I don't think Fulmer will fire her, but there is a difference between a three year head coach (SEC coach of the year, SEC champions) losing and Holly losing with her all-Americans in her sixth?? year.

Massive difference in the level of programs they inherited too.

Night and day difference. A team full of overachieving 3 stars versus a team full of underachieving McDonald's all Americans. The loss from last night stings but a little perspective is in order.

I'm as disgusted as anyone, but UT won't fire Holly this year. She's a UT alum handpicked by Pat with a year left on her contract and a top 3 recruiting class on deck. She's an inexpensive coach in a non-revenue sport with the highest win % in SEC WBB. The math isn't hard.

Those ranked 3*s with the COTY and POTY lost to unranked 1*s while the LVs lost to a team ranked just below them. It's an extremely unfortunate and distasteful situation where UT will tread lightly and err on the side of caution-- unless Holly wants out.

Isn't WBB the second high grossing sport for UT?

I'm not saying they'll fire Holly, I agree with you they won't. I think we've got a whole new level of suckatude before that happens.

No, that's MBB. WBB is no longer revenue-producing, although UT was one of three WBB programs receiving more than $1M in designated donations. Those $$ have been slipping, however, and I would expect them to fall below $1M this year. I'll sadly do my part.

They have become the Loser Vols. Next year will be ugly. Sad to allow this to happen to Pat's program, but it's a trainwreck in motion-- and has been with Holly.

I'm done with BB for the year-- not watching another second of it.

They'll make a move when they hemorrhage more money. It'll be a financial decision as it always is.

They'll give her a soft landing at some point. She'll get an admin or emeritus position or retire. A former LV friend of mine says she's absolutely miserable. Everybody's miserable. UT sports are scraping along the bottom of the Pit of Misery.

I hope she is miserable. I've been miserable in my business. If you're miserable, you've got two choices, get out of it or improve it.

When she does move on, it'll be very telling how they perceive women's basketball by how they hire for it.

I was more fired up for the tournament this year than I have been in forever, but right after the loss last night I couldn’t even stand seeing highlights from another game.

I’m done with it for the year also.

I am not sure I see it this way. Men's basketball took a huge step forward this year. In that tweet a couple of weeks ago, how many spring sports were ranked? 6?

I know we are coming off our worst football year, and last night was tough. But as more time passes, I think big picture will show that most of the sports are improving or continuing its success. This basketball year was fun, and I am trying not to let a 1 point loss ruin that.

Obviously you never played sports at a high or even high school level. Guys can play hurt but can't play injured. To think he wants to sit on the bench during a NCAA tourney game and let his fellow team mates down is much more ridiculous than any other poster with comments taking up for Alexander. They wanted to win and are hurting bad right now. Fans like you are the kind that they would make fun of in the locker room. Grow up man and feel better. Oh, sorry I told you what to do and how to feel.
Damn, that's funny. Im over it. On to Preds and hockey and Braves baseball...and Vols baseball :'(

If she is really miserable, maybe she'll go ask Phil for that kind of position sooner (now?) instead of later?
Would that be possible?

I like Holly, but I think she is in a bit over her head.

Good. She should quit.

Remember when some of y'all scoffed at me when I said the lady Vols would lose in the first two rounds?

I said the same thing.

As you know I have been right there with you. It's awful. Any decently coached team with mediocre or better talent that can play zone on D can beat them. It's been that way since she took over.

They have to decide if they want to drive the revenue up to close the gap on revenue losses by hiring a better, more expensive coaching staff - or just let it go. If the former I'm calling Walz at Louisville.

I wish she would work out a deal and allow us to hire a new HC, too. The program needs new leadership. But I think she's pulling a Butch and saying she needs an extension for recruiting and claiming that recruiting is the answer. Clueless people seldom realize they're in over their head-- they always think something other than their own ineptitude is creating the problems and hope next year will be better. IDT the admin can get a louder series of wake-up calls than they've been getting.

I'm on the downside of basketball watching myself. But I sure am enjoying ESPN's favorite tar hill blue elites getting thrashed by an SEC #7 seed in aTm.
