Kahlil declares for draft

1-techniques don't get judged by sacks or tackles. They take on double teams and plug up gaps in the running game. Kahlil did that very well. Even if his father wasn't a GM, he would get drafted.

I think you guys will be surprised by how high his stock is with NFL people.

I focused on watching Kahlil a lot these last 2 years and he's been really good as a 1-technique. He never gets moved back. Does a great job taking on double teams. And plugged his holes very well.

KMac was a lot better than you guys give him credit for.
It is sad when D4H is the voice of reason in a thread. You should all be ashamed.

How much do you think his absence is having?

Honestly I am not sure how much it has really been that big of an issue. So far not a single player who has declared was going to increase draft stock by coming back. I have a feeling Kmac goes really late as a favor to daddy. I think Gaulden goes by the 3rd. Kelly may go around 3-4th round as well. He and Gaulden will both have good pro days.

Outside of Dobbs, did anyone have a good senior year under CBJ? Maybe that's why everyone's leaving.

I remember watching countless guys and thinking "they'll have a big senior year"

JRM-injured
Sutton-Injured.
Croom-never used
Maggitt-Injured
Obrien-dismissed
Pig-dismissed
Josh Smith-injured
Marlin Lane-rarely used

Once upon a time D4H was on my IGNORE, but I brought him back for entertainment value. Worst VOL season ever needed some laughs. :eek:lol:

beginning to think that Freak has him on the payroll and springs him when the offseason doldrums kick in...you know, something to get the clicks going...:)

Your list includes 3 guys with actual NFL talent. JRM, Sutton and Maggitt (who could never stay healthy). Obrien and Pig preferred drugs over playing. Is it really Jones fault then that they never developed? Croom is the classic "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane." Josh Smith and Marlin Lane, for crying out loud, are you kidding me?

Smith had a very good freshman year and then was never used again. Similar to Tyler Byrd. Both were capable slot WRs who never got the ball. JRM, Sutton, nor Maggitt had major injury issues until their senoir year. And yes. Injuries are on CBJ. No one has ever seen the number of injuries his team sustained over a 2 year period. You can't dismiss two years in a row of unprecedented injuries as coincidence.

And for you to pretend Lane wasn't a talented RB, that's just absurd

and just to add...so much so they didn't even want to spend some more time with the new HC to find out exactly what the plans are? especially Kmac.

Yeah. I mean, they are college kids who are on that threshold of draftability, coming off an awful season, and have a brand new coaching staff coming in. McKenzie's dad is an NFL GM himself, so there's that connection there.

They probably just don't want to deal with it all, especially when the alternative is possibly getting drafted. All 3 will likely get drafted, especially if they perform well at the combine. Of course, a poor combine would likely torpedo each of them.

Also of course, each of them (especially Gaulden and McKenzie) would highly benefit from another year in college. I'm hesitant to say something like McKenzie has been a terribly disappointing player, because he has played a lot and been a contributor, but he came nowhere clear to living up to his potential. He has first team all-SEC, 1st round pick-type of physical tools, IMO.

I think this may be the case of many of them. Why learn a new system for one year? Also, they are going to be competed for playing time against guys who were recruited by the new coaches. Taking a chance on the draft isn't that unreasonable in light of the circumstances.

Big time loss. He's the only true nose tackle we have.

With that said, he'll get drafted higher than most think. He was great this past season.

Solid NFL starter.

He is doomed... has now received the kiss of death.

You need to go play a few downs... maybe bleed a little before making these big declarations. Your yappy little puppy routine is way past old.

He's going to get paid. Bottom line.

I would say he is doing because he has been injury prone and realizes it’s probably his best chance now. If by getting paid you mean the league minimum for a rookie, then yes I agree. He isn’t getting 1st or 2nd round money by any stretch of the imagination. If college level lineman routinely push him around, I can’t imagine what a good NFL lineman will do to him

If I was a scout for an NFL team, you would know it. That team would win the Super Bowl every year.

My player evaluation skills are that elite.

Your idiocy is only rivaled by your arrogance.

You know next to nothing about football... and that's being very kind.

Well, it certainly makes Butch look bad.

I can understand Kelly going (being a RB) and perhaps Gaulden (could be unsure about his role in the new defense given the unique way he was used in Shoop's defenses).

McKenzie I think still has much more he could prove. I think he is the easiest of the three to make a case for staying. Of course, he also has obvious NFL connections.

Maybe Butch would look bad if Sutton, Kamara and JRM hadn’t come back the previous season. This is more likely due to a disastrous season and a new coach with that factor of the unknown in your last season...ala Tyler Bray.

Tennessee was dead last in the SEC defensively in yards per rushing attempt at 5.43.

You don't finish dead last in rushing yards per attempt with a nose tackle who is getting it done.

No, it's not a big loss.

Nobody got it done with Butch. McKenzie's ceiling is high. I think this decision will cost him $$$.

I was told none. It's a dead period.

According to some, the extent of being the head coach at UT merely involves recruiting.

How are those two a days Mullen is running in Gainesville?

Alriight, I did the D4H thing and pretended I was a professional scout.

I watched the Georgia Tech and Georgia games.

First of all, I didn’t see him get penetration once. Most of the time he was single blocked. He has absolutely no lateral quickness and doesn’t fire off on the snap of the ball. The o-line delivers the blow to him. He does not deliver the blow to the o-line. He doesn’t get off blocks very well either.

He did, by and large, hold his ground on numerous occasions, but did not effect the play. But, I didn’t see any play that was designed to go in a certain direction where the running back had to go somewhere it wasn’t designed because he disrupted the play.

Pass rush is non existent. Doesn’t push back his man into the pocket.

Based on what I was looking at, he needs to gain 60 pounds and turn into Gilbert Brown or Ted Washington to be of value to a team.

I think he's planning on getting drafted into the front office, not the playing filed.

99gator is absolutely correct. Never seen a "5 star" DL turn out to be as big of a bust at this kid (and I was truly pulling for him to be great.)

All of these guys come out of high school entitled. Successful college coaches knock them down quite a few pegs and then build them back up, hopefully to elite status. The last few years the results at TN indicate that high school entitlement turned into college complacency. I hope it's not too late for these guys going pro. I support their decision but am skeptical about their ability to take instruction and criticism at this point. Also, great trolling in this thread.
