Should Sinclair media lose all media licensing for this?

You are a news reporter. You, along with many others, are told to read a political statement, word for word. The exact same statement others are forced to read.

I don’t see anything in Sinclair’s statement. Maybe MSNBC and CNN are upset Sinclair isn’t in lock step with the progressive agenda?

If my employer asked me to do something I felt so strongly against, I’d refuse and give the reasoning as to why with my boss or I’d resign. There are options.

Go get a job at either CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC since I have practice.

No, no options. This is just like Anthem. They are assigned to be reporters, that's all they can do. Refusing to do so is grounds for imprisonment and reeducation.

Let me get this right - the Federal government and it's intelligence agencies spy on an opposition party candidate based at least in part on information gathered on behalf of and paid for by the candidates rival (from the same party as the current leading party). That information is sourced from a hostile foreign government.

This rates a "meh" from the OP.

But a private media company sends a policy statement down the line and it is an outrage meriting full Congressional investigation and striping of media rights from said company.

Yep, the country is screwed.

I didn’t even vote for Trump. But after a year of total bull**** on Russia, collision, blocked appointees, DACA posturing, more needless gun control crap that won’t fix anything, Justice CIA and FBI security leaks and obstruction, California basically throwing out federal law on several fronts, etc etc ... by the libtards I’m totally on board.

I’ve never just pulled the red lever in a vote. I’ve always voted for specific candidates and considered party.

This year and going forward I’m pulling the red lever. Enough of this ****.

See, it worked.

Just can't accept that maybe, people, individuals, who because of the way they view the acts and words of the leftists/progressives as the motivation for why they have disdain or dislike for the leftists progressives as the reason instead of the "news".........

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and thoughts, and yet, the left is the one who can't allow individuals to think as they see fit and have to pass judgement because of the difference, instead of just accepting the difference.

I don't like the views you have, but, don't care that you have them. You don't like the views I have, but, you do nothing but care and tell me how I'm wrong. I don't need any "media" or "news" to tell me that I just don't like you and your views, I just need to watch and pay attention to you and your words and actions to reach my decision.

Sinclair tells stations to air media-bashing promos - and the criticism goes viral - Apr. 1, 2018

I've seen a mash up of this. Like 20 stations reading the EXACT same script, word for word, echoing the "fake media" narrative. It is beyond alarming. It is fascist.

Congress needs to hold hearings, at a minimum. I can't believe conservatives would even stand for this.

"Infotainment"

You'll appreciate this: my good friend always spouts the latest Rush Limbaugh garbage. He throws around stuff which is 100% factually incorrect: gun control. Immigration, Mueller, etc. I try to correct him but there's no point. People gonna believe what they gonna believe. There's no potential legal recourse with Sinclair because there's no actual damages right?

I'm the anomaly, my apathy and disdain covers the majority of, well, just people.

I judge you on the conviction, not the thought. All I want is people to hold value in their thoughts and beliefs, and that means, are you willing to die for them? Even if I disagree, no matter how much, with what you hold near and dear, I can't do anything but respect you and those beliefs if you have the conviction in them. Unfortunately, that is a small percentage of people, most people aren't this strong and are weak and meek and are pathetic and don't know who or what they are and what they stand for, they just like to talk and hear themselves talk.

The problem with journalism has very little to do with the explicit bias of the news media outlet and a lot to do with the implicit biases of the editors and reporters combined with the ignorance and lack of intellectual curiosity of the public. It's more a story of what facts journalists choose to report them their opining on these.

Obama spoke of irresponsible journalism. He said that if a reporter is covering an election and one candidate says the earth is flat, that is worth reporting. But, it's the responsibility of the reporter to follow that with the fact that the overwhelming consensus of scientists is that the earth is not flat.

In the same vein, one might think a school shooting is worth reporting. Yet, a responsible journalist should follow the fact and report the fact that your child is more likely to be killed by lightning than to be killed by any weapon at school. To not to this is to sensationalize the story and to do so irresponsibly.

Both sides are guilty of this. Further, most of the public is guilty of not looking into these matters at a deeper level.

None of this will change through legislation, as it's impossible to enforce responsible journalism or responsible consumption of news.

An edict of "must run, word for word commentary" by a station owner across all affiliates is something you would expect to see of state run media. This shouldn't happen in the United States. Viewers should feel their intelligence has been offended by such an obvious attempt at manipulation. However, whatever the station owner was trying to accomplish has fallen flat. It was too carefully scripted and transparent of an agenda.

This would be laughable if it wasn't so naieve. CBS, ABC, NBC, all of them have always done this. If they outright own the station or have news feed content written into affiliate station contracts, NO ONE has a right to tell them what they can or can not broadcast. What planet did you arrive from?

What, did like 20 out of 200 or so local Sinclair stations read the script to denounce and have warnings for fake news? Not like it was forced, or am I missing something? I recall something being said where I live by a local station, and it came across as very truthful and balanced... and they said where to go to report misinformation, to let them know if they've got something wrong.

Sinclair says it produced the spots to express concern about the spread of such false media reports such as the "Pope Endorses Trump" fake news story and the "Pizzagate" conspiracy story, both of which emerged just before the 2016 presidential election and can have "potentially dangerous consequences, said Scott Livingston, Sinclair's senior vice president of news, in a statement sent to USA TODAY.

“It is ironic that we would be attacked for messages promoting our journalistic initiative for fair and objective reporting, and for specifically asking the public to hold our newsrooms accountable," he said. "Our local stations keep our audiences’ trust by staying focused on fact-based reporting and clearly identifying commentary.”

Many liberals have called out Sinclair for the same behavior that these promotions decry. The company got some attention in April for hiring Boris Epshteyn, a special assistant to President Trump, as a chief political analyst. His "Bottom Line with Boris" commentary segments, which appear across Sinclair's network of stations, are often attacked as misinformation that touts a pro-Trump agenda.

Sinclair has been criticized in the past for giving favorable coverage to then-Republican presidential candidate Trump. The broadcaster has said in the past that it offered similar coverage opportunities to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The other thing I find funny is the OP screeching about this, but giving a "meh" to the PROVEN fact the DNC colluded with the media for their candidate in 2016.

Where was that outrage, LG? Did you call for a Congressional hearing then?

See, it worked.

If you say so. In your mind it makes perfect sense.

In my mind I see a huge bunch of cry babies intent on nothing but obstructing the duly elected administration for no other reason than they didn’t get what they wanted. Tough ****. After enough they sure did convince me ... to do the exact opposite.

So. Yeah. If you say so.
