Crazy isn’t it? Recruiting rankings are incredibly subjective. Many of the recruiting experts / gurus who assign these ratings to players and teams have never even put on a jock strap. The determining factor between a 3* player and a 4* player can be .10 of a point. The same applies for team rankings.

I will say that final recruiting rankings, in general, do give a pretty good overview of the best recruiting classes.

True this. If a team is 8 for instance not much difference in them and say no. 2. The challenge is to be top 10 year in and year out.

Not that big of a challenge with the resources UT has.

Tennessee's issue has not been resources its been winning football games. Kids will only believe the "return to glory" story line so long. At some point you have to win and win consistently to recruit at that level.

with a 90 average rating aswell.

Correct. We are low in terms of overall ranking versus the rest of the SEC... but... we have the 4th (I think) average highest recruit ranking. Quality over quantity. Some of the schools ahead of us have 10+ recruits but their classes aren't as good as ours.

Agreed but we were discussing consistent top ten classes correct? Fully aware of the lack of winning. :hi:

I disagree...we've had resources a long time. Several schools have good resources. Resources alone are not enough. But we now have an accomplished coaching staff that can recruit, then train/develop talent and manage/coach games. That & a lot of effort/work puts us and keeps us in the top 10.

My point is they are directly related. You can have resources to the moon and if you don't win kids will go elsewhere.

Exactly! Quality classes (higher ranked players) trumps large classes every day!

Yep. UT has 7; 3 4* and 4 3* and is 16th. Auburn also has 7; 4 4* and 3 3*, but is 22nd. I assume it has to do with the level of 3* and 4* a player is ranked, such as 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, etc.

I thought Wayna was a 5 star. Maybe it is the difference between 4.75 stars and 4.25 stars?

It should mean a lot to a recruit that they can be developed into a much better player as they make the transition from HS to College to Pros.

This was seriously lacking under CBJ.

“Coach Pruitt is going to do all he can to win. He is a hard worker and he is going to push the players on his team to their limits. Off the field, he is a cool guy, but on the field, he really wants to be the best.”

Got to love this quote by Keyton

Spelling and/or pronouncing VOLS incorrectly high octane fuel for my ragemobile.

i've been working in ATL the past month or so, and i stopped in to an office depot to get some supplies one afternoon, and i was wearing my TN vest, and the check out girl was like "go voles!" and started to tell me how much of a fan she was cause her daddy was etc....

and all i could think is that if he let you say VOLS as VOLES, then he didn't raise you right, and i question his loyalty.

i gave her the "ok, riiiight..." and walked out in disgust.

I read the whole thing, but I kept getting stuck on the fact that you were wearing a vest. Why were you wearing a vest?!

Some individual years are different, but for the most part, the team that averages 2 is going to be better than the team averaging 8 all the time.

A good coaching staff and good recruits make a good team. In your scenario, since 2 and 1 are close, then 1 and 8 are close, and that is simply not true.

What is true is that 8 with a good staff can play with a 2 that has an average staff. Maybe that is what you were trying to say?
