stock market was up today...

Gsus fiking youknowwho, no one is seizing your 401k to butress pension plans.
maybe, but I wouldn't doubt they would try to seize them for the general fund and dole them out to those of us that earned them...as they see fit. you are nuts if you don't think the idea has been floated in DC.

Winn-Dixie stores are filthy for the most part.
Publix is kicking their arse all over the southeast!!
Whole Foods has taken a nice share of the market.
Winn-Dixie sat on their business plan far too long and is now the odd man out.

I'll go to Winn Dixie if I want to feel what its like to be poor.

A brand new Publix just opened near me. I would also like to see a Harris Teeter nearby.

Town in Middle TN with less than 20,000 people is getting a free standing brand new Publix.

I submit that this IS a sign of a booming economy. People are willing to pay more for cleaner stores with better CS.

Piggly Wiggly is joining them......"Big Harry Wiggly Teeters".....
I think I messed up the joke. It was Dolly Parton buying Big Lots, Piggly Wiggly, and Harris Teeter, then merging them to become Dolly's Big Wiggly Teeters. I heard the joke about 20 years ago, and forgot parts.

That's cause Winn Dixie sucks. And there's Dixie in it's name (racist!), so there's that. A lot of malls are hurting as tenants fail and move out but I think this is more related to AMZN dominance in online retail. They're killing typical retail stores. Costco as a big box has a great biz model and doing well as is Wal Mart and Target. Kroger, Publix, Whole Foods and one or two others just seem to dominate the grocery space.

WalMart dominates grocery sales. In 2016, Walmart accounted for 25% of grocery sales in the U.S, and had larger sales than the next 6 chains put together.

1) WMT $362 billion
2) Kroger $110 billion
3) Costco $86 billion

Publix had about $30+billion I think, and Whole Foods about $15 billion. Albertson's, Delhaize (Food Lion), and Aldi were ahead of Publix and Whole Foods if my memory is correct.

Publix is expensive. Or so my wife says. The only WD we had around us closed 10 years ago. I wouldn't go into the grocery business for anything.

It’s more expensive. It’s so much nicer there and I feel like I can actually eat the fruit.

I was at Publix earlier and their half priced items were everything I normally get.

Score.
