That's my take on it too. KMac knows the bar is being raised and Pruitt's gonna demand the toughness that UT has been missing for quite a few years now. By sticking around with this new staff his senior year Kmac would have gotten better and also likely would have projected better in the draft,IMO. He has family connections so I'm sure he knows some things we don't. I've always viewed him as lazy and soft since he showed up on campus way out of shape. I think he's riding his dad's and uncle's coattails for all it's worth.

Will be a serviceable NFL player with the right coaching and some patience. Good luck man! Wish we had gotten to see him in some better situations.

And I don't think it is about anyone pushing anyone out for being soft.

I do believe that Pruitt may be planning to change to a very different defense whether he has the players or not. And I think some of these players may not fit into that defense - thus they are weighing the options of leaving.

If KM really wants a shot at the NFL, unless he thinks next year can improve his stock it is probably better for him to leave instead of sticking around to play a defense that may not suit his ability.

Khalil is no where near pro ready.
He will regret this decision.
Let the new coaches get him tuned up, have a stellar season then shoot for it.

He could have really maximized his potential under Pruitt. I think he'll do well in the NFL, but he could use another year under a better system.

He definitely wasn't a dominate force in college. I wish him the best hope he plays well enough to have a career in the NFL.

I think it's a matter of expectations. Fair or not there was never the impression we had another Haynesworth or Henderson out there as hoped.

It doesn't help (by way of comparison) that we have somebody like Trey Smith come in and actually look like what we expected/hoped he'd be.

Bottom line is this...he can "afford" to go pro because he can live off daddy's paycheck. He doesn't need the NFL payday that causes some to go pro before they should. He's soft and a huge disappointment. He brought so much hype and promise, and I'm really not that disappointed he's leaving. It's not like we are losing a stellar contributor.

He's just a DT that takes on double teams and stands his ground. He's not a penetrating DT that gets sacks and TFLs. To see KMac's effectiveness you actually have to watch him play. You'll never know how good he played by looking at the stat sheet.

Kahlil was really good this past season. He was our 3rd or 4th best defensive player IMO after Nigel Warrior, Rashaan Gaulden, and Daniel Bituli.

He was not required to get stronger or stay in shape as testified by Lyle himself. Some kids you can leave accountable for themselves, other not so much. If he puts in work and has put in work and has a good combine, then he should do well.

The fact that D4H is making a ponzi scheme living off of him now as a substitute for Dobbs really takes all the fun out of hoping the kid does well. Pulling for Kahlil now is like pulling for FL post season. You know you should, but it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Because you know if the kid does make good and goes 4 or higher, D4H will take all the credit for it and make 50 threads about it. Of course if he doesn't do well, we will never see his ass on this topic again.

Best of luck to him. Think another year could have helped his stock but I don't blame any of these kids for chasing 7 figure contracts and living their dream.

Yes, his father has money. No, Khalil is going to work for a living, and he’s going to make a lot of money. He’s probably going to get a degree. How about you Sport? Tell us everything you’ve accomplished in life....

For the 16 season he was the 2nd highest rated DT by some group until he got hurt. Don't know how he was graded out this year. Hard to say with so many missed assignments and missed tackles by our defense.
