Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

But 5th nationally IS SHOWING UP. So do we call him out if we finish 5th in the final football poll this year? If we did, that would also be ridiculous. If 20k has shown up, then call them out. It’s really that simple as far as the point I am making.

Really, whats the over/under on his team finishing 5th this year?

Agreed

It really is just a small group of you guys who are offended that are making the most noise.

Get over it. The rest of us aren't blowing this out of proportion.

We are discussing a meaningless topic on a message board. Whats the proportion?

No reason to be on him about this for he is spot on. He might be a hothead but he says what he thinks and none of the bs cliches as the last joke to roam the sidelines. He is what this program is needing not a damn sugar coating bser but a coach.

Here we go: Mr there are only two extreme sides to an issue. Just because he might have used a little better judgement and not said anything about the attendance doesn't make him a 'sugar coating bser".

Sound reasoning just isn't being practiced anymore

You sound like a champion in life congrats me jones

Ome of the biggest red flags about Pruitt is that he is a hothead that shoots his mouth off a lot. I thought becoming a HC might humble him. Hopefullt the guy doesnt think he's actually Saban just because he's coached with him awhile. He's done absolutely nothing as a HC yet, obviously.

Personally I like a guy that speaks his mind and especially a guy that doesn’t take any sh*t from Saban. That’s exactly what this program needs. Not some butt kissing idol worshipper acting like a school kid excited just to shake Nick’s hand.

Bama had 75,000 fans at their spring game in a town of 99,000. Tennessee couldnt break 65,000 in a city of 850,000. Still want to compare? The turnout was pathetic, as a fan that has never lived close enough to go to a game (went to one game in 99 when my family was given tickets)I could only wish to be there in attendance, yet there are some "fans" living within spitting distance that couldn't be bothered to go watch a free afternoon of football.

The population of Knoxville is 850,000????

Fan A: Pruitt probably shouldnt be calling out fans.

Fan B: you stupid f'ing snowflake, stop being sensitive, why are you revolting and turning on the coach. Stop overreacting and blowing things out of proportion you stupid idiot snowflake, you wanna fight?

Calling out the fans before you have done anything is a mistake. He has done nothing at this point but gone through a spring practice, and is more or less throwing fans under the bus. Just because he is brutally honest doesn't make him correct. I would have hoped his mentality would have been "I can get this done" instead of looking for excuses.

Did he say that the team failed because fans didnt show up? No, so this isnt an excuse just an observation, but what does he know the last two teams he coached for beat our spring game attendance.

Running back? From where?
Pruitt wins, he'll get support. Insulting the fan base isn't going to help his cause.

He only insulted the portion of the fan base that could have been there but weren't, and as a fan that hasn't lived close enough to go to a spring game, if I was around and didn't have work, there is no reason not to be there to watch a free afternoon of Tennessee football. If you are offended by his comments you probably should have been there.

official number was announced as 65k but I would estimate it to be more like 55k which I don't think is too bad. But I would not publicly say I was disappointed if I were the new coach. I do think is using this to call the entire team out. This is not the effort you have put out to win championships. but on the other hand these players are having to think too much learning a complete new system and it is hard to show great effort and not be able to tee off on someone and pull up when you get a clean shot. That is the main reason I do not put a lot in spring games.

So you’re a professional counter? How much cabbage do you pull with that gig? :cool2:

So we know his mentality isn't that?

I'd be curious to know how much he mentions the fanbase to his team in practice and meetings in regards to their role in whether the players can win football games. I'd guess he hasn't. One isn't directly connected to the other in that sense.

Fan B: you stupid f'ing snowflake, stop being sensitive, why are you revolting and turning on the coach. Stop overreacting and blowing things out of proportion you stupid idiot snowflake, you wanna fight?

Alternatively:

Fan A: Pruitt is a hothead that shoots his mouth off a lot. Unprofessional to criticize the fans. Alas, Goober comes forth. What do expect from a Bammer.

Fan B: The dude is just in search of excellence throughout the program.

The advantage of the latter interpretation is that it is made up entirely of things people actually said, in this thread.

Whereas the other is a gross exaggeration favoring one side while using words no one actually said.

Or maybe I'm wrong: point out the post where one person said, "stupid f'ing snowflake," or "why are you revolting?" or "stupid idiot snowflake," or "you wanna fight?"

Knoxville population is less than 200,000. I like Pruitt and I'm not at all offended by the comments, but for a coach that chose to stay at Bama and coach a bowl game instead of getting here and getting started on the recruiting class doesn't really need to be pointing the attendance finger at the first fan event.

You do realize there is this thing called the internet to search for the answer to your questions right, because the population of the knoxville metropolitan statistical area has a much larger population than 200,000.

I don't know man, it looked pretty darn full except for the upper deck (which had scatterings of people in it, but was largely empty).

Down in the lower two-thirds of the stadium, the only gaps I could see were (1) in the S-T-U-V sections that were roped off for some special group (family of the players and coaches? visiting recruits? student body? all the above?), which was about 2/3 full at the high point, and (2) one small area way up at the top on the end closest to the Hill. There was a triangle-shaped area of about 200 seats that was like 1/3 full.

Otherwise, it was decently packed, say at least 85% for the lower bowl.

Someone once said (I can't verify this) that the lower bowl = 70,000. If that's true, and we had 85% or better of the lower bowl (59,500+, call it 60,000) and 10% of the upper bowl (3,200 or so), that equals about 63,000-64,000.

In short, I think the official number seems pretty accurate and very believable. Just based on where I was sitting in section C, and what I could see.

I think 60-65k is probably reasonably accurate. What they usually do is take photos of the stadium (and sections) over a period of time. Take the known capacity of a section and compare it to the numbers of butts in seats in the photos over that period of time, factoring in people moving, leaving, etc. to come to an estimate. It still has a margin of error plus or minus, but it's typically fairly close.

I thought we would hit 70+ based on how it was outside the stadium pre-game and VolWalk. Felt like a rivalry gameday at that point.

It looks like to me he mentioned the fan that did show up,the fans that couldn't show up and the fans that wouldn't show up. It's the Volnation way to complain about only one thing out of the whole quote.
I didn't show up because I'm on a walker right now and could not make it in the stadium. If not for that I would have been there. My skin is too thick to get upset over what was said.
Now I'm gonna be a knee bender and worshipper and say I agree with what he said. It wasn't out of line when you put it in context I th the whole quote.
Anyway, whether your upset or not have a great day and carry on.

I watched the quote in context.
Dick move. Think before you speak.

He could have said it so many ways that would have sounded better.

Hell, what do expect from a Bammer.
