Peyton: Tiger, tell me about that night you backed into the fire hydrant while your wife was swinging at your car with your golf clubs?

Tiger: Sure, after you tell me about that day you tea-bagged that trainer.

Peyton: Let's just play golf, alright?

I love Peyton but I'm still mad he lost to Florida 4 times. I know...kind of psycho...but I have an unstable hate for them. Peytons cool though.

Can we please dispel the stupid myth that “Peyton lost to Florida 4 times”?

Helton started and played nearly 3 full quarters in ‘94 when Manning was a freshman....Peyton came in late in the 3rd quarter with Tennessee already losing to a far superior Florida team 24-0. So Helton started and didn’t put a single offensive point up for nearly 3 full quarters, Peyton played a little and Stewart played a little....but you’re saying that Peyton lost that game to Florida? That loss was no more on Manning than it was on you or me.

In 1995, Manning played a nearly flawless game at Florida....300+ yards, 2 td passes, no turnovers, had Tennessee up 30-17 in the 3rd quarter before Jay Graham kept handing the ball over to Florida with multiple fumbles that the Gators turned into points...and before the freaking defense just collapsed while giving up 38 points in about a quarter and a half of play. That loss was essentially every Tennessee player’s loss EXCEPT for Manning’s.

In 1996, yes, that loss was on Manning....4 awful, inexplicable first half interceptions. However, recall that the defense once again no-showed vs Florida in giving up 35 first half points in Neyland. But I’ll give you that one....you can put that loss on Peyton.

In 1997, in Gainesville, typical Tennessee-Florida game....Gators win because they were the better team. Manning threw for 353 yards and 3 td, but he had a pick 6 that contributed to the loss. But ultimately, it was our bad defense that gave up 26 points to a Florida team missing Wuerffel, Ike Hilliard and Reidel Anthony that cost the Vols the win.

So, go ahead and keep pushing the incredibly lazy narrative that Manning lost to Florida 4 times in a manner that suggest it was his fault all 4 times....but it has always been and will always be a myth.

That's why I didn't understand the writer's line of, "Apparently he wants to keep having fun in retirement..."

Maybe I misread his intent. :)

The job is about 20 weekends straight away from home. PM doesn't need the money or exposure right now.

I get that. It's just a pro-am in May has nothing to do with being retired or calling NFL games in the Fall...or doing anything else that he pleases.

We really should have beaten that piece of cake Florida every year from 1994-97. After all, they lost 6 games in those 4 years. They lost to two #14 teams, a #6 team, a #7, a #2, and a #1, the last 2 in bowl games. The #14s were LSU away and traditional rival Georgia at Jacksonville.
We were actually ranked higher than them in 1 of the 4 years going into the game. Should have been 4 easy wins, even though they were ranked #1, #4, #4, and #3 going into our 4 games with them. I don't understand how we could possibly have lost those games.

You're right about those first two games against Florida. His senior year, not so much. He had nice stats but choked during pivotal parts of the game. BTW, Florida didn't have the better team. We had better talent for most of those blowout losses. They had a far superior coach to us. While Fulmer was GOOD, Spurrier was great

WE had more talent. From 1993-2002, we had more players drafted and had more players on active rosters

I hate it that Peyton played in 4 games against Florida and we didn't win any of them.
Having said that, it blows my mind that you can single one player out and say "He didn't beat Florida". Do you realize he was on the sidelines half the time while the defense was on the field. And when he was there, there was 10 other guys losing to Florida too.

Peyton's body of work isn't diminished in my mind just because of these 4 games. He sure has hell had a better NFL career than any Florida quarterback who "beat Peyton" (single-handedly by the way)
