Transfers?

Kira Levy... Tennessee girl a Western Kentucky signee for 2018. Is decomitting from WK after their head coach left. She is going to Missouri.... who beat us last year! Several Tennessee girls going to other SEC schools. Might come back to bite us? Just saying

When it comes to coaching I can see why she chose Missouri. Their coach knows how to get more out of less.

The Lady Vols have signed many top ranked players since Holly took over. The problem is that we haven’t been able to win with them. The fear is that we will eventually get to the point where we don’t sign the top ranked players anymore. Then where will we be. Talent will win the majority of the time. But eventually they have to be coached.

Where will we be, “Sh#t out of luck.”

The recruiting can't be flawed you must recruit players with different strengths not ones with the same abilities. We have recruited great athletes but no great shooters. Every team that is going to be a factor for an NCAA title or Conference title needs three point shooters and mid-range shooter that are consistent and shot a percentage around 40 from the three and over 45 overall.
If we'd had that last season record is a lot better and we definitely advance a lot further.

Dawn Staley at it again: Visit from Grad-Transfer Nelly Perry 5’10” out of Camden NJ. She sat out last year while hurt playing for Clemson as their leading scorer at 12.7 ppg in 2016.

She is no dummy she realizes for her to maintain a grip on the SEC she is going to need help. If Anriel Howard goes there whose minutes does she eat up Herrigan, Williams, and didn’t Grisset play down low in the high low. Yes Anriel outrebounds the but does this stunt their growth when they showed potential fill in for Wilson last year with that experience?
Does this guard take some time from Cliney, Jackson, Cooper or even one of the incoming freshman Destanni Henderson can score and dish the ball.

Am I the only one who is suspicious that she might contacting these players in an illegal kind of way, if you know what i mean? It just seems very strange to me how many potential transfers are immediately interested in usc. What are the rules that apply?

I’m not suspicious. Young female players love Dawn Staley. Even I looked up to her when I was younger. With South Carolina coming off a national championship last year it’s to be expected. Most kids want to play for a winner and reportedly the players love it there. I know a kid who is a freshman who visited on an unofficial and came away smitten. One thing’s for sure...they are doing something right and just because players want to go there doesn’t mean they are necessarily cheating.

Not to mention that the players who transferred in all had circumstances...coaching changes, helicopter parents, program upheavals or disciplinary issues.

Dawn is playing within the rules and any coach can do it. Dawn and the Louisville coach and even Geno are far better at it than our coach. We always seem to be a step behind on finding these players. We really need three point shooters that can always adequately defend on the defensive end. That is one area that has caused us a lot of pain and losses on the last few seasons. Until we get some consistent perimeter shooters zones will always be effective anyone can pack in a zone and take away a post player so you must have someone else who can step up and make them pay.

It's the Brenda Frese/Jeff Waltz way, someone with her program slides them a business card at an event (AAU, college tournament, football game, etc.) letting them know that if they have interest to contact them (Staley, Waltz, Frese, The Florida State Coach).

It happens and I have witnessed it with my own eyes, there is a reason Brenda is losing a staff member at the end of every season

Y'all, Dawn hasn't really had that many transfers. A lot of schools have WAY more than she has, and I can tell you she plays within the rules and the players love her.

Thank you! Since dawn has been at SC she’s only accepted 5 transfers and that’s just about the same amount as Geno.

I don’t think either transfer would hurt or stunt the growth of players. If Howard comes she plays the 4 so she’ll share time with Herbert-Harrigan and frosh Wesolek. Williams will back up Jennings at the 5 along with frosh Saxton and Grissett will move over to the 3 with Cliney, which is her natural position. Harris will be the main point guard with cooper and Henderson combo guards. Jackson and Perry could rotate the 2 position. Although I doubt we get both we would have depth at every position.

Success attracts.........too bad so many of the LV faithful still think that ANY player that does not BEG to play for TN is being paid off to go somewhere else, or another coach HAS to be cheating to get her.....

Y’all are frankly kind of pathetic to hint that Staley might be acting inappropriately. She’s the US national team coach right now, and it seems like those who play for her are really happy, not to mention their program is on the rise and coming off a championship. Those are some reasons why players want to play for her.

We shall see 😁 I am mixed on transfers even if they were coming to UT I would be asking the same thing. We don’t have any post depth so our grad transfer doesn’t take away anything considering our 4 player graduated so we have to slide someone into that role and they will need a back up . If we got a grad transfer guard I wonder how that would affect who we already have (and Incomig freshman) Just a thought...

Both teams will look extremely different next year but I am really intrigued to see how both coaches use their guards.

Russell was a good player but not very athletic or quick. I wonder if they will be more full court press in your face this year? That is if our guards can stay in front of their man.

Thank you mlindsay for responding to my suspicion.

As for my suspicion, it has nothing to do with ANY player that does not BEG to play for TN. Some of these transfers have no interest in us, therefore it's not UT vs usc and usc wins because...

It also has nothing to do with being paid off to go somewhere else. Again, for my part, I gave not even a hint of money, or any other school besides usc.

Yes, i did specifically question if one coach might be making illegal contact, i.e., cheating. And again, I questioned what the rules are, not knowing when a coach is legally allowed to make contact in these situations.

And if the only answer is that she's such a great coach who all the players love, why does she not have the top recruiting class every year, with the top hs recruits waiting in line to go there?

I don't mean to offend anyone, but to think a coach, including Staley, is beyond making inappropriate contact with players is a tad naive. I'm not saying she did, that's why I asked about it. But to say she wouldn't? To imply there's no reason to question it? Yeah right.

I'll admit it may not even be as many as it seems. But it seems like a lot, and visits seem to get arranged very quickly. But hey, recruiting is always on the up and up in college sports.

Count on it.
That's when we played our best ball last year.

We are much better equipped to do so this year.
We lose 6'6" and two 6'2"'s and gain two 6'3"'s and two at 6' ... Our game has to change.
The fortunate thing is this exchange of structures, is to this staff's strength.

My take on the players from the McD game, after watching it once, then watching each player's court time:......

In Zay we get a personality. Athletic, fast, knows how to take advantages of opportunities, Can finish a break, and is a Dennis Rodman on defense (In his, "The Worm" years), but she is not a wall-flower by any stretch. Zay is a stat filler and that can be good,
or that can be not so good..

3-8 0-3 6pts 1reb 2 fouls, 3 asst 3 TO 4 stls
(Love the steals and assists, hate the TO's and wasted 3's)

In Amira I see a Kortney type of player offensively (Throughout her play in the McD game she camped on the baseline stood there waiting on her triple)...On defense, however, she is much better with defensive footwork.

In Jazzmine I see a quiet assassin, an excellent ballhandler, a powerful frame, a penetrater/finisher, and a PG that wants to be a PG...Also a stat filler, but the kind of stat line I want.

2-5 0-1 4pts 2reb 1 asst and 1 blk (no TO's)

Have you ever been to an exposure AAU event?...There are often 100-200 universities represented at these events. You can get get cards from a "Walter state" and a "Florida State", level of college, in the same moment....Not unusual.
