Pruitt: "I didn't come here to win 6 games

He said it fine, didn’t say anything wrong by any stretch of the imagination. Everybody knows exactly what he meant. It’s just that some posters on here don’t like him and are looking for ANY reason to bi##h and moan about him....and if he doesn’t given them a reason, they’ll fabricate one, which is what happened here.

Actually KB that's what I mean by some. I understood what he said. I didn't "communicate" well. You said what I was trying to say.

All great programs have ups and downs. UT has had its share in the past (to young to remember 74-84? I still have a bumper sticker that says, "Come back home Bill Battle, we made a Major mistake.")

Hopefully time will tell that this coach was a home run hire! I'm glad he didn't come to UT to win 6 games. Knoxville isn't Lexington.

What you categorize as a “rant” is as much a dissenting opinion as the one you hold sacred...yours. :hi: One way don’t work on here.

I'll stick with calling it a rant based on that last post that I responded to from KB and the amount of effort going into defending Fulmers record against FL. :hi:

No, they don't...but UT fans take pride in beating a McElwain coached team. Take it where you can, right?

(chumming the waters, chumming the waters, chumming the waters)...

Boca buddy, tonight Idegaf. I was glad we beat Florida in 16, did I take pride in it? Yea, I guess I did a little. I apologize. Imma bad fan.

“We play 12 games this fall, and if we play to the best of our ability in all 12, we’ll have a chance to win every one of them.” -CJP

Hints that he doesn't think this team is without talent

Doesn't really match what he's telling recruits. My guess is he's telling recruits and boosters alike what they want to hear, but my guess is he believes they won't be very good in year one.

And so did the fanbase

First bowl game in awhile, decent bowl, great location, it’s understandable that both Lyle and the fans would be excited. The next year when Lyle was doing somersaults for going to the Outback Bowl, the excitement had died down a bit since what looked like a potentially promising season soon turned into a disappointment. And of course, when Jones was doing roundoffs and triple salchows after getting invited to the Music City Bowl....and then practically forcing the players to carry him off the sideline onto the field after they beat Nebraska. Talk about a guy who just didn’t get it here....

Heck yes. I was so glad we beat Fla in '16. Still have the selfie McMom and I took at end of game as my cell phone home screen.

I cried when the clock hit zeros.

Thought this was about more than one post. :hi:

Come on, KB! The '03, & 04 UF teams weren't great.

Now, the '01 UF team was! Had UT not played Miami a UF/ Miami NC game would have been a great one.

That era of Gators teams, collectively from ‘92 to ‘08, predominantly under Spurrier and Meyer, were great, constituted one of the best, winningest programs in the country. That’s all I was saying without pulling out specific teams. Obviously, the Zook teams weren’t great, but they weren’t awful either....6-2 in the SEC in ‘03, tied for SEC East title...4-4 in ‘04. And any of those teams were certainly better than any UF team Jones faced the last 5 years.

Beating up on Ron Zook was a lot of fun.

At the end of the season Pruitt will wish we had 6 wins. I wouldn’t even blame the guy considering how garbage the roster is currently.

I can legit see Pruitt getting mad at the fans if they are remotely happy with a 6 win next season..

At some time during the season we're likely to see if Pruitt can manage a game (something he's never done). Now I pray he's not as bad a Jones but he'd be wise to hold off picking fights Until he can prove he can manage the clock, make sound 4th down decisions and have his offense execute in the 2 minute drill. Knoxville media and fan base will give him a fight if that's what he wants.

I think many were premature when they said Butch gets it. I was never of that opinion. But Coach Pruitt, that man gets it.

I mainly just think it's stupid as hell bringing up Fulmers record or Pruitt's national title rings ad nauseum as if either one of those things will guarantee wins next season.

Doubt Holgorsen and WVU cares one iota about them.

What's getting ridiculous on here is when you and some other serial posters absolutely rant against anyone that doesn't share your over the top enthusiasm for a man that hasn't been a head coach in a game yet.

I brought up the man's record against FL and think there were better choices out there as an AD. I'm not sold on Pruitt until I see the games on the field.

You don't like those opinions and that's fine. Freak put that ignore button on the site for a reason. Or continue pissing and moaning about my opinions. Up to you Chief.

Hey Champ, you were the one that brought up Fulmer’s record vs Florida, not me. I like setting the record straight, especially with some context, rather than just lazily throwing in the uncalled for jab at our former HOF coach. You wanna do it, fine, no worries....but expect someone on a Tennessee fan forum like this one, who doesn’t hate the guy to respond accordingly.

And of course no coach, no team is gonna care whether or Tennessee beat Florida in 2001 or not...and nobody said otherwise, that’s your false flag, Slick.

The original point of discussion, which you jumped on for some odd reason, was Fulmer advising Pruitt of a simple, absolute truth for Tennessee football.....which is Pruitt, or any UT Coach, is (rightly) judged on how they perform vs Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Maybe next time actually pick a legit reason to criticize Fulmer, without the sarcasm and snark, so your point has at least a bare modicum of credibility, Ace.

Glad to hear it! My expectations are 8 regular season wins in year 1. If Pruitt falls short of that, then he has underachieved. Given that it's his first college head coaching job, he shouldn't be fired or anything like that, but that's the standard we should measure him against (in my opinion) when we draw a West opponent like Auburn, until we start out-recruiting Florida again.

I'm appalled that people are already excusing 7 or more regular season losses. Where is the 7th regular season loss for a competent coach? That would have us losing to every opponent with a pulse, + 1. I'm not sold on Pruitt, but I have more faith in him than that.

Come on Jax, you know none of that matters to these guys. It doesn’t matter that Phil won more games (5) versus those great Florida teams than Battle, Majors, Kiffin, Dooley and Jones combined (4). And it certainly doesn’t matter that he was 21-11-1 vs UGA and Bama and won a national championship. He just sucks, he’s fat and his recruiting fell off in the early 2000s and that’s all that matters.

Phil only beat ONE great Gator team and that was in 2001. Florida's 1996 national championship beat our asses in Neyland. In 1995 when Florida played Nebraska for the natty, they beat our asses down there 62-37. We also lost 31-13 at HOME in 2002 and 59-20 in 2007. Our 1997 SEC champion Vols got their asses handed to them by Florida 33-20. Our national championship team beat them in OT by 3 when they missed a chip shot FG.

You've completely embellished Phil's record against Florida. Not surprising. You're about as delusional about him as a coach as he was about himself as a coach.

All the while, we had more talent than Florida most of those years but Phil choked like a cheap chaise lounge, playing not to lose most of those games. We did beat them 24-10 in 2003, which was one of their worst teams in the last 25 years.
