Apples and oranges.

Ever had a job? Did you know what went on at the office?

Totally different than assuming an entire fanbase thoughts.

No it’s really not.

You’re assuming a large group of people thought a certain way after chastising posters for assuming a large group of people thought a certain way. I mean people are typically hypocritical on here but it’s rare that it happens in the same thread a few minutes apart. It’s why I suspected it was intentional.

I’ll drop it, just humerous. Carry on.

This wasn't a guy going to prison or even losing his job. This was a guy trying to get a new job. The threshold of evidence is way, way lower for making a new hire.

The most surprising thing was how tone-deaf Curry was on so many levels.

To me, the toxic nature of his NFL time, is almost as damaging as his potential involvement with the PSU stuff. I agree about the threshold of evidence required and just how stupid Currie was.

Well, I have to respond to you calling me a hypocrite.

I am basing my statement that people at PSU knew about it off of SWORN testimony, the fact that they were punished, statues removed etc., along with 30 years of working and knowing that things like that don’t go on in your workplace that you don’t know about. People knew. Joe Pa knew, assistant coaches knew, administrators knew. If you don’t believe that then you are being intentionally obtuse or you are very naive.

You and ziti are basing your statements of “the vast majority didn’t care or know about the PSU stuff” off what exactly?

The majority of those who have commented about it on here were “outraged” by the PSU stuff. The opposite of what you are claiming. As Jave said, we’ve had poor hires before and the fanbase didn’t revolt.

This board does not make up the majority of the fan base though. The posters who frequent the recruiting forum are typically some of the most informed fans we have.

As to not revolting before, it was the straw that broke the camel's back and Schiano came with an eject button that was easy for the fan base to hit.

I’m not claiming to know what most thought or knew. I’m refuting your claim that you do know what the “vast majority” thought or knew.

So, in a figurative sense, what does "everyone" mean exactly?

This is a message board epidemic. Literally everyone :)))blames all the people of a particular conglomeration when they actually mean some set of that conglomeration.

"All of VN was singing his praises"
"Everyone on this board said he was gonna..."
"Ya'll all said X. I was the only one saying Y."
"Everyone was slamming me when I said Z."

And one of my favorites (though slightly different): "The same posters that said X back then are the ones saying Y now."

Literally. Everyone. :p

That's fine. It's an opinion because it can't be proven.

I think you believe the average vol fan is more informed than they actually are. The posters on this board don't represent the makeup of the fan base or the social media mob that took down schiano.

I was a Schiano fan when he was at Rutgers, and I'd have been content with him as a football coach for the most part. Once the PSU stuff came out though, I didn't want him anywhere near our program. I believe he's probably innocent, but I want the face of my program to be beyond suspicion when it comes to something that heinous.

Didn’t like his Tampa run, but I’m pretty much right with you on how I rolled on Schiano.

As soon as I heard the PSU stuff, didn’t want that stink near us and forwarded info to all my Vol friends

I 100% believe in innocent until proven guilty. There wasn’t even a charge against him or really an alligation. Just a rumor that the one who they claimed started it, said under oath he didn’t even say it.

Now that’s out of the way. I was 100% against the hire. He would have been worse than Dooley. He’s an ass who doesn’t get along with many. Then all the SEC coaches would have used the NFL players claims of abusive coaching against him. They would also use the PSU rumors against him. He would have put us below Vandy in the SEC in three years and we would be hiring again.

Accurate on all accounts.

Outside of Schiano and maybe one or two other people, no one knows what really went down, and no one ever will.

My take is that it really doesn't matter if he knew what what was going on at PSU or not. By hiring him, we would be tying that albatross around our neck. If he knew and did nothing about it, countless children were raped because he was too big of a coward to do the right thing (or worse, he just didn't care). Having that person as our HC is unacceptable to me. If, as Schiano claims, he knew nothing, by hiring him we would still be defined as the program whose head coach enabled the child molester in the worst scandal in college football history. That is also unacceptable to me.

And I didn't know about his connection to the PSU scandal or the allegations of player abuse early on. I actually posted on here a couple of times that I thought he would be a good HC because he won at Rutgers for crying out loud. When other posters filled me on the PSU stuff, I was out.

What would things look like today if we ended up with Schiano?

Two of my Dads uncles were in the Battle of Athens.

I have family that lives near that area, but I didn't find out about the rigging that led to the Battle of Athens until recently when I came across a video about corrupt government overreach where the speaker recommended viewers look it up for more info near the end of the video:
