Recruiting Forum Football Talk LVI

I'm not implying we should be recruiting at Georgia/Alabama level I'm just relaying the facts of how are situation is. If we wanted to close the gap we had to get players like Griffin, walker, and ITS.

People talk about next year and how strong we will be in recruiting. If we have another crappy year opposing coaches are going to use this to out recruit them again. Most of these kids want to go to winners and sadly we are not there. If we have a good/great year we could see a monster year in recruiting. Its easy to be a top recruiter when you're on championship teams year in year out. What's it going to be like when you're not a winner? We shall see

How's Mullen doing? He's my benchmark for how we should he doing this year. Not following nsd closely this year, I'll check scoreboard tonight.

What are they going to do if everyone qualifies? Someone will get released from his LOI. Wonder if these kids realize this? Didn’t know you could sign potential non-qualifiers, and then if they don’t qualify, they don’t count against the class.

Who knows what the recruits actually signed though? Maybe they're using flexible scholarships. Smart could be promising future scholarships to some or planning on sending a few to JUCO for a year. They'll be at 25/85 by summer.

Really? unequivocally? There is literally "no doubt"? That is a high standard.
It was a dead period so it’s not like they could have visited or hosted any recruits. They both recruited while they were at bama and UGA. Maybe they could have spent more time of the phones but watching our next head coach dominate Clemson and have a great 4th quarter against UGA outweighs that to me. We got good publicity from that and Pruitt showed that he’s serious when he says he’s in this business for the players

I'm simply stating that those expectations to land players of that caliber isn't very realistic given the situation (early signing period, 0-8 conference record, etc.).

We are in the same situation as any program rebuilding. Your first priority is to have success on the field. Maybe if we start to win a game here or there that we aren't supposed to, our fortunes will change.

If we take one game out of the UF, UGA, Auburn, Bama stretch, that would be a solid start. Ideally, we need to win the rest.

I think it was realistic looking at our current staff. They have been recruiting these kids for years. No matter what people say the recruits choose schools because of the coach not the school. And with our coaches reputation as recruiters I thought we would get at least those 3.

I don't think we are in the same situation as most rebuilds because we have been rebuilding for 11 years now. We got close with Dobbs, Kamara, and Barnett but Butch couldn't sustain his recruiting success it got worse every year. With his attrition he had to keep us in that top 5 and when the Juniors left and those low ranked players from the last two years 14th and 17th ranked classes had to play you get 2017.

IDGAF if we lose out on these people. We're getting kids who literally bleed orange. One commits without visiting campus. One straight up proclaims he will literally give his all for Tennessee. Yet all I see are pieces of S*** complaining we didn't get someone. All of you have absolutely NO RIGHT to celebrate with this team during the good time if you can't celebrate with them during the bad times.

Shut the hell up with that bull butter. "But, but we're getting kids who bleed orange, and, and this one guy said he'll give his all for Tennessee." That's great and all, but there's a reason why they got last minute offers.

I know most are of the opinion that Pruitt is a dynamite recruiter and he may be. But it’s much easier to recruit to Alabama, FSU, and UGA than it is here. I’m gonna hold out judgement on that till next years class not this one.

Anyone that has publicly said they were a UT fan the past 10 years has every right to celebrate the good regardless of how happy or disappointed they are with this signing class.

UF fans are pretty happy so far. Slow nsd for them too tho, if they land copeland that would give them like 5/6 top 100 players

Not allowed. Initial counters count towards the 25. Your theory dates back to the 50’s

I'm still of that belief Smokey. Doesn't change the fact that today has been a disappointment.

I am too, but there's a feeling among some in this forum that you must act disappointed and cannot express any sort of understanding as to why today may not have gone well that goes beyond some sort of foreshadowing of this staff's future recruiting failures. That's BS, in my opinion.

People keep talking about reality. The reality is that we aren't going to compete with Georgia/Bama/OSU in recruiting until we start competing with them on the field. That should be obvious after today's fiasco.

Acting like it's some massive shortcoming by the staff becuase we didn't beat them out on the recruiting trail after their national title appearance isn't reality, as much as some of you want to claim so; it's just unwarranted pessimism.

Gotta agree with this.

I love that some of these kids are living their dreams and will literally go to war for UT. It's great. I am legit happy for them.

But I'm not exactly happy for the program, or fans. Come October when there is roster issues, UGA and Bama steamroll us again, and we are staring at 4th or worst in the east, I doubt many of the fans will be saying "Hey...no worries...its all good, we got players that want to be here and they are living their dream".

With the way the coaching search went down and all the delays during it are the reason this class tells us nothing of this staffs ability to recruit.

Had they announced Pruitt the day they tried turning us into the browns proving grounds then they may have had a shot of pulling in a good class. But they tried giving us a cheap has been coach, then they let the AD go for awhile and finally after a whole fiasco we get Pruitt weeks later, way behind the curve with only a prayer of getting a good class

I was more implying Butch tanked 2017 and screwed us over

But we had a highly ranked class. Are we better off now with the coaching and teaching that’s been added? I say yes. And I’m interested in the classes of the “splash hires” like Kelly,Frost and (to some) Leach. When the season went belly up, I conceded that this year’s class would suffer with the change...and it did. We’ll see what these guys do with the talent available. I’m excited for that unknown.

Then what? Interested in our choices. What’s the response desired by you realists? Not being confrontational, genuinely curious what the perfect answer would read like.

Why would a high tier recruit who could sign anywhere and get playing time choose to wait or go juco? Not buying that...
