Truth. But I will say the Warriors are fun to watch just because of their ball movement offense. It's not just one guy dribbling for 20 seconds every possession. They assist on almost every basket. So I'll give them some credit. But I used to watch every game on tv back in the 80s and 90s and now I can barely get through a whole game without flipping through the channels and not having enough interest to go back to the game. It's mostly boring basketball now.

I'm not much of an NBA fan but I agree. I watch the Warriors any chance I get. They are super fun to watch(when curry is healthy anyway).

Reneging on a previous post here to add that those actions in and of themselves aren’t bad. But the ways MJ did them would definitely be labeled “problematic” today.

Some are upset because Lebron wore shoes that said “King” the other day. Jordan would call opponents “f***ing midgets” and it wasn’t even newsworthy back in the day.

As for the gambling...well the fact that there are many who believe that both Jordan’s sabbatical from the NBA and his father’s murder can be traced back to Jordan’s gambling and the fact that there are TONS of stories about him spending nights out gambling before games would get terrible publicity today. FWIW the latter of those three things just adds to his on the court greatness IMO, but not all would see it that way.

I guess I just hate this “social media” society where everything gets put under a microscope and blown out of proportion.

Unfortunately, it can always get worse. I don't think it will, but as a longtime survivor of BVS, I am constantly bracing for the next nutkick.

lol...we've not been short on those over the last decade. that's for sure.:eek:lol:

Lebron is very talented but he's mentally weak. MJ would make him cry just by looking at him.

Jordan is the GOAT but LeBron is also one of the best ever.

To me, the difference is this...LeBron changes uniforms on a regular basis in his attempt to catch MJ's records and basketball immortality. Jordan put the same uniform on year-in, year-out, and said, "bring it, boys".

Easy tiger, dang, you laid out "what if's" on some D linemen moving to O Line... Seems like you are pretty dialed in, so I asked who that would leave us on the D line if any of this took shape.... Knee-jerk much?

Did you see the announcement yesterday of all the position changes that he talked about in his post? All of these moves happened, but, we are speculating as to who will stay where in the Fall.

I think Ron is referring to the fact that he pisses and moans just about every game... And, true basketball is not played anymore like years ago... it is just a couple of passes, no defense, a three point shot or a slam dunk... Lebron would not be half the player he is today if he played his game now, back then... guys like Lambier, Parrish, and even Rodman would physically beat his butt...

Seriously doubt that. Lebron is a once in a generation type talent. Idc if he whines constantly, that doesn't change that fact. The guy has been the best player in the world for ten years. He would have dominated the league in those days just like he's doing now.

Jordan 1. Lebron like 15th or something

You just can't compare players in different eras. Too many variables. Jordan was definitely the best in his era; Lebron is definitely the best in his. This debate will never be settled.

Both are greatness incarnate. Why can't we leave it at that?

Whoa whoa.

I’m a young folk and I love the basketball they played in the 80s and 90s. Would rather watch that honestly. There’s a few of us out there who love the game the way it used to be played.

Fair enough.

MOST of these young folk seem to think basketball was invented in the year 2000

I personally love the idea of having the 6th or 7th best/talented player on the team (hypothetically) able to fill in for one of the top 22, instead of the 23rd or 28th or 44th most talented player.

For example, if Alontae Taylor can develop some strong CB skills, but wants to play WR, that's a great insurance policy on both sides of the ball. Maybe he actually plays some on both sides.

Jordan, then random guys like
Magic
Byrd
Isiah
Clyde the glide
Stockton
Barkley
Parish
Duncan..... and many others......

Then Lebron. I have never seen a top player like him whine and complain so much to refs every game and make excuses... Be a man, and let your game do the talking... It is a generation thing.

Involuntary just reminded me of a few others-- Worthy, Rambis, McHale, ... yeah those guys were legit ballers.

Lebron does whine a lot. The reason Jordan did not whine is that he got every. single. call. Every. single. one.

Guys old enough to have watched MJ play (back when the NBA was good) know what I'm talking about. Sorry that you missed it. The NBA hasn't been the same since that era. Gone way downhill. Can't even play defense anymore, bunch of whiny babies flopping all over the floor, it's embarrassing.

Just bc guys give a mean look after a foul doesn’t mean it’s better defense. The whole tougher era is just romanticizing the past. Players now shoot better than they ever have before the game is more spaced out Bc of it thus being more offense oriented. Doesn’t mean iso or 1-1 defenders are lesser. It’s just like saying nfl defenses were better in the80s Bc they scored less. No it’s bc most QBs weren’t as good and offenses were more ball control and run oriented.

One of my favorite sports anecdotes or stories...

In one of Larry Bird's games, it started getting very chippy and the ref told one of his opponents to back off or he was going to get "t-ed up or tossed". Bird told the ref, "don't worry, I'll take it from here."

You really think it was just about mean looks after a foul? Players today, people in general, arent as mentally tough as they were back then. This is fact. It’s just a different game now.

To be fair, you are the one who said there were no great teams that Jordan had to beat. So it’s more that you are romanticizing the present.

Lol but he isn’t nearly as mean as they were.

Oh so he isn't as mean as they were so I guess a 6'9 260 pound locomotive wouldn't have been able to get much done back then lol. He'd dominate the league back then just like he has today's league for the last 15 years.

I love ya Hank, but I've got to disagree. And now I'm going to show my age...

The best shooting I've seen in my life were the heydays of the Celtics & the Lakers back in the 60s. The Celtics had a roster filled with Hall-of-Famers and the Lakers had Chamberlain, Baylor and West. Those guys seemed to go 15-20 possessions before someone would miss. They made 132-127 games look routine.

I know many will come back and argue the lack of defense. But, there's no way you see today's NBA has that level of shooting. The Warriors are close, but it's still not the same.
