrishners.

to me, i think that requires a lot more faith, than blindly trusting that man over the course of hundreds of years, got it all right, and is spreading the good word, as originally intended. man corrupts everything, including religion. doesn't mean you or anyone else can't get what you need, or what Christ wants you to get out of it. plenty do.

i just don't believe that with literally hundreds and hundreds of denominations and religions in the world, that any one, or select group of, religions has it right, and all the others are wrong and damned to hell.

i'm catholic, literally the original christian religion, and i had another christian tell me i was going to hell because i hadn't been saved in his church. i was baptised and confirmed in my church, so that doesn't count now? who made that rule? oh yeah, a man.

and no where in there is anything about Christ being the way. it was "my way". and that's what i get more times than not when religion is a topic.

Yep, the Methodist Church is growing more rapidly in Africa. Because of the different cultures and laws, it's causing some ideological issues in the church.

It deterred me from being a part of a religion but not from doing my own investigation. It did not deter me from trying to be a good person. I grew up around people of many different religions and have tried to see things from the perspectives of each. I have my beliefs and I am very comfortable with any consequences I will face from any of my actions or beliefs. Also, has never deterred me from having polite religious debate at a bar. Which is usually a bad idea. haha. I think you and everyone else is doing a very good job at keeping this a civil discussion which is very admirable.
