‘18 QB Grad Transfer Keller Chryst (UT commit 3/1/18)

Well that makes sense. Why is this crap allowed to be called news or journalism? When the average Joe or Jane can call bs after a cursory glance there is no way it was properly researched.

I mean I don't think they are claiming it's anything more than their opinion. Just like any article ranking qb situations in the future. I just think they have less expertise than some of the more established football guys that have their own sites and such. None are perfect though. I just used to live there and read that paper. It's mostly gator fluff. Just like reading articles in the papers near Knoxville.

I should have clarified. I realize that most of the folks putting these pieces out are not claiming to be journalists. It is just that by publishing through a news site, it gives it a sense of justification that it probably doesn't deserve. Lots of people see a piece like that on a news site and assume it is researched and written by someone that knows what they are about. There should have to be a huge disclaimer or something.

Yeah I can see that. I just add my own disclaimer to any local paper near a program they're covering. haha

I looked into the writer's background before I linked the article. Of course as you would expect he's accepted as legitimate in his profession. Go figure. I also went back and read the elite 11 reports on our two guys (JG & Chryst) and tried to find some articles that might explain why anyone would not be as high on Bentley or Lock as your average Joe or Jane. (I do research to feed my comfirmation bias).

I'm not clairvoyant but I'm willing to give our guys a blank slate (starting over) with the new staff and a new system, in spite of my skepticism. I think there is some sense that we have a couple guys with tremendous upside potential that could shine with good coaching and a good system fit, sort of like Peterman goes to Pittsburgh and beats Clemson.

Like I said, I don't know how its going to work out but at this point and until the gators arrive in Neyland I'd rather be looking for a way it might work out favorably than to reveal the likelihood that I suffer from the same BVS that afflicts much of our fanbase. Living in fantasyland with regard to the vols is an inherited genetic condition; I didn't have much of a choice. God made me that way. :)

As to Lock and Bentley, the Saturday Down South writer for South Carolina isn't sold on Bentley and Lock has a new offensive coordinator. Lock had really good stats but much of his production was inflated against inferior competition. He also led the league in interceptions thrown. Bentley came in second. I think Bentley also has a new offensive coordinator this year. Both guys could turn out to be all-world this year. Within the league I think expectation could be high for them. Our guys could benefit from the opposite. I figure we'll know more after Florida week.

By the way, I'm sure you understand the writer like most sports writers was putting up an opinion piece. His sharing an opinion isn't any different than you or I sharing our opinion, except he likely has a larger audience and gets paid. I disagree with a lot of opinions I come across but I've accepted that's probably not going to change. I could have Coach Pruitt review my posts here before I hit submit but then what's the point of having free speech? Still, I'd probably get most of my posts approved because generally and much of the time I consider myself a homer, sort of like a kiss-ass for the big orange. :)

Yeah I appreciate you bringing the article. I like to see opinions from other perspectives. I was just responding to a question about why it seemed against the grain with my opinion of that paper's inherent bias. Haha

I don't think UT is in a great spot but who do SC and Mizzou have behind Bently and Locke. I think that may be why they are so low.

It still doesn't explain why we are so high though. I had the confused there.

I’d guess not much but I’d give every QB on our roster for either of their starters.

Chryst at practice yesterday?

Yes I confirmed he was there yesterday and i believe he will be here for a majority of the week.

Talking to media?

No he isn’t talking but is here and I’d expect him to be here all week.

Earlier this month the national sports writer for the Orlando Sentinel ranked the QB situations for all SEC teams heading into 2018 spring practice. He has Tennessee as 5th best.

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. Auburn
4. Florida
5. TENNESSEE

6. Texas A&M
7. South Carolina
8. Missouri
9. LSU
10. Mississippi State
11. Ole Miss
12. Vanderbilt
13. Arkansas
14. Kentucky

This is just a dumb list. While I hate to say it, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina, Vandy and Texas A&M have much better QB situations than us. I could argue Ole Miss also. Florida and Tennessee are bottom 4 until proving otherwise.

Miss STate has the best qb In the sec if he’s healthy.
