The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

In 9mm do you pretty much go with +p for carry? Some think that matters while others think it just beats the gun up more with little advantage.

I've got a butt-ton of Remy Golden Saber in 124 grain I use, but will eventually change that over to the 124 grain standard HST.

You may have done what I did...there was a big sale on GS a few years back and I bought up quite a few boxes in various calibers. Now they've got the "Ultimate Defense" and "High Terminal Performance" lines about which I know basically nothing.

I stick with the 124 grain since my 9mm 1911s seem to like it.

Except the Kimber, which sucks at best on a good day. (won't hold open on last shot)

I try to stick to bonded Winchester Rangers in both the 9mm and .45. 147 grain for 9mm, 230 grain for the .45.

If I’m carrying a revolver, typically a .44 this time of year, I’ll use the buffalo bore 255 grain Keith load in the woods, and the Hornady 180 grain XTP round for the street.

I’m hearing great things about the Hornady FTX bullet.

That's interesting in how that's a very light for caliber bullet weight. I know a couple people who have extolled the virtues of the rifle version in the Leverevolution line. I picked up some 300gr to reload in .500 but haven't gotten around to that as yet.

Still, priceless.

I'm fine with wheel guns. Used to tote a Ruger SP101(?) .357 short barrel. That was my ankle gun, but then I noticed that I kept running in circles on foot chases and decided to go with a smaller auto in a vest tuck.

Have a good weekend, GV. I'm hoping to expend a lot of ammo tomorrow, but right now it's raining, and the temp is forecast to drop precitu....preciptoo....a lot, so I dunno. Nothing worse than a cold, wet sophisticate...

Cooper also thought the ideal general purpose rifle was a bolt action scout type...

Anyway, I believe you're thinking of Elmer Keith in regards to revolvers.

Yeah, that sounds right. I'm still trying to figure out why the Japanese attacked Pearl Bailey.

A good revolver is the only practical* way to shoot heavy calibers. (shout out to full house 10mm) In smaller calibers there's been a paradigm shift to autos.

*There are things like the 45 Super, 460 Rowland (I may fall for one of those someday) and 50AE but all are awfully niche compared to common revolver rounds.

I’ve never really understood his obsession with the scout rifle concept. As are most things in the firearm world, there is nothing new under the sun. The Germans pretty much had that system down in the 40’s. As we see below.

Ah, I’m a nostalgic semi old guy going through a midlife crisis. It is what it is lol

I’ve always shot revolvers better than most autos, other than the 1911.

Actually one of the best revolver guys in the business is located just outside Knoxville. Hamilton Bowen.

+ Bowen Classic Arms + About B C A

I keep thinking I'm going to treat myself to something from Bowen, maybe a .475 Linebaugh conversion. Eh...maybe someday.

Indeed. Mr. Bowen is a national treasure, his work is simply astonishing. I REALLY want his Keith #5 re-creation.

I draw the line at the really heavy .44 magnum loads, 300 grain hammerheads through a super Blackhawk. I shot a buddies Ruger super Blackhawk Bisley in .480 Ruger and it let me know my limitations really quickly. The same buddy with the .480 has a freedom arms model 97 in .500 Wyoming express ordered. I asked him what he intended to do with it, his reply, “whatever I want to” gotta respect that. I’m sure I’ll end up shooting it at some point lol

In revolvers, being what they are, I pretty much find myself only interested in either nostalgia or "interesting" in a big bore kinda way. I think your buddy and I share a common like of "for the hell of it" in such things. Also, as a handloader I can go mild to wild at will. Stuff even a .500 S&W with Trail Boss and let Grandma start blasting away. Fill 'er up with H110 and you can* send 500gr downrange at 1400fps.

*can - not to be confused with "something I plan on ever doing"

I can't talk to you for a couple of months. I have been put on "gun spending probation".

So...use Pig Latin, and refer to me as "Geronimo". That oughta fool her for a day or two.

You're not married to a really good woman who is walking out of Winn-Dixie a couple of weeks ago, and is approached by one of the parking lot nomads you find from time -to-time. He asks for a light; she says she doesn't smoke; he asks for five dollars; she says "I have car keys and a pistol in my purse, which one do you want me to pull out?" He wobbles off. I know this happened, because she had our 10-year old nephew with her. She swore him to secrecy, but of course you know he had to tell me...

So...probation it is.
