Thoughts on Tracy Rocker?

There are a LOT of factors that go into the making or breaking of a position coach. Too many times people look at some production # like sacks or defensive ranking, then point to the coach with a thumbs up or down. Did you take into account how DL recruiting went for the 3 seasons previous? How about how many players left early the year before? How about how the teams offense either got the D on or off the field? How about the scheme and coordinator goals? The list can go on and on.

To boil it down to the coach is wildly speculative using such limited factors.

Head coaching changes brings a change in supporting casts. I regarded coach Gillespie as one of the best rb coaches in the country, now he's gone like the rest. In no way should it reflect on his worth as a developer of rb talents. It's more like chemistry.

*THIS POST IS NOT INTENDED TO BASH HIM OR BE NEGATIVE, STRICTLY JUST WANT OPINIONS*

Just wanted to see what every one thinks of the new DL Coach for UT.

Apparently the players that play for him love him. That being said, I’m curious of the job he will do here, because of his lack of production at UGA which led him to get fired before the 2017-18 Season.

He seems to be a great recruiter and player coach, but when it comes to results, he has lacked.

Thoughts?

Just wanted to see everyone's thoughts on NoogaVol423 as a poster. Been a member 3 years and post count is sub-par. I think we could improve our fan base if we got rid of him.

I'M NOT TRYING TO BASH HIM THOUGH.

Sorry for even starting this thread... apparently you can’t be curious of a new coach and the job he will do without offending all these butt hurt snowflake posters on here.

Lmao... y’all are taking this the wrong way. I’m not saying we hired a terrible coach, I am simply asking YOUR opinion of him.

Don't know enough about him, dude, to have an opinion. All I care about is what he does here. Pruitt hired him and that's good enough for me.

Rocker seems to jump around a lot job wise. I don’t think he’s an elite DL coach by any means, but he’s easily the best we’ve had in a long time. Probably since Orgeron or Dan Brooks. Lance Thompson was pretty good too, I guess.

I like that we have Rumph to work with the edge defenders. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rocker thrive working with the interior guys.

I liked Tracy as a player and believe he has produced a very solid body of work as a coach. We're lucky to have him IMO.

I am excited to see his recruiting potential in these next years for sure. He seems to have a great connection with all his players.

Seems like he commands respect. Solid experience as a player and a coach. Pruitt knows him better than we do and I’m sure he wouldn’t have hired him if he wasn’t a good teacher. My opinion is that he’s the best DL coach in the SEC.

I hope you’re right. I’m very excited for the staff Pruitt has put together.

I think it would only be fair to judge him on what he does here, so the jury is still out. I'll take that he has a good rapport with his players as a positive.

He seems to command respect from his players.

The players seem to like him and want to do well playing for him.

He seems to be a very good recruiter.

My analysis...If he's just a good coach but a very good recruiter then we'll get better simply by the better players he'll recruit.

Top recruiters always build much better teams.

It just takes a few years to recruit better players and then coach them up into much better players on the field.

VFL...GBO!!!

For the most part I like rocker, the technique, philosophy and energy he brings is SEC caliber to get you to wining stage but personally for me my favorite is coach Rumph, his energy reminds me of a trooper Taylor like energy, that’s the type of energy that kept me into the game and the hope of a huge comeback, players feed off of that stuff , we’ve needed for a long time.

I think it’s tough to be a fair evaluator of position coaches, even if you have a fair sample size(which we don’t)because in most cases the coach is operating within the confines of his Coordinator and head coach.

Apparently the players that play for him love him. That being said, I’m curious....

He seems to be a great recruiter and player coach, but....

Watch for "apparently" and "seems". They're the equivalent of a magic-trick observer pointing out misdirection. They're saying, "let's not necessarily believe this."

When you get past those warnings, you see underneath, to the real message.

Ah, there we go. The real position of the OP: he got fired before for lack of production; he doesn't deliver results.

But let's put a sugar coating around this message, make it seem more open:

*THIS POST IS NOT INTENDED TO BASH HIM OR BE NEGATIVE, STRICTLY JUST WANT OPINIONS*

...

Thoughts?

There, that ought to fool everyone. Eh?

Later, further exposure of the real message:
Defense was 67th in the nation the last year he was there and got fired?

[turns out not to be true, but still shows Nooga's position]

Hurry, need more sugar coating, people are tasting the bitter behind it:
Lmao... y’all are taking this the wrong way. I’m not saying we hired a terrible coach, I am simply asking YOUR opinion of him.

Note the use of the word "terrible"; Nooga's slip is showing every time he adds words.

And here's the clincher. Watch this: all these posts are in chronological order:

I think he Rocks
I’m really happy he’s here. He’ll land some big time recruits.
...Damn good coach! We’re lucky.
I had the pleasure of seeing him play at The Barn quite a few times. He was a game changer. If he’s half that good of a coach, he will be just fine.
I have no,opinion yet as he has yet to coach a game for us. Using his previous experience is useless imo. I mean Shoop was elite at Vandy and PSU, but was utter garbage here.

I really hope he is a good coach who can develop talent.

thank you! Thank you for being the only one on this thread to post your thoughts on him.

[emphasis added]

And there we have it. Several posts ignored in favor of one that expresses skepticism and a wait-and-see attitude. Clearly, the OP was looking for negative responses; this was as close as they got. Time to declare victory.

So let's fix Nooga's post, make it truthful:
thank you! Thank you for being the only one on this thread to [come anywhere near] post[ing] thoughts on him [that I can construe as doubtful]. [I'm ignoring all the rest.]

Nooga, I don't even think you realize how obvious your angles are to other people. Your own words betray you, and you seem blind to the betrayal. You must become much more proficient at handling language if you want to play the kinds of verbal tricks you tried to play in this thread.

tl;dr: you're obvious, brother.

Now you did it!!! You brought up Trooper Taylor, the hat on backwards, chest bumping high fiving, ultra high energy coach, we can't have that at UT!!! We need Tom Landry in hat and tie, and heaven forbid wouldn't be caught dead wearing something as loud as anythin g orange skulking the sidelines without emotion. Everyone knows football is NOT an emotional game, right???

Granted Trooper's ethics may have been proven to be suspect, but it's the type of high energy guys we can't have on The Hill.

Hey, don't let facts get in the way!

I can’t tell you how many times I had a thought, opinion or perception about something, some topic on VN and started to post.....but decided to check to see if my opinion was factually correct, found out I was wrong and decided to either not weigh in on that topic or wound up posting something different from what I originally thought.

I’m oftentimes a bit shocked that people pretty frequently post something on here that can be proven/verified to be factually and empirically wrong in about 3 seconds.
