So Lebron went to NY last night and wore shoes taunting an injured guy who couldn’t even play and defend himself? What a loser

If you are referencing kanter. Come on now. Dont act like kanter is a victim. Kanter is an average player at best and talks a tough game but is not about anything violent. Knicks fans love bron more than they do kanter.

That is probably because that isn't what he or anyone else is saying.

He asked to be put on record as saying we won't win more than seven games. Sounds like a prognostication, to me. If you're going to roll the bones, you would think an actual fan might have higher hopes than, "literally terrible at football."

You can say something without actually saying. It's called subtext. It's everywhere.

So what? You don’t taunt a guy who can’t even play or defend himself. That’s the equivalent of being an internet tough guy

I think you're adding your own subtext to his post. Your interpretation doesn't even really seem close to what he was saying. Sometimes someone is actually just saying what he means, which seemed to be that he is predicting a certain win total, not hoping for it.

Don't perpetuate the outrage reaction that's taking over everything. It's sports, he was mildly taunting someone who wouldn't be able to defend himself even if he were healthy. It's a game. He wasn't taunting a paraplegic's wife or anything horrific like that.

Thanks, I dont know words much. Im still not sure how that equals what you are implying. I think we win 5 MAYBE 6 and Ive said that multiple times. I love being right, its awesome. That doesnt mean for one second I want the Vols to lose any games ever. It just means that I think they probably will.

Disagree big time. Not saying Byrd is definitely a top talent, but in general coaching can absolutely squander top talent.

Whatever happened to "Today is the first day of the rest of my life"?

TB needs to take responsibility for seizing his opportunity now or squandering it. His choice.

I’m not offended in this least. It’s just more evidence that Lebron is a cowardly, overrated player

Maybe. I would argue that by virtue of making a prediction, specifically one that's, "on the record," you're inherently hoping it comes true. Why else would you make the prediction? The only reason to put it on the record (I cringe every time I write that, is there a VN stenographer I'm not aware of?) is so that, presumably, it can be referenced later - the only reason I can think someone would want to reference a prediction at a later date is to gloat about their ability to predict an outcome.

Can you outline a scenario where that prediction, made in that manner, doesn't indicate a desire to be correct?

He seems to enjoy being a smug POS, it's been his shtick as long as I can remember.

Agree. He has to keep telling everybody how great he is

Jordan used to make sure everyone knew he was the best. The difference was that he always showed you and made sure there was no questioning it.

Lebron is kinda like "I'm the best.......right???"

An example.... Michael entered the dunk contest and won in the best dunk contest of all time.

Lebron would never ever enter that. He's afraid he would lose. But what he did do is tease like he was going to enter then not do it. And then he had his own slam dunk expo during team practice the week before the actual dunk contest and video leaked onto the internet.

It's a way of saying "see I could win it but I'm not gonna enter."

That's a really absurd premise. People predict things they don't want to happen all the time.

"I hope you don't ever get herpes, but you probably will."

See how off putting that is? Predicting something bad, no matter how likely it is, makes you sound like a jerk. (I'm not saying you personally are more likely to get herpes than any other person, just that 1 in 5 people have it, so the odds are pretty good).

And why do they do that? What purpose does a prediction serve?

If you have a practical purpose for predictions, outside of proving one's, "correctness," I'd love to hear it. If it isn't practical, and he just made that prediction for funsies, than I still think he's a smug POS.

So you think I hope Tennessee doesn't win more than 7 next year?

We're not winning more than 7 games this year. Put me on record.

LOL, you really can't think of any other reason to make a prediction other than hoping to be right?
