I think some of the doom and gloom prognosticators saying we will be lucky to win 5 games this Fall are putting way to much weight into the 4-8 record from last year. Is going 4-8 pathetic and representative of the team and coaching staff from last year? Definitely. Is it a good way to predict what will happen this year? Not necessarily.

I think going solely off the 4-8 record is looking at things as being only "black & white". Just look at those games, we were a couple of plays away from beating Florida, Carolina & Kentucky. That could have turned 4-8 into 7-5 real quick. Thank goodness it didn't, because I think our staff now is much better than the previous one.

However, my point is that if Pruitt & Co. are as much of an improvement over the previous staff that most of us expect, we should be expecting a floor of 6-6. The team itself lost a couple of guys in Gaulden and Kelly that I think hurt. Other than that, not much lost in terms of talent.

I realize we have plenty of holes on both sides of the ball, but in no way is our talent below that of either Kentucky, Vandy or Mizzou. Probably on par with Florida and Carolina. A competent staff in charge of a well-prepared and disciplined team should win at least 6, if not possibly 7 or 8.

P.S. Go Vols and Catbone sucks.

How do you come to the conclusion that the OL is in better shape than when Kiffin was here? This is the worst UT OL I have ever seen...Trey Smith was the only player worth a crap on the line and we don't have a clue if he is going to be available.

SIAP but Kiffin’s line started 2 way undersized wall ons and a true freshman RT. I’m worried about this line too but that line was pretty underwhelming.

Just looking on the Recruiting forum, it's doesn't appear to have much discussion about any QB's in the '19 class (besides the Howell kid). The recruiting sites don't have any QB's listed as real possibilities for UT. I know it's still early, but is that great concern for any of you?

Also...any under the radar qb's that any of you know about that UT may be looking at in '19 class. just curious.....

never mind......I was told to "read better":mf_surrender:

I still believe that Chryst was basically assured he will start at some point this year. Pruitt has seen JG first hand. Helton has seen Chryst. There’s a reason we wanted him and he came here after 1 visit.

Then we’re back to the original conflict...

Read better. Several QB’s we’re pursuing.

Would be shocked if Pruitt/Helton assured either guy a starting role before having either one go through practices being coached by this staff.

Chryst was promised a chance to compete for a starting job at an SEC school. That's why he came. No assurance that the job was his. All about competition. Simple as that.

Wisconsin promised Russel Wilson the job and it worked out great for them.

How do you KNOW this and what were their options? IIRC he was an All-American who was cut loose by NC State because he wouldn’t give up baseball. You equate CHRYST to that?

WOW! you're right!!!!:worship:

Of the last 100 threads that have a post.... 3 are about a '19 QB and 1 '20.......... I had no idea we had that much interest!

We will be turning qb's down before long

It’s because i know what it’s like to recruit Jucos and Grad Transfers in multiple sports. Guys mostly go to places that give them the path to get clock. Same thing with Auburn and cam newton coming out judo and Chad kelly with ole miss.

Just to be clear, by “we” you do mean Florida State?

Once again, you’re REALLY comparing Cam Newton and Chad Kelly to KELLER CHRYST?

Never threw the word at you. Just because THIS BOARD isn’t talking 24/7/365 about QB offers doesn’t reflect the offers going out. Howell, Brachmeier and the Louisiana kid seem to be the early focus, but I see QB’s do the “blessed” thing on Twitter after Tennessee offers pretty frequently.

Thanks so much, just what I was looking for. I'm not on any other UT boards and don't have VIP on 247 so I'm getting only basic info about UT.

Tennessee returned to the practice field Thursday afternoon, as Jeremy Pruitt held his second workout of the spring.

Conditions were much more pleasant than Tuesday, as the Vols practiced under a cool, cloudless sky.

Here are VolQuest.com observations from Day 2…

* The David Johnson Hour. Tennessee’s new receivers coach is a pleasure to watch coach. He’s persistent, passionate but also positive with his guys. He’s been all over Marquez Callaway the last two days, working to bring the best out of Tennessee’s top playmaker from 2017.

Whether Johnson is teaching technique or effort, he is always harping on something.

“Wrists above your elbows.”

“Finish the route!”

“Don’t cheat yourself, treat yourself.”

“Don’t find a way out (of bounds), score it!”

* Couple other notables from the routes-on-air period Thursday: The QBs (especially Jarrett Guarantano) were much sharper. Guarantano pushed the ball nicely on a couple deep shots and showed smooth accuracy on some middle seams routes against Cover-3 looks. Very few balls hit the ground, with Jordan Murphy having one of the only drops. Several of the WRs flipped spots today, too, with Brandon Johnson moving inside while Josh Palmer flipped out wide to the Z.

* The running back group was the same as Tuesday: Ty Chandler, Trey Coleman, Princeton Fant and a bunch of walk-ons.

* Tracy Rocker really gets after his guys teaching, too. Two guys physically who stood out today were Eric Crosby, who has definitely changed his body, and Greg Emerson.

* Same as Tuesday, Tennessee lined up on the offensive line (L-R) with Drew Richmond, DeVante Brooks, Ryan Johnson, Riley Locklear and Marcus Tatum. Once again, Ollie Lane and Jerome Carvin were getting lots of work with multiple backup units.

* Chris Rumph was very vocal and hands-on with his OLBs today during a drill on reads. He made Darrell Taylor, Jordan Allen and a few others re-do the drill after messing up the first time. “Read the picture!”

* Was difficult to see much of the DBs today, but notably, Tyler Byrd was working with Charles Kelly and the safeties. Also, Cheyenne Labruzza was participating early in practice and was also with the safeties.

* Knoxville Catholic offensive linemen Bryn Tucker and Cooper mays watched practice.

* Along with Trey Smith, DJ Henderson, Todd Kelly and K’Rojhn Calbert, wideout Jauan Jennings was back at practice doing work on the side with his teammates.
