'18 GA LB Quay Walker (UGA signee)

and our situation was totally different. i'm interested to see how it changes for us come next december as well.

i'm sure everyone learned a lot this go around, and it'll be even a little more different next year.

i think at this point, most are going to be perfectly fine with getting 75-80% of their classes signed on the ESD. and likely to be the goal.

I think Pruitt going after some of the guys he is, knows well enough he probably will not get them. But it looks good for the future that UT is once a again becoming a hat on the table for so many top recruits. Pruitt is giving notice to everyone out there.

Not that we have a ton to go on, but Pruitt doesn't seem like the type of coach to do anything "for the optics." Straight-shooter, no frills, hard truths. I dig it.

I kind of get the same vibes from him as well. But he's smart and has a great reputation as a recruiter, homey might play dat game.

The teams that matter to us are getting their targets. The only way Pruitt is going to serve notice is by getting his targets.

we got a lot of our targets with CBJ too.

at some point, the aim had to be adjusted.

no one gets everyone they target. but, if you aren't looking at the same kids they are, then you definitely aren't going to get them.

at the end of the day, i think you're already seeing a difference in how TN is going to approach the types of players it wants, and in turn, given the staff we have now, to go along with all the ansiluray stuff we have going for us, the perception those kinds of recruits have of TN.

there's a pretty long list of guys that this staff has gotten to not only show interest, but also visit, during this cycle that the previous staff either wouldn't have tried for, or wouldn't have gotten a whiff from.

Staffs are trying to fill their remaining spots and usually with top players left out there. Every staff probably works the hardest in the month of January in regards to recruiting and adding someone like Pruitt to fight against does not make it easy. Pruitt may not get everyone he is going after but he is making other staffs work that much harder to close with the ones they want. Recruits are taking notice as well.

Really not hard to get guys to OV if you at least try. Pretty girls, SEC goes all out on OVs, treated like a king, pretty girls, party time, with pretty Southern girls.

If that isn’t enough, go the OM route and pay a kid 3k just to visit.

Surtain? Gump or Tiger?

LOL.

i get what you're saying, but for these top guys, they really are able to choose where they want to go, and aside from the few that just have their mind made up, most go on these ov's to help make that decision.

and to be part of that process, i think it says a lot that a kid would choose to come here, in less than a month of recruiting really, and at least see it to see if there is a chance they'd either change their mind or give them something to think about.

of course, there are those that just take all the visits because they can, so i get that too....

I guess but everyone that follows recruiting knows he is not going to be a part of the class at UA. I guess the early signing period will take away these big surprises of flips in the future. Any recruit not wanting to sign in December it shows the staff(unless academics are a concern) that they need to look for a replacement. At least with us that has been the case. When Walker and Jackson did not sign our staff wasted no time looking for other options for those spots.
Question for you

Coming from a Bama fan that has been around both
Who do you like better between Pruitt and Smart? And which one do you think is a better coach/recruiter.

If nothing else, a kid chose to use an OV at UT, instead of somewhere else.

Not sure which TW will say but the Bama boards are so butthurt over Smart it’s Updyke scary. They can’t stand he’s outrecruited them this year and that he doesn’t kiss the ring of Saban. They think Saban taught Kirby everything he knows and it has nothing to do with him being a coach’s son. He has said he got his football ‘knowledge’ from his dad. I’m sure he’s picked up some things from Saban on running a program and being a butthole to the media.

From UGA mods.

“All indications are that Walker still plans to spend the upcoming weekend in Athens for his official visit, but that’s the one piece of good news we’ve heard for Georgia in this race. Meanwhile, the Volunteers (Jeremy Pruitt and Kevin Sherrer in particular) have made a strong impression in this race. If he’s now torn between Tennessee and Georgia, Walker may well stick with what’s comfortable and familiar, which is Alabama. As of now, we’re not projecting Georgia to be the landing spot, but that could change based on this weekend’s trip. Last week’s projected coin-flip scenario for Georgia is downgraded.”
