Defensive Backs

Yup, the secondary really should be that good considering all four starters are pro prospects. CB D.J. Moore should start to get recognition as one of the nation's best all-around corners, while Myron Lewis is a big corner who can handle himself well. The safety tandem of Reshard Langford and Ryan Hamilton can hit like a ton of bricks and should be even more effective against the pass. The depth is there at all four spots.

I think that South Carolina has a pretty nice secondary...Miss St. too. Vandy is a surprise, but maybe we choose to ignore. I hope we're pretty good...but we've got some young guys who still have some things to learn. I'm just trying not to get too excited about our secondary this year....I don't want to be that let down if it doesn't work out!

Interesting considering Vandy is ranked 5th/6th respectively by Athlon and Lindy's while we are ranked 2nd and 3rd.

These kind of things don't matter much (some would argue at all) but it does show how when you get down to it there's really not much more going on than a bunch of guys getting paid to throw out opinions.

I would feel better if Vinson had of went through spring drills, especially since he's a WR playing DB.

Me too....but he'll still get the fall, right? And...he has more starts under his belt than Willingham and I think Johnson.

i think we are rated so low b/c they see morley not playing last yr and they dont know about willingham or vinson or rogan b/c there so young... i think we end up as having the best secondary in the sec and a top 5 in the nation

yes, i totally agree....we have the BEST secondary in the SEC, and one of the best in the friggin' county, sons.......we have soo many players, it's nuts!!

I would say that the biggest problem is that we've almost got TOO many great players, so some of them will probably get some looks at safety, as backups, and also in the nickel, and dime packages, called like Mustang, or something.......

hopefully Chavis is not a *** this year, and uses the BLITZKRIEG strategy like almost every down, like in the good ole days, when we used to jump around like a pack of wild Hyenas, and casue severe MAYHEM, HOHOHOHO!!!!

I'm really excited about Morley this year but I hope he's gotten better at pass coverage. If I remember correctly, this was his weakest area of play.

Absolutely. This is the biggest question mark, IMO. I think that Willingham and Vinson/Rogan can handle the corners fairly well. Berry gave some interviews this weekend that would make you think that Willingham is a true lockdown corner now....to the point that Eric said he could take gambles on coverage....which I hope is true. But, we know that at times Berry missed coverage last year and he IS NOT a seasoned veteran (despite his amazing talent). We really need Morely to show a better ability at pass coverage...and even Berry despite his amazing freshman campaign (which I expect he will improve upon) in order for us to have the best secondary in the SEC. Morely is who I wonder about...

When I read that Berry is quicker and stronger after hitting the weight room, I visualized all-american type plays in every game. If he gets any quicker and stronger, I feel sorry for the receivers that will be on the receiving end of his hits.

Just another example of why College Football News is an abject joke.

Well Wisconsin is ranked 12 and we are ranked 18 although we beat them in the Outback Bowl, We are picked to finish 3rd in the east although we won it last year, and to top it all off, we have this.

We have the potential to have an amazing secondary, so far that's it. They will be really good, most likely great. Gotta get some experience first though, which IMO is why we aren't ranked that high.

I agree with you 100% I hope Morley has a great year! He was a little rusty in coverage but he can lay a hit. So if he got better in coverage then we have some hard hitting secondary players. And your right about Willingham even Fulmer said in his history of coaching he has never seen a player come around and become so aware of his position and understanding of how to play it. I bet he will be a lock down corner. And if he is then its gonna make Chavis life a lot better this year. But I really believe we have a great Secondary and it will not be talked about until they see it in action.

LESS THEN A MONTH GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can say there are other weaknesses on our team, but not secondary. I mean, Berry is amazing. nuff said. Morley has all-american type talent. Vinson does too. And they say Willingham is going to be a shut-down corner. This group will be one of the tops in the land.

Nope. He was a CB playing WR. His improvement had as much to do with UT's overall improvements last year as any single player.

when you talk about the secondary as a whole, who knows........some teams may have better DB's than us........but i would think you're going to be hard pressed to find a better set of safeties.

it'll all play out.......besides, it's a CFN pre season ranking........
