#2 ranked OLB commits to Vols!

Agreed but remember that CBJ recruited well too, so now the big Q is: Can Coach Pruitt COACH THEM??

THIS!! It's a great start no doubt, better than I expected actually. However, it's just a part of the equation, it all has to do with the product he and his staff puts on the field. CBJ's final season was perhaps the worst UT team I have personally seen take a football field any where at any time and I've been watching and listening to UT games since my childhood began in the mid fifties.

Commentator: when Peterson is on the field, he's like a heat seeking missile

Going back to Johnny Majors, I can't ever remember Tennessee having a linebacker being like a heat seeking missile......Peterson is a great get!!

Do you follow VOLS football at all? UT has had numerous outstanding LB's since Majors starting with Al Wilson.

Lol Pruitt is an elite coach

... The others you mentioned were good but not in the category of Wilson. Actually, I would put Thompson and Westmoreland in front of Burnett, Simon, and Mayo (although Mayo did excel in the NFL)..."
That was an awesome duo that didn't get as much credit as they should have. I loved watching them.

I'm really excited about this guy. Ready to see him dominate.

Then give him 3 years, He will be an 18 year old true freshman this year and this is the SEC.. Needs 15 to 20lbs of pure muscle and a solid 2+ years of coaching and training to get to the dominate level.. Contribute maybe yes, Dominate takes time to marinate and grow,

I get it that the LOM are miserable and have a right to be after recent hiring fiascos.

But all I would ask is that this guy (Pruitt) be given a chance before you or I posture against him.

Only 2 years ago at this time, extended family and Michigan friends of Butch were clamoring for another extension which would have added more to the buyout. What a revolting development that would have been.

So UT and the AD need to set a parameter for extensions based on winning a conference title or a division title at a minimum.

But we all need to give Pruitt a fair shake and he is doing something right to attract some hot recruits. That's a good start even for our LOM (Legions of Miserable) base support, is it not? :clapping:

Are you serious?

Damn straight Skippy. Including Phil and his last group of coaches, we have had 4 straight coaching staffs that could not coach their way out of an open paper bag. Just cuz Coach Pruitt can recruit and be a good DC does not automatically translate to being a good HC. Of course I, like you, want him to succeed but, those are two entirely different subjects.

Right now I am walking beside the Coach Pruitt Bandwagon. If he can prove to me, a loyal Vol fan of 50 years, that he can coach ON THE FIELD, I will gladly jump up on the Bandwagon.

Go Vols - good day yesterday!!

Can we take it one step at a time? One of the keys to being our coach is being proven undeniably. The other hasn't even had a chance to start. Evidence shows the entire staff can, only time will tell. Nothing can be done yet. Every good article has to have a plethora off topic posts. Post about a highly touted LB recruit commiting has nothing to do with coaching ability, only recruiting ability. We just take good news for what it is and quit trying to poke holes in everything.

Not yet he can't. He is still trying to coach a team to another national championship.

Enough of your big Qs.

I believe we have 17 recruits confirmed this year and the maximum scholarships available each year is 85. Where can I find information on the total number of scholarships the Vols currently have and how many we have available for new recruits in 2018 ? Are there any strategic reasons where a school will not use all the scholarships available and roll them over to later years ?

I was looking at Matt Brown’s ranking of the new coaching hires < Ranking college football's head coaching moves. | Sports on Earth > and he ranks them as follows, with UT 11th. The last number (in parentheses) is each team’s current recruiting ranking (per 247).

1. UCLA -Chip Kelly (38)
2. Nebraska -Scott Frost (41)
3. Texas A&M -Jimbo Fisher (22)
4. Florida -Dan Mullen (17)
5. FSU -Willie Taggart (33)
6. Arkansas -Chad Morris (78)
7. MSU -Joe Moorhead (23)
8. Rice -Mike Bloomgren (124)
9. SMU -Sonny Dykes (74)
10. Oregon -Mario Cristobal (15)
11. UT -Jeremy Pruitt (16)

I don't know where the other guys started but Pruitt came into a dumpster fire (recruiting had gone from a #5 ranking to the mid- to high=40's). I'm becoming more and more excited by this hire and want to offer my thanks once again to Coach Fulmer.

Oregon had the #5 class when Taggart left.

You can’t. Classes are set at 25 and rosters to 85. They used to allow backcounting, not anymore.

you sign as many as it takes to get you to 85 but no more than 25....I'm not sure what that number is this year. We have lost 5 non seniors by my count but I'm not sure how many scholarship seniors we lost.

so much for ESPN's narrative that we ruined our class and it would take us years to come back

ESPN's Campus Conversation 12/21/2017 - Wrapping up the Early Signing Period.

Ivan: "...the lowest ranked teams in the SEC were Tennessee and Arkansas. Tennessee was 44th, which is, you know, the middle of the pack probably tending toward the bottom of the pack in the Power-5. Arkansas was lower. [ESPN] only ranked -- all I saw of what we did was the top 50. But, uh, that to me was surprising, especially given that teams like Kentucky and Vanderbilt were in the mid-30's, which I think is pretty good for them."

Brad: "Yeah, and Tennessee back in October, before it became obvious that Butch Jones was gone -- their class was ranked number five."

Ivan: "Oh, yeah I remember that, wow."

Brad: "and I realize this wasn't a typical coaching transition, this was a complete dumpster fire. But to lose almost everybody. That's hard to do, but I think, you know, if there'd been a little more time for Jeremy Pruitt to just kind of get his ducks in a row, and no one could sign until the first week of February, then I think Tennessee would have been able to salvage something."

Ivan: "That's a good point."

Brad: "As it's most likely gonna turn out, they're not gonna get much out of this signing class at all."

Heather: "I mean, where else did we write more about who didn't get hired than who did get hired this year? Tennessee! Right!"

<group laughter>

Heather: "Tennessee - it's funny you mention that one, because that was the one that I looked up first, Ivan, out of pure curiosity to see where they landed. Because you look at it, and you think -- my first thought when I saw that Tennessee was so low was 'It's gonna take him a loooooong time to get this thing back.'"

Ivan: "Well, and and, yeah. And another year longer just in terms of just this recruiting class, that's a good point."

Hahahahaa Hah.

Sorry your narrative fermented and turned as sour as your persimmon face, heather dagrinch, you gollum looking stink eyed creature.

But who said, "I'm sorry, but at your press conference, my journalistic integrity demands that the very first question be, 'what did you know about systemic child abuse at penn state' and thats a tough way to start as a head coach."

Oh yeah, but heather said that before the fans took control. While the co-defensive coordinator of an also ran was going to be our coach. The narrative shifted once that crap wouldnt stick to Tennessee any longer.

Then we were dragging a fine man's name through the mud. LOL. espn doesnt hate us. They hate truth, equality, integrity, consistency or anything else sensible or respectable, and apparently chinese people named similar to great generals of american history.

They love juicy stories though. And stirring up seemingly clear, stratified layers of sense, finding the muck at the bottom, bringing it up into a homogeneous stinky mess.

Then they get together, consult parent companies, corporate heirarchies, and agents of the entertainment establishment, in order to deflect and place blame for the noxious sh1tpot stinking up the landscape.
