Where is Gray in all of this?

Honestly not sure. I always figured Gray would fit in as kind of a SS/OLB hybrid.

I’ve got no idea how th new staff sees him. But IMO he’ll be behind Warrior, Abernathy, Kelly, Jackson, and maybe even Byrd heading into 2018.

Hard to tell though since reporters are only seeing half an hour or so of practice and Pruitt is being pretty tight lipped about depth chart issues thus far.

Sounds about right-- Surprised Jackson is developing quicker than Gray with all his hype coming in... hope he doesn't turn into a Bates...

I’m sure you’d know better than I do. I’m going off of nothing more than video snippets we’ve seen thus far. But Emerson looks like he’s clearly in another league than most of the DL we have on campus right now. Idk what his ceiling may be, but he looks ready to contribute NOW IMO.

He does and also Latrell Williams (someone i loved last year) is also looking even better then last year *expected* still baffled that was basically non existent last year. Not saying he is this player but he reminds of Jarvis Landry how he is a primary slot guy but can really physical out of the slot. Could be a great security blanket/screen guy this year.

Emerson seems bigger than most expected too. He and Shy seem to be about the same size. Where do you see him on the line?

Just a reminder out there about how CJP uses his d-backs. It's not the traditional. Study Bama. It will depend on the coverage call. A S in Bama's D may be in man coverage on the outside or a LB if physically able. Byrd is being placed in the S role now to develop something they know he can do well. He will roll into other spots and coverages to be developed there as well. Once they get a good idea of his versatility and if he takes coaching well, they will no better how to play him.

His natural athleticism, speed, physicality, flexible hips, etc. along with his personal desire to play D should have been enough for Butch to put him there since he had nothing but crap play the position other than Sutton. But Byrd is now two years removed from that due to Butch's bright idea. Eventually it will become natural to him again or else he will have wasted his 4 years at UT.

Depends on how guys like Butler, Bennett, Crosby, and Johnson come along.

I’m not really sure we’re gonna get a whole lot out of those guys this year. Hopefully I’m wrong though.

Butler’s getting early raves from the staff...and they seem pretty stingy in that department.

I can’t recall hearing much about Butler since spring has started. I think he has the right frame/work ethic/tools to be a good player for us. But I’m not sure he’s in a place to be on par with the SRs, Emerson, or maybe even Gooden in 2018.

Hope I’m wrong though. Him being ready to contribute would be huge for us depth wise this year.

As the recruiting services call them - supposedly and IIRC there are 23 "blue chip" players on D on the existing roster. If so, the cupboard is not bare. As we know there are a handful 3* and down players that end up being very good if developed well.

Keeping the two deep stocked and fresh during the games will be the trick against the better programs until CJP reloads it fully.

Then you haven’t been paying attention to shared VQ practice reports. Butler is mentioned frequently.

I won't support the University of Haslam. If they stage a coup, I'm out.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but that sounds like a dooley/butch mentality. Or millineal, when the going gets tough, quit and go elsewhere.

Try a Neyland/Churchill approach instead: we will fight this evil to the last man, woman, and child. We shall never yield. Fight, fight harder, and fight some more. We will never desert our cause or OUR TENNESSEE!

This was probably my favorite video from yesterday's practice. Shy and Emerson do look like beasts. I think Rocker can do some things with this group. And there are also 3 or 4 freshman that are coming in the summer to help. The freshman may only contribute to depth, but there may be some guys in this group that can step up. And if not we can just run a 1 man front with Bain. :)

I’m with Aesius. Tennessee has proved they listen to two voices outside of their puppeteers: social media mobs coupled with politicians and empty seats.

If they don’t care about winning why should I?

I heard he was not one of Butchies favorites

Yes
Empty Pilot...
It could work much better than the other ...

That wouldn’t work.

They don’t give a rats behind about the little pilot gas stations we use.

They care about travel centers and wholesale fuel sales.

People boycotting them on an individual basis wouldn’t be felt by them at all.

Fighting is one thing. Giving them my money is another.

I'm not at least in terms of how I felt about jackson coming in and not so much what I think about gray. Jackson was underrated and a smoother athlete. So I thought he would be a good one for us.

I swear it looked like gray working at CB in one clip yesterday but could have just been a scheme thing as one site mentioned they were installing bamas pass matchup scheme or something. Pruitt likes his DBs to be multiple as well as he said yesterday he doesn't want to put in the 10th best guy just because he is the backup left corner he wants to put in the 6th best guy and adjust if someone in the top 5 goes down

I think Davenport will be ready to move on... and it'll be hard to oust Fulmer if he gets the marquee programs back on track. It's already apparent that he's going to invest the resources to do that.

You think they'll remove Charlie Anderson from the board?

Emerson may actually end up being the starter at some point. He just moves and looks different. He’s like a baby fletcher cox when he was at state.

He looks very stout at the point of attack and agile. He could be that modern NT that doesn't have to weigh 320.
A la Payne at Bama, can get quick penetration while also taking on two blockers.

Also, something that I observed from the highlights that I cannot wait to see...toss power sweeps to the tailbacks out of power formation and motion routes from the slot. Some of my favorite offensive action that has been gone since Kiffin was here.
