anywho, my bigger issue with any of it was the continued bad news on our issues at CB, and having a kid that's supposed to be as good as Byrd has been reported to be, not working out (for whatever reason) at a position of such need, is frustrating.

the shamburger news is much less distressing to me because i do think he's a heck of a player, and will have an impact at either spot, nickel or corner.

just #'s wise, we're better off at nickel/safety than we are at corner.

When this discussion began, I took Hank's comments about Shamburger working as the nickel to mean it was a very valuable and versatile position...it isn't the place to try and hide someone.

Maybe I misunderstood the poster or Hank's response.

Not sure. According to the other article I just posted he worked extensively at Safety the first week. So maybe the Pruitt quote saying, "So we just felt like after two days that we thought that it might be his best position to actually play safety, because you play with a lot of vision on the quarterback, and he can use his natural ball-catching ability." was because they tried him at safety to begin with and he took to it so they are leaving him. It's hard to know for sure.

no, that's correct. it's an important role in this defense, and shamburger should shine. i think he's going to be really good....

I agree with you. I know it’s hard to believe that a highly ranked player from Miami can’t be productive somewhere but I just it’s on him at this point. If he can’t be productive in college under multiple staffs on either side of the ball or even the return game it’s on him.

Wow. You seriously know nothing about basketball. That guy isn't in the same universe as LeBron. In fact he's not even good. He'll be an absolute BUST.

His athleticism is overrated. And he's got no skill. Total trash.

Rucker: Tennessee Vols football coach Jeremy Pruitt used to building from basics

Jeremy Pruitt doesn’t claim to reinvent the wheel.

On the contrary, Tennessee’s new football coach freely admits that most of the things he does are things he’s “stoled” from former bosses Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and Mark Richt.

Why fix something that isn’t broken?

“I think we have a great teaching progression,” Pruitt said after Saturday’s spring camp practice at Haslam Field. “It’s worked everywhere we’ve been.”

Coaching is only one half of the equation, though.

Players have to be willing and able to learn.

According to Pruitt, though, the Vols continue checking both of those boxes.

Some, naturally, are picking it up faster than others, but apparently all of them are trying. And that’s a start.

“Our guys are committed,” Pruitt said. “When they get opportunities, I see ‘em over here in the film room. I saw ‘em over here (Friday), a lot of ‘em were over here watching special-teams tape. I think our guys are hungry. I think they want to be the best that they can possibly be, and we’ve just got to keep coaching ‘em.”

Maybe JC can confirm or refute but I have been told Sanders told a sulking player to sit out of a drill and the kid refused to take a knee. Sanders then Forced him to the ground by striking his Helmet.

Without seeing exactly how it happened It's hard to take sides. Could been either side of the line imo

I am used to not taking a coach at his word so it's ok to say you don't believe him.

For now I take him for his words

So Pruitt saying safety is probably his best position means he goes back to WR? If they were gonna do that it would happen after practice 7 tomorrow which was when they said they would re-evaluate position switches. But everything I've seen says they are leaving him at safety. And I don't remember any reports of him doing poorly at safety so not sure why they'd move him back. The most negative thing that's been said about him by Pruitt or actual reporters is that it's new to him. Which is to be expected. Most of the negative has come from posters speculating that he's not cutting it. Maybe he isn't cutting it but the Pruitt quotes don't make me think that.

Agreed but after 6 practices it’s not time to pass judgement yet. Hopefully he has a great summer and a big impact this fall.

He went to defense. Immediately gets moved. Already talking about how good he is at catching the ball.

So yeah, I could see him ending up back over there. Obviously Pruitt needs some help in the secondary. He's giving guys looks over there. If Byrd sticks at safety that's fine. I'm just saying based on the quote I could see him ending up back on O. Like I said earlier I'm not sure he's physical enough to play defense in the SEC.
