I’m ready to compromise

What if you don't know it's stolen?

They'll just check it against the registry that will be needed for such a thing. Then they'll just accuse you of selling illegally or not reporting it stolen whether or not you realized it.

Then the the lawyers will push victims' families to sue the gun owner that was stolen from.

Went to Disney over spring break.
Metal detectors and drug sniffing dogs, in addition to bag checks. Not sure why Disney should be safer and take more measures than the school system.

Cause of the dumb@$$ attorney from the Miami area that went running around Magic Kingdom with a revolver a year or so ago.

I’m sure he wasn’t the main reason, but it was around that time.

I would say:

1) Raise age to 21
2) Ban bump stocks
3) Ban magazines over 10 rounds (except for law enforcement)
4) Allow lawsuits against purchasers of guns that are stolen and then used to commit violence.
5) Allow purchasers to obtain insurance for # 4.
6) Allow states to mandate # 5 if they so choose.
7) Require background checks for all firearms purchases.
8) Increase presence of SROs on school campuses.
9) Allow states to require metal detectors at schools and public entertainment venues if they so choose.
10) Allow law enforcement to file petitions for seizure of firearms from those considered a threat to themselves or others, with a hearing to be held within 72 hours to determine whether the seizure is justified and to be continued.

If I steal a knife from your kitchen and kill someone, are you liable?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Do you have any idea how much it would cost to have Disney type security at schools? Schools would love it. Tax payers would revolt.

I bet you could think of 4 or 5 reasons if you tried.

Allowing teachers to carry would be free.

But why do schools need more security?

It wouldn't be free and most teachers, students, and their parents are opposed to the idea.

Why do they need more security? Because there are so many unstable people with far to easy access to firearms.

Let’s lock up unstable people.

Easy enough fix. A gun must be reported as stolen within 48 hours. If not, and it's used in a crime, you are charged with a misdemeanor, 2nd offense would be a felony.
cool. so being the victim of a crime is now a criminal act. great idea.

School shootings and deaths are down.

And how would allowing people to carry not be free?

My rights should never be subjected to a public vote, so I don’t really care what most people are opposed to. Their reasons are pretty weak anyway, “what if a teacher gets mad and shoots a kid!”. If we really wanted to kill your kids, a sharp pencil would do the trick

You would really, really, really, have to want to kill in order to use a sharp pencil.
You would only have to really want to kill in order to use a gun. It's the extra two "reallys" that are ofter the difference.

Which is impossible. How do you eliminate the private sale of...anything? Selling a gun to a buddy of mine is just as easy as selling a computer or a TV to someone.

"Gun show loophole" is a scare-mongering term and makes gun rights advocates suspicious of gun control advocates. If I'm not mistaken, the vast majority of gun sales at gun shows are actually done by licensed gun dealers, where a federal background check is required and will be completed. A private sale, which is what gun control advocates want to require background checks for, can occur anywhere.

I can call a buddy of mine right now and sell him a gun, just like I could sell him a recliner or a TV. How are you supposed to enforce a law that requires a background check to be performed? That's where the fear of such a proposal comes in; how would it be enforced? A national gun registry? I'm not sure; you tell me, but I see what it alarms gun rights folks.

In any case, regardless of the law, there is nothing to prevent you from breaking the law and selling the gun to your friend illegally. Hell, you might just loan it to him, give it to him or he may steal it from you. If you don't regulate this how do you ever hope to regulate firearms. Tighten the regs and more guns will transfer via this method. There are 500 million guns out there, bad guys will get them if they want them. Once we understand gun regulation is impossible we can begin to protect our children in schools.

Not a lot of medicated female adults committing mass shootings. There must be a variable beyond just medication. (even though I agree that over medication is one key variable)

Females don't tend to play violent video games either. So, I think you can easily say that males are more likely to act out violently against others.

Males are also more likely to be put on ritalin. Twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD. 2/3 of boys diagnosed are medicated.

The variable is being male.

Despite Heightened Fear Of School Shootings, It's Not A Growing Epidemic : NPR

School shootings are down. Only media coverage is up.

And your desire to kill someone with a pencil vs a gun is no different. Having a gun doesn’t make you any more likely to kill another person.
