I might have gotten giddy over seeing two things:

1) Passes caught over the middle (what you just said)
2) Large holes being formed by the OL

Loved seeing both of those.

That’s 5 right there.
Pretty safe to assume that these guys will be in the 2 deep:

JJ-LB
Chryst- QB
Wood Anderson- TE
Jahmir Johnson- OL

Then the grad transfers at RB, CB etc.

It’s gonna be a really interesting fall camp.

Every year we have high hopes that players returning from injury will make a huge impact. I am more optimistic this year that will actually happen.

They also ran a lot of rpo which I think we will to. Probably have some similar elements to what they ran.

It’s so much easier to be diverse when you work out of traditional back fields. You can always add in spread elements to traditional formations. Hard to add in traditional elements to spread formations.

Amazing how WRs who got no separation last year can get open with good pass route combinations. I know it’s just a spring game but it’s obvious how much better the scheme is already.

I agree. Not to make an excuse for Butch, he should’ve changed his system to adapt to the players he had. But I feel like when you see a spread team go under center on 3rd or 4th & short, defenses are just going to stack the box and the odds aren’t exactly in your favor especially with it being something your side isn’t used to.

A play as simple like a i form play action pull to the full back is so deadly especially in short yardagelol. You just don’t get that from our offense before

Is it? I’d take your word for it. That was just always my theory as to why they never went under center. I felt like it would get stuffed.. thanks for the response.

It’s why I felt that DeBord wanted to mix in the offset I and that it would have made BOTH Hurd and Kamara more dangerous. Butch’s stubbornness led to both leaving imo.

For some reason I really thought going into last year that Butch had learned from his mistakes and was going to make positive changes and let his assistants coach. In hindsight it was just wishful thinking on my part as there was no evidence pointing that way. In fact, him promoting from within and not going out and getting a top notch OC, QB coach and WR coach was evidence to the contrary.

I remember advocating giving THEM a chance. In retrospect, the fallacy is a leap of faith on too many multiples is an impossible jump.

I'm not sure any top offensive coordinator, QB, or WR coach wanted to work for that clown. Probably how we ended up with an offensive coordinator who had only called plays in high school ball, QB coach who was previously a running backs coach at Utah State, and a WR coach who was a grad assistant like two years prior. The hand writing was on the wall for anyone who wanted to admit it IMO.

Other than the once-in-a-lifetime Schiano event, we just don't have much of a say.
I always give people a chance because there's really only one other option - gripe and moan. There's just enough of that in the world, without me adding to it.

Being kind of picky here, but Calbert was actually out there with the 2s a bit Saturday.

I didn’t watch him closely enough to really see how he was doing, but it’s good he was able to get out there and get some experience. If he can stay healthy, he’s got a lot of potential a year or two down the road. If we have some injuries, we may need him this year.

In 2013 against UGA Bahamian put us under Center with a fullback on two vital 4th downs and we converted both.

One a run up the middle, the other a PA pass to Branisel (who’d been lined up as a FB) that went for a chunk gain and might have been scored by a better athlete.



Spread teams can totally incorporate those elements into their game and have them be effective. They’ve just gotta use them smartly.
