I was really pro-Mullen during the coaching search. But even I wasn’t convinced he has championship upside.

I’m interested to see what his ceiling is at a big program.

How freaking dumb is Paul Johnson??

You just lost to the bozo we are firing in our worst season ever and you want us to hire you? Wake up you clown!

I know that this is late...
Butch got exactly that when dooley was fired...
Paul Johnson was just expecting Tennessee to repeat history again.

:hi:

I’m tired of talking about floors and ceilings....

I’m firmly in wait and see mode. No expectations either way. I’m tired of jumping on board blindly.

My best guess is that Mullen at UF will be like Richt and Miles at UGA and LSU respectively. He will put up a lot of 10 win seasons, but he won't win the championships to keep the natives satisfied long term.

Miles won championships

Richt also won the SEC twice IIRC, but neither of them won enough to keep the fans satisfied, which is why they were fired. They won the big game every now and then, but they lost it more often than not. Which brings me to Mullen. I think he will win at that type of level at UF. He will get double digit wins most years. He may even win the SEC at some point, but ultimately, he will leave them wanting more. That's my prediction for him.

I don't think I buy that. My guess is that if Chip Kelly accepts the UF job, we hire Mullen, and Currie is still our AD.

I would much rather them have Mullen and us have Pruitt then them have Kelly, us have Mullen and us still have Currie.

We won that round, for sure.

If Mullen wins like that at florida it's a huge success.
Same with Pruitt here. Fans are ignorant everywhere

I think the expectation at Tennessee floor wise should be around 7 wins once a program is established. Really no excuse to ever lose more than 5 a year after you've had a couple years to build it. You're just about guaranteed three non conference wins every season. Add to those Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri, and I'll include South Carolina. All of which are inferior programs to Tennessee. There will be growing pains all around this season, but in year two, we should win 8 or more IMO.

We have either hired Muschamp or Kirby. None of us know which. I would feel better with Mullen.

Kirby wasn't great the first year--did well last year with mostly Mark Richt healthy seniors. He's got incredible recruits, we'll see how he does as a coach with his own team. He may be Saban 2 and maybe not.

I know Phil Steele said we have the easiest SEC schedule, but I disagree. I think Georgia has a much easier schedule. We have West Virginia and Alabama (and them) they have us, Georgia Tech and LSU.

"7.5 win".......at Mississippi State. not exactly the hotbed of college athletics.

This was discussed ad nauseum when he was under consideration. In his first 6 years or so, the requirement to play a P5 OOC opponent was not in effect. He mostly played 4 cupcakes.

I think he's a very good coach. At UF, he just needs to show me that he is a championship coach (and I hope he doesn't).

Y’all talking big games now but come August and you’ll be on the 15-0 train with me.

You make a good point. They also get Auburn at home whereas we play them on the road.

Preseason ranking of 13 in the SEC, and you'd think most would have learned that lesson.

No doubt. The fbi had a mole and a wire and couldn’t get him. The Knox media isn’t gonna get him with an open records request.

There are two ways to penalize criminal actors in a white collar federal probe. One is what you have seen played out in court with Pilot employees. The other involves marginal cases that could result in a not guilty verdict that may have political and/or broader reaching overtones. The later is handled through civil settlement instead of criminal methods. The party being investigated is offered a deal to buy his/her way out writing a check and the settlement is sealed at the federal level with no further repercussions.

JMO and if I had to float a theory that makes the most sense from what I have observed; Jimmy wrote a big time check to avoid criminal prosecution through the civil settlement method that was probably used by the DOJ to complete the investigation and criminal prosecution of the bad actors in his own company with whom he was complicit. Pilot also honored their agreement to provide free legal assistance to those charged despite their obvious attempts to lay the blame off on him.

I was told many years ago by a prominent, now deceased, attorney that we can thank Slick Willie Clinton for that method advancing in the legal community. Imagine that.
