It’s WSU. They have a team full of 2 stars. If Bama had a team full of four stars, news flash. He’d lose it plenty of games 42-17 to teams that have better talent. WSU was a 2 win type of team for years. Leach has worked miracles there. I think he’s a great coach. He’s never been anywhere that has elite talent. What could he do with it? I think that was the appeal to Leach.

Pruitt was on NOBODY’S original coaching wish list. He wasn’t even mentioned as a top coordinator candidate, coming in behind guys like Tee Martin, Josh Huepel and Brent Venables and others. Would you have wanted Leach at UF? Would you feel confident that Leach could win the SEC at UF?

I don't think Leach could win the SEC at UT. I don't think he could assemble the staff to recruit and win in the SEC. Granted, that is just my opinion, but I just don't see it.

Yes, Pruitt is an unknown, but I at least can't say I don't think he can win the SEC. But I can at least look at his history and say this guy has the connections in the South, has the recruiting chops, has been in multiple NC-winning programs, to show plenty of potential to win the SEC.

And yes, I would expect him to struggle the first couple of seasons, but not for the reasons you think. This team will struggle this next season because it was 4-8 last season, because the culture was bad, because there was lack if depth at several positions, because the S&C program was bad. Any new coach would have to come in and change that. Some players will leave because they won't be tough enough for the new culture.

Saban went through it at Bama with a 6-6 first regular season. Mullen will go through it at UF because the gators problems under Mac were very similar to UT's problems under Butch.

And Pruitt sounded much better than you want to give him credit for in his presser. He said all the right things, he just happens to have an Alabama country boy accent. But I've seen plenty of Mullen pressers. He comes across goofy as hell. But I doubt gator fans give a crap, because UF didn't hire him because of his prowess in pressers. Same for UT. They were both hired to win championships.

And you think his recruiting would approximate what Pruitt has done? I think his staff would be pretty poor also.

As much as I admire what Leach has done in his HC gigs at TT and WSU, and during the Currie debacle was even thinking we should try to get him, I came to the conclusion about the time Currie was getting fired, that Leach's approach might not translate very well in the SEC and in particular he would be a square peg for the round hole UT needed to fill. With Pruitt however, I am all in. Just Win Baby!

You are right IMO on the recruiting and staff concerns. Leach is brilliant and could win a lot of press conferences, and given the right opportunity and enough time could probably build a winning program in the SEC. If he didn't wear out his welcome first, which likely would have happened here. Compared to Pruitt, I think Leach would have been more of a gamble and less of a fit at UT.

And Kentucky won 12 games in two years with Leach as the offensive coordinator.

He sucks. Cal shut him down this year. Must be all that Cal 5 star talent.

Mullen is 32-38 against the SEC.
