Mass shooting of the week, high school in parkland, FL.

Based on the kid's account, the school handled it poorly. BUT, we have absolutely ZERO knowledge about the kid's past behaviors and comments to students. If this kid was a model student with no history, then the school over reacted and the individuals involved should be dealt with. If the student has any type of history or past that adds to the equation, then the school and officers may have reacted appropriately.

I believe they also think blaming the LEO's in hindsight for not taking the school shooters guns before he committed the murders is appropriate and flip and argue that they overstepped their bounds in this instance.

A student should not post anything on social media showing him armed and shooting a gun unless he WANTS to be called in and questioned. Plus, he was told repeatedly that he had done nothing wrong.

I think all students are aware that in today's climate, posting gun activity on social media is a guaranteed ticket to visit the resource officer.

Had that been your kid, I flat guarantee you it wouldn't be the same.

Or do you like the idea of the state taking your place as a parent? Or talking to your kid and asking pointed questions without having you present?

Get off your ****ing high horse, luther.

So true:

Before the fact......you're doing to much, over reacting, and trampling on our rights.

After the fact.......why didn't you do more?

The difference being one kid showed a lengthy pattern of emotional issues coupled with criminal acts. The other went and did something completely legal with his parent.

If this kid was Muslim we’d be back to “f the racist pigs for profiling”.

Had they treated the kid who shot up the school this way a few months ago, we'd all be thrilled.

I said they may have over reacted. We do not know the kid's past.

We do not know this kid's past. That's pretty critical in this whole argument.

Have you heard anyone on here argue the cops weren't completely justified in taking that turd's weapons up to or even more than a year prior to the incident?

Furthermore, do you really support such idiotic knee jerk reactions in the aftermath?

What did this kid do wrong? What illegal act did he commit? Do you support the school questioning him without having his parents present?

Schools, admin., RO's, counselors, question students on a daily basis; it's part of the job.

Overreact much? No one said they can't post it on social media, only that there was a consequence.

There are plenty of things you are free to say (or post on social media) but many of those things have consequences. Freak occasionally bans people from this site, is that a violation of 1a?

the schools own the social media sites?

The only reason I am not as triggered as the rest is because kids at the school requested it be looked into. No way shape or form the school should be patrolling the kids social media looking for stuff like this. and the manner in which they did this made a non issue an issue.

Posting images of shooting an AR15 is going to be viewed as threatening by many students and their parents. That' just the way it is.
And that in a nutshell is what is wrong with you people.

You are ****ing scared of your own shadow.

Wow, they would have gotten a big piss off not only from me.

school calls you and tells you they have seen something that makes them think your kid tried to commit suicide and you are telling them to piss off? I would at least want to listen to what they said so I could make an informed response.

The schools don't patrol social media, they hear about it from other students and parents. Schools get multiple calls a day from parents and students about things posted on social media.

Are you insane? Their business is the safety of all the students.

then they should have been proud, kid was at a safety class.

only way it should have been their business is if he had been threatening the school/people. as it was they can shove off.

"What do you want to do with your future" is far different than:

"You were observed shooting guns on a Twitter post. Now, you aren't in trouble, but we're going to get three officers in here to question you continually until we make up our minds that you aren't a threat. But no, you aren't in trouble for doing something completely legal and haven't made any threatening remarks of any kind. But we're going to hound you until we know the truth."

My ass would probably be thrown in jail if that happened to my kid. Because nothing would stop me from destroying those officers involved.

Face facts here, luther. That Sheriff's Office sucks big hairy donkey balls. Do you really think they are the best to determine a "threat" at this point?

so much for taking the words of the kids involved in a terrible tragedy.

I think there is no way in he!! that they do not respond aggressively to any reported threat; real or perceived....because, how do you know?
