Mass shooting of the week, high school in parkland, FL.

All one has to do is watch the video and see the “kid” getting coached by CNN.

In the wake of the Florida shooting, Facebook and Google spread conspiracy theories. Again. - Feb. 21, 2018

When Facebook (FB) inadvertently promoted conspiracy theories shared by users following a recent Amtrak crash, the company said it was "going to work to fix the product."

When Google (GOOGL) shared a conspiracy theory in its search results after a mass shooting last year in Texas, the company said it would "continue to look at ways to improve."

And when Google's YouTube spread conspiracy theories in the aftermath of the devastating shooting in Las Vegas, the video service decided to update its algorithm to prevent it from happening again.

But then it did happen again.

On Wednesday, YouTube and Facebook were each forced to issue yet another mea culpa for promoting conspiracy theories about David Hogg, a student who survived the mass shooting at a Florida high school last week.

The top trending video on YouTube early Wednesday suggested in all capital letters that Hogg, who has emerged as a leading voice for gun control since the shooting, was actually an "actor."

....The right will feed their base any kind of conspiracy and they will latch onto it like it is gospel. The people behind creating and disseminating these conspiracies have to be laughing their a$$es off. Especially the Russians. (they have supposedly been very active on the pro gun front)

Not according to the current assault weapon bill ban in the state of Florida. Defeated by a 2:1 margin just yesterday.

The only shifting Tide is moving the pod to the other jaw when it comes to weapon bans.

Actually one of the FL repubs. stated it would be discussed and debated thoroughly in committee. (I'll believe it when I see it because it's a heavy repub majority...but there is that groundswell to consider)

question for you luther, did Fox give honest assessments of Obama? or did they try and push some sort of slanted view. And lastly, would you take their word on Obama?

The in no way gave an honest assessment.

They were completely slanted and biased.

I would never take their word on Obama.

Now it Fox was as legitimate of a news source as CNN, MSNBC, and other mainstream media outlets, it would have been a different story.

Fox is universally recognized as the worst....except by that segment that thinks it is not.

I'll avoid the abrasiveness while agreeing the meme quote that you responded to is incorrect. I have spent time going through the numbers from the CDC and FBI crime statistics. The US homocide rate by gun is substantially higher than other industrialized countries.

Here is the "but." A major problem with the US rate is the homocide rate among young black males (number one cause of death I believe) and, when I studied it, excluding blacks dropped the US gun homocide rate into the middle of the pack.

Now, the "study" was mine, based on CDC and FBI statistics readily available. So not interested in arguing whether my "study" is correct or not. The stats are out there for anyone to perform their own and there are probably more recent numbers available than the ones I used from at least a year or two ago.

We do have somewhat unique racial and social aspects to American society that differ from other industrialized nations. Whatever the cause, because of the substantial statistical difference, for the sake of this discussion I think comparing non-black rates to the world is a legitimate comparison.

Lol. You can't drop a whole part of the country to try and fudge the numbers. I guess we can drop white males and our domestic terrorism and mass shooting numbers will be better now too. Not to mention rape, pedophilia, arson, fraud, assault etc.

And I guess if you were doing that you should just say poor males. Different races in the US commit the same rate of crime when income is factored in. So yes if you drop poor people the rates would go down. But then again without all the poor people and black people who built the country we probably wouldn't be counted as a wealthy nation.

I'm actually against most gun control. But America has higher murder and suicide rates than other countries with less guns. Australia saw a drastic reduction in suicides when gun control was implemented.

I've previously stated that I think gun control is going after the instrument rather than the cause. That said, I'm curious to hear from owners or proponents what practical use an AR-15 has outside of killing mass numbers of people? Honest question. Personally, I don't own any guns. Just never have been interested in owning one. I'm not anti-gun, though.

And the outlets you identify with are straight as an arrow?

Gimme a friggin’ break.

You’re a rabble rouser.

You are actually denying that the vote took place and that it’s done? Pretty sure I saw a quote from the bills sponsor that said it’s dead.

They’re great for taking out wild hogs. They’re fun for target practice. They’re one of the best weapons you can have for home defense.

If I can demonstrate the same kill rate with a regular ole wooden stock semi auto or even a bolt action are you willing to consider our argument it really really has nothing to do with the gun.

Edit: but as far as use they are extremely utilitarian. I have two and with the modifications available you can configure them for nearly any task. With an AR15 (.223 Remington) and AR10 (.308 Winchester) you have incredible application flexibility and can hunt anything from small game thru small dangerous game (big cats).

That I have them. Whatever they are. And because you are afraid of daylight and have your head sucked inside your shell does nothing to diminish my rights.

Can you understand that this time?

That is so stupid.

The people living in terror and paranoia, the one scared of the dark with their heads sucked into their shells are the ones who feel they need an arsenal because some bad guy might come to their house or the government might try to be mean to them, or they are scared to walk down a city street without a concealed handgun.

That's the scared of their shadow segment of society.

And you guys like to act so tough and macho....can you say overcompensate? Is there a type C personality?

Oh this is delicious.

'Need' has nothing to do with it. That is a liberal thing.

I don't know what an arsenal is. I have 3 weapons and 1 is government issued. I guess to a chicken**** liberal THAT is an arsenal.

I don't have a ccw.

Oh and none of this had ANYTHING to do with the conversation Mick and I were having. You should try reading for a change

CNN is credible. If not, show me where what I linked is false. If you can't, then CNN was spot on...once again.

I think what we're seeing is that the right is spoon fed conspiracy theories like a baby being fed dinner.

Ratings have nothing to do with truth in reporting, if it did we would all be getting our news from "This Is Us", "Young Sheldon", and "The Big Bang Theory." Granted, all 3 would be better sources than Fox.

But were talking about news Luther not TV shows. Knock, knock......

He does. He likes the punishment. Its weird but funny to watch.

Edit: I almost think he really leans right because of the softball arguments he makes. Its like he just sits them up on a tee for everyone to knock out of the park. He really helps out the rights arguments more so than the left.

Its almost a genius tactic if you think about. I mean we're not going to argue with ourselves.

Florida Republicans Face Mounting Pressure to Act on Gun Control - The New York Times

With about two weeks left in the legislative session, Republicans led by Mr. Scott have concluded that it would be politically catastrophic if they failed to do something to address the growing outcry. But they appear likely to pursue legislation narrower than what students are demanding, avoiding a ban on assault weapons.

In the Florida House and Senate, lawmakers said they were involved in bipartisan efforts to craft gun-related legislative proposals that could be introduced Friday or earlier.

State Senator Bill Galvano, a Republican, said in an interview that the Senate proposal would likely involve raising the age to purchase semiautomatic rifles to 21 from 18; introducing a three-day waiting period to purchase such guns; banning “bump stocks,” an attachment that enables a semiautomatic rifle to fire faster; and expanding the power of law enforcement to restrict the actions of mentally ill people under Florida’s Baker Act.

“Nothing about this is par for the course,” Mr. Galvano said. “We’ve had one too many horrific incidents in this country and really around the world. And to have this tragedy occur here in the State of Florida has in some ways been very sobering.”

It's called a groundswell.....silly kids.
