Actually, UT could challenge whether Butch has made "reasonable best efforts" to mitigate damages. Since he was willing to take an off-field internship position paying $35K, the argument could be made that he could have found a higher paying position. Butch's definition of "comparable position" broadens the options available. Clearly, UT is choosing not to escalate the issue, even though intent has been transparent.

He could make more selling cars.

Who are the Haslems to you, and why are you so adamantly defending them?

The Haslams aren’t anything to me. And I’m not defending them as much as I’m saying that the impact on Tennessee athletics some of you all are giving the legislation is ridiculous. I’d probably be saying the same thing regardless of the governor.

Plus, some of you all act like the Haslams are the only influential people in this state or associated with the University of Tennessee and what Bill Haslam does or says as governor will last for eternity.

But as someone said earlier, it’s much easier to blame everything on the Haslam bogeyman.

I'm pretty sure a guy worth millions and millions of dollars isn't sweating insurance..that is really silly to me. He isn't some middle class guy making 30-50 grand a year trying to pay for insurance on a family of five like most of us.

Read my post again before you start getting defensive for no reason.

I wasn't meaning that to sound defensive. It actually made me chuckle when I read it, it seemed funny in a silly way to think a guy worth in excess of 10 million dollars is worried about COBRA coverage...

Roger Goodell is making $30 mil a year and had free health insurance coverage for life for his family written into his contract. Why pay for something when you don’t need to?

And it is easier for you to hide under your pillow, than to acknowledge that horrible people who abuse power and station (boogymen) exist.

The Haslems are bad people with limitless resources, and the links to people like Jubran are real...so..you continue to ignore the evidence if you want like a scared little boy, I will keep my eyes open, and see them for what they are.

So you are worried about the Haslam family and he isn't but you call him the scared little boy. Haha. I'm not defending him just thinking yer insult sounds ironic considering the side of the point you are on compared to his side of the point.

I get that, but I don't think Goodell is sweating it either.

Sweat ain’t the crux of this. Adrian Dantley was thrifty with his NBA money and retired financially secure. Still works as a part time school crossing guard for? You guessed it...free medical insurance.

Try again...my point is that he uses that term "boogymen" as a put down of people who see the Haslems for what they have done, what they are, and what they are trying to do. It is ironic he uses that term to suggest that others are afraid or paranoid, when he is the one that is afraid to acknowledge the truth of it. Now if you read my other post again you will get my drift.

Ok..I guess I just don't understand sweating a few dollars when you are a multimillionaire.

With inclement weather rolling into Knoxville, Tennessee held a truncated opening viewing period Thursday.

The media was only allowed about 6-8 minutes, but here’s what VolQuest.com picked up during the early portions of practice…

* The OL unit remains the same, with Drew Richmond at LT, DeVante Brooks at LG, Ryan Johnson at C, Riley Locklear at RG and Marcus Tatum at RT.

Early enrollees Jerome Carvin and Ollie Lane routinely get extra coaching from Will Friend — and they’re getting plenty of reps as well with the limited numbers there. K’Rojhn Calbert was back out there again Thursday, taking reps at LG.

* Tennessee’s quarterbacks and receivers struggled to battle the elements early in the route tree, but both units adjusted to the wind as the session progressed. The Vols ran a new set of routes today, focusing on double moves and deep corners down in the red zone.

The timing was totally off on the double-move reps, but Jarrett Guarantano tossed a couple dimes on corner patterns later in the drill. Jordan Murphy also had a diving catch during the session.

As we noted yesterday, Keller Chryst remains in town, and the Stanford grad transfer quarterback was simulating every rep behind Helton and the quarterbacks during each throw.

* Interestingly, during many of the routes on air periods this spring, the tight ends have been doing their own individual work. That continued Thursday, with Brian Niedermeyer leading a drill focused on run blocking.

* I imagine Jordan Allen and Austin Smith hear Chris Rumph’s voice in their sleep. Tennessee OLB coach continues to ride both players very hard thus far this spring. Rumph made Allen and Smith redo a pad level, strike drill twice Thursday, and he also had Darrell Taylor do push-ups following a lackluster effort.

* Conversely, Tracy Rocker actually seemed pleased with his DL unit today. He didn’t mince words with Matthew Butler at one point, but the veteran coach was mostly pleased with his guys during the short viewing period.

* Finally, the defensive backs spent the initial portion of practice on install, with head coach Jeremy Pruitt working closely with both the safeties and corners.

THIS & THAT

* Working on the side, linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. made his first appearance at a spring practice thus far. The senior continues to recover from a minor knee procedure. Meanwhile, tailback Tim Jordan was also working with the S&C staff. The sophomore running back is recovering from an appendectomy surgery earlier this month.

* The rest of Tennessee’s disabled list remains the same, with Todd Kelly, Jauan Jennings, Trey Smith and DJ Henderson working on the side.

* As previously noted on the GQ, top 2020 Alabama prospects CB Malachi Moore and WR Dazalin Worsham, both from Hewitt-Trussville, were at practice. Also 2019 DT DeWayne Carter.

Other prospects in attendance also included 2020 Alabama ATH Kristian Story, who visited the Vols a couple weeks ago and 2019 RB Shad Byrd.

* Tennessee basketball star Grant Williams watched practice Thursday with AD Phillip Fulmer.

Ok..I guess I just don't understand sweating a few dollars when you are a multimillionaire.

I’ve had personal dealings with Jerry Jones. Dude “sweats” over small details like smudges on glass doors. He’s a multi-billionaire. In Butch’s case, he’s reinventing his career and with his buyout, free health coverage is worth more than the $32,000 pittance. Some health issue pops up and paying out of pockets can get up in the six figures and paying straight out of pocket for prescriptions is a way to gut punch your retirement. You have insurance?

Many wealthy people inherited their wealth by being frugal and working for advantages and benefits. Warren Buffet has lived in his same home for years.

Not sure why some of this is even a debate.

Nope..can't afford it. But I'm not a multimillionaire.

From what I understand the focus act was modified. So yeah the act was in the works for a long time but recently was changed.

You’re acting like Bill Haslam is just some guy with the same last name. A Haslam picked President/BOT is not good for the university because what we will end up with is people who will do as the Haslams say.

We don’t need any Haslam influence or their money.

Bill Haslam appointed the board members that tried completely finishing off UT football. And they are as close as can be with the governor as Celina pointed out.
Don't know what the guy's problem is you're debating but Bill Haslam had everything to do with the crap that just went down and plans to do more by removing the opposition.

There's really nothing to debate.
