Mass shooting of the week, high school in parkland, FL.

At this point, its going to be very difficult to have any sort of reasonable discourse on what the hell is going on.

I used to think gun control would help. I believe I was mistaken.

Feels like we may be in the middle of a divergent psychological mutation.
Almost like we've beaten back on so many diseases that random chance has given us a curveball.

I think it may just be over population. There have always been people like this guy or the gang bangers that don't care avout anyone else but now they have "coverage" and social media, which is the devil... Volnation of course is fine... I really have no answers it is just depressing. It would be great if a country wide adult conversation could happen. We need more community leaders as well. Hell I could go on but whisky and fast cars on TV are calling my name.

Addressed how? Ban all guns?

Not going to happen.

No one has said anything about banning all guns.

That's a ridiculous scare tactic that the right wing media has implanted in its followers.

Rational gun laws and regulation are NOT banning all guns.

If the age to purchase a firearm was changed to 21. Would that satisfy the gun debate?

Criminals tend to not obey laws so I don’t see how laws prevent criminal acts. Would it help in mental illness cases? Don’t know. But even then we already have rules about gun purchasing for people with a history of mental illness.

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t have an answer. Because I absolutely believe you will never ever disarm law abiding people of North America. And the criminals could care less about the law to begin with.

I have two AR15s. And I think the most dangerous weapons in my possession are a) my .30-06 deer rifle and b) my glock .40 pistol.

I could drop a bunch of people easily at 300 yds all day long with my deer rifle. And it could go on indefinitely. And with my pistol I can walk around amongst people all day long and if I ever developed the INTENT to use it, out it comes and pow.

Guns really don’t kill people. People actually kill people with guns. Any gun.

Our population is one of the biggest problems. Another huge problem is that our country is so great. Our immigration situation is yet another problem. The fact that mist will have to realize that like healthcare, there is no real solution to the gun debate.

I think that your .30-06 has about the same muzzle energy as your 2 AR-15s put together.

Luther, do you think they should ban entire classes of firearms?

If so, which ones?

And carries it down range longer depending on charge and bullet choice. But ballistics have no place in an irrational “let’s just ban some random gun type” argument.

Listen this is a huge issue. I’m not saying it isn’t. I honestly see no solution. But I absolutely see that random gun type banning is completely moronic. Guns kill when they are used. All guns. Not just AR15s

Of course not, but it may be a step in the right direction. Evidently in Florida you already have to be 21 to buy a hand gun. Is that horrible of rational?

Nuclear bombs don't kill people, people dropping nuclear bombs kill people.

Anthrax doesn't kill people, people exposing others to anthrax kill people.

Stupidity doesn't kill people.....wait a minute, maybe it does.

I don't have a problem with changing age requirements for certain weapons but we all know what liberals really want.

Actually I think liberals do want the exact same thing that conservative gun enthusiasts want. (Edit: in these specific instances anyways. I think the general disarmament is a separate debate but they are of course related.) Nobody and I mean absolutely no body wants mass shootings to continue. Neither group wants that and if it were to stop both groups would get along.

But neither group will ever EVER agree on what role the instrument plays in the actual act. And until the conversation changes the stalemate will continue.

Its deeper than just the gun debate.

We are a species that is far more adept at destroying each other than we are at solving social ills.

Its sad, but its important to remember that we are writing the textbook on this. We don't have an example to follow.

Its easy to get jaded and just give up, but we ARE trying.

The new "World's dumbest argument".

And you can’t refute it, lucifer!!!!

You have no answers for the problem, other than muh guns. I don’t even take you serious. I purposefully look for holes in everything you post, and most times, I don’t have to look very hard. You flop all over the place and make it quite easy.

I posted this earlier, but I’ll leave it here for your viewing pleasure.

Each of these are distinctly independent but have significantly overlapping themes:

-Mental illness
-Media coverage
-Societal/cultural indoctrination
-LEO/FBI inaction

and I’ll add....

-Poor parenting/lack of discipline/consequential reprimand

If you want to have an honest debate, then start at the roots, not the branches. Muh guns won’t solve a damn thing, and if you don’t believe me, go try to confiscate them. Happy confiscating!

I hear you. And what I’m saying is change the damn dialogue on the conversation because the worn out ones we always use go no where and will go no where here either. It’s a very very difficult issue.

I tried debating this issue with you months age when I first came to the political forum. I realized quickly that my lack of gun knowledge (especially compared to yours) was going to delegitimize my opinions and positions in the minds of most.

Many posters on here have spent lots of time building the case to support their beliefs. There is nothing I, nor anyone else can say to change their opinion.

Off the cuff, I would say ban everything but basic hunting rifles and shotguns. Maybe have some special process that is very well regulated where people can get a handgun. I would ban anything that has the capability of firing multiple rounds in a short period of time. I would put a limit on the number of guns that could be purchased in a given time frame. I know nothing about ammunition, but anything that can penetrate armor should probably be banned. Anything designed to cause great damage to the body (and is not legitimately used for hunting) should probably be banned.

Agreed. See my edit above. Yes I do believe the liberal agenda of public disarmament is real. And at odds with conservatives.

The 'liberal agenda' isn't a thing of the people, so much as it is a general government stance.

There are a lot of left wingers who do support insane laws on guns, but they're just a bunch of dupes.

Neither side has presented a compelling argument yet.
