Recruiting Discussion

Arizona State landed a commitment from big man today on his OV

I am sure it happens but to what degree?

Is it a regular occurrence or is it rare?

I am guessing rare and even more so with highly ranked guys

I am also guessing we were assured that these early visitors were inclined to make a reasonably quick decision. It appears Mann is doing that

I’m not suggesting every recruit commits while on his OV, but I’m not sure that we have publicly landed any recruit on his OV or the day or two after...that isn’t common.

I can't think of any kids that have done it that were highly ranked early in the process.

They take their time. I can't even think of highly ranked guys doing it at blue blood schools

Again if only happens on rare occasions and our head coach has said he encourages kids to take more visits to compare them why do we assume these things are "bad"?

Again, I’m not suggesting any school bats 100% or even 50% on that, but you can name a team and I can probably find at least 1 recruit in 3 years to commit on an OV or immediately after. I can’t think of anyone that Tennessee has had do that, that’s all I’m saying. If Tennessee lands Burns and Mann then it’s a moot point, but if both those guys drag out into the fall and use their other OV’s in October there’s gonna be a lot of people asking why we used our OV’s so early.

It's crunch time for the 2018s. Pressure is appropriate. Hell they need to poop or get off the pot.

How many of the 19 class top 100 has committed so far?

I get that, but there were 2018 kids committing last fall as well, he was just an example from today.

15/100 are committed in 2019

That's a good question but 2 follow ups

How long have we been considered his leader? And by whom?

And then the biggest question. How many highly ranked guys commit after only 1 OV?

How many are friends with the assistant coach’s son and have had a relationship with the staff dating back 10 years?

Meh. An advantage sure but not one that means he's always wanted to be a volunteer, bleeds orange, and should shut it down.

Honestly Ziti as much as we both follow football recruiting what kind of recruit commits easily either after their offer or on their visit?

It's almost always a kid that is lower ranked and doesn't have a lot of attention. Gaines fits that mold in hoops.
Very very few highly ranked guys pull the trigger quickly in either sport

My frustration is more about the trend and not really just this one recruit.

You can never get upset about not landing any one recruit cause at the end of the day it’s still a kid making a decision.

But just seems like we struggle to close the deal.

I remember being very negative and pissed that Fulkerson and Williams wouldn't commit and kept taking visits. It was either parker or Johnson that was the only one that committed without visiting anyone else and that was more because they were committed elsewhere beforehand

Daniels visited Mich and Ohio state
Darrington memphis and Toledo
Kent northwestern
Walker georgia and St. John's
Pons Texas tech and florida

They all took more visits

Never was committed to us.

Edit: never mind. He was then wasn’t then almost committed again.

Yes, this. If I'm not mistaken, he and McRae may have originally committed on the same day (they visited together for the Florida football game). They were committed for 9+ months and then Selby decommitted in July of the following year, I believe.

Any war room hoops nuggets?

-Mann to visit UF next weekend, decision could come anytime thereafter but no set date. Connection is from when Lanier was an assistant at Florida, his son played ball with Mann and the two families have been close since, nothing to do with Texas as had been previously mentioned. Tennessee wouldn’t have brought him in this early without having talks about Mann being ready to end his recruitment.

-On Burns, continues to hear Vols are in very good shape and that if he does indeed choose Tennessee it will almost certainly be as a member of the 2018 class, no timetable is known. Ends it by saying the lack of no new names for 2018 popping up could be a sign of what is available, or a sign that the staff feels as though they have Fore and Burns wrapped up for 2018.

Other than the connection to Lanier I am seeing nothing suggesting we are the favorite here. No mention from VQ about us being in a good spot is telling imo
