Mass shooting of the week, high school in parkland, FL.

I tried debating this issue with you months age when I first came to the political forum. I realized quickly that my lack of gun knowledge (especially compared to yours) was going to delegitimize my opinions and positions in the minds of most.

Many posters on here have spent lots of time building the case to support their beliefs. There is nothing I, nor anyone else can say to change their opinion.

Off the cuff, I would say ban everything but basic hunting rifles and shotguns. Maybe have some special process that is very well regulated where people can get a handgun. I would ban anything that has the capability of firing multiple rounds in a short period of time. I would put a limit on the number of guns that could be purchased in a given time frame. I know nothing about ammunition, but anything that can penetrate armor should probably be banned. Anything designed to cause great damage to the body (and is not legitimately used for hunting) should probably be banned.

So...

Full ban and confiscation?

I almost quoted him and ripped up that entire last paragraph as it’s the same complete lack of knowledge that always comes out.

The exact weapon he said was ok is the same weapon I said is my most lethal one. My deer rifle. Most accurate and deadly weapon in my possession

Now. Ammunition. Hollow points began life as hunting ammo. The current self defense ammo evolved from this basic round. They are designed to maximize soft tissue damage and blood loss. And, again, this is the ammo allowed as ok?

Until a knowledgeable argument on the technology is put forth on what they want banned they will not be taken seriously.

I think that's a federal requirement.

Ask yourself why there is a difference in age fit buying a handgun compared to a rifle.

One is simply intended for hunting while the other is intended for concealment and protection.

You outkicked your coverage, GV. He can’t answer such a challenging question.

I'm not sure confiscating what is already out there is feasible. A standing offer to buy back would help some. I'm not sure what you mean by full ban. If you make a type of gun or ammo illegal, then it should not be sold. Anything that lessons the amount of guns circulating throughout our society would appear to be a positive.

Have you considered stand up?

Who pays for that buy back?

Who pays for that buy back?

I’m more curious as to what makes him think the nut jobs are going to run down there and turn in their illegally obtained wespons?

Does this dumb **** think a buy back would have stopped the shooting in Florida?

I read his **** and wonder why freak allows him to waste his bandwidth...

And I say its hilarious, because it would just encourage guns in the hands of unstable people.

The question was do you agree with that requirement and do you think it should be expanded to cover the type of weapon used in FL.

Handguns are more commonly used in the commission of crimes. I think the feeling is that the overall threat to society is greater from the constant use of handguns in crimes than in the bi-monthly massacre of innocent people. (at least among the 18-21 year old range)

I actually once turned in a firearm to the local police. My wife had a small 380 auto given to her by her ex. Made by Jennings Firearms aka “Jammin’ Jennings” as they were called. I told them to melt the damn thing down before it blew up in somebody’s hand. It was a bigger hazard to the person behind the muzzle. The officer laughed and agreed.

And that is the only firearm I will willingly give up.

I may or may not have done some things that I'm not proud of when it comes to one person owning a firearm, and then another person owning it.

See, your gun knowledge is deluding you into thinking that your opinion is correct. How many deer rifles have been used in mass casualty events in the last 5 years? The last thing you desire is a reasonable debate. It's much easier to hide behind your superior knowledge of guns and use that as a basis to convince yourself that your opinions are more valid.

Not in the last 5 years, but google Charles Whitman. That happened when I was in high school.

Bull crap. Once intent is decided the instrument will be whatever is convenient. What happened at that school could easily have been achieved with a pistol or deer rifle. Remember the DC shooter? THAT is scary as hell. How long did it take to catch those two?!

I completely welcome a reasonable debate. And that debate is going to have to include some damn knowledge on the items you want to debate. To date I have not heard such a debate. Yet. And I really wish one would happen.

Maybe we should just have a stickied mass shooting thread where all of the gun talk can fester from shooting to shooting. We can also have a stickied thoughts and prayers thread, because that does as much good as arguing about gun control.

Only surpassed by the Phoenix Arms Raven for unreliability.
