What do we expect from Pruit next year?

Teams more talented that Tennessee on the schedule.

Auburn, Georgia, Alabama.

Teams with equal talent.

Florida.

Everyone else has less talent. In some cases way less. Just because Butch failed so utterly had had ridiculous losses to them doesn't mean that we should expect Pruitt to, unless he's not a good coach.

A good season next year would be 8-4. The floor should be 6-6. That would mean we lost to teams with less talent than us but would be somewhat understandable with the new system.

Well stated, but i think UGA is as equally beatable as UF because they lose so many seniors this year. To me, if CJP is better than average, we get to 9 wins. If he is great, we take out AUBURN or Bama, and with ALOT of luck both!

Just remember, if we were not so predictable, on both sides a of the ball, we wouldve had 8 wins this year! We have the talent, just need some development and PROPER USAGE!

Tennessee will be worse next year than they were this year. He has hired an inexperienced coaching staff. He doesn't have a clue what he is getting into and he is not going to have a clue as to how to fix it.

This may be the worse hire in Tennessee football history.

Heck, he is still coaching bama.

It will be so bad, I think he will be gone by the end of his second year.

The lesson will be do not hire a coach from bama.

Georgia does lose some sr on defense, and Smith is gone too most likely, Patrick too maybe, which would mean they only return 4 starters on defense. But that offense only loses 3 starters, even one of them being Chubb and his backup, that frosh back and Holyfield alone with the 1 and 3 backs in the 18 class we can't expect a huge dropoff, OL loses 1 starter and 1 WR. Fromm with another year, a more mature OL their offense may be better. Still quite a bit more talent in Athens than here on both sides of the ball. We only have 4-5 who would start for them.

6-6 may be our ceiling next year. I'd be pleased with 7-5. And NO we won't be worse unless we have an epic exodus of players and/or another ridiculous injury epidemic. Having new coaching blood should energize this team and it hopefully will be night and day in play calling from this year. I expect the defense to be gritty and put forth a lot of effort. NO QUIT.

If our offense can go from terrible to average, and if our defense can stop the run then I don't think 8-4 with wins over WVU and Florida is out of the question.

But overall I'm just looking for SEC toughness and competence, two things we've lacked for a while.

3rd in the east? final 4?

Improvement. I think on paper he’s putting together a good staff of guys that can definitely recruit and develop players, their track record shows as much at their previous stops. I don’t want to put expectations on this upcoming season just yet. I’ll say that I don’t think we are as bad as people think we are from a talent standpoint(not as good as some think, either) but I do think we have talent at the positions that are important and the right coaching can bring that out in these kids. Anything better than 6-6 and I’ll be happy. I’ll be able to deal with a 5-7 type season if we look competitive in losing. I know that’s not okay and not acceptable here, however I want to give Pruitt a bit of a learning curve. Not everybody is going to do what Kirby Smart has done so far at UGA. He walked into an extremely ideal situation and fairly well stocked cupboard. Pruitt doesn’t have the benefit of either of those.

I can see in the very short term the injury situation actually getting worse because I think Pruitt will practice these players with an intensity to which they are not accustomed. This is a very necessary first step towards making the Vols great again, but it could be tough to watch at first.

My experience tells me regardless who our S&C coach is if we start winning games in bunches injuries will decrease if not disappear. Winning cures all, it’s more than a cliche it’s a fact I believe. Yes, I’m implying that losing and the way we’ve been losing forms a byproduct of players magnifying if not manufacturing imagined ailments. I believe when a team is dysfunctional players don’t want to be a part of that and to remove themselves from the situation, oh no another injury.

Are you for real?? Are you a VFL???? None of us KNOWS what will happen next year. We could go anywhere from 5-7 to 8-4 it all depends on coaching and recruiting. I like the staff being assembled and I think JP is doing his due diligence to rebuild this program as fast as possible. Give him a chance will ya?? I’m giving it 2 years then I’ll decide if he’s the long term solution....yes this past year SUCKED but that has NO bearing on 2018 if players are developed right. We just need to be patient for first couple years then get all pissy if things don’t go right by year 3....

I'd like to think most of these young men have had it drilled into them at the hs level that there is a big difference between hurt and injured. Many of the Vols under CBJ underwent surgeries, sort of difficult to hang a medical condition requiring a surgery on a kid to dogging it. No doubt winning does cure a lot of boo boos, I just want us to be careful we don't tar kids that were truly injured with the same broad brush asw kids looking for an excuse to sit out.,

In the name of "one step at a time" I remind everyone that over the last two regimes we now have a losing record to Vanderbilt. Thing One in my mind is to quickly and conclusively get the series back on the right track. Then onward and upward to Ga, Fla, and the like.

I would be presently surprised if this green coach with a gutted roster went 6-6 next season.
Given the depleted roster, no clear frontrunner at QB, and no more John Kelly, 6 wins would be quite an achievement in my view. 7 wins or more, even pleasanter...

I did succeed to hit the Quote button Space Coast and I agree with you and gave your unlike my like. That post surely Hoovers like a Dyson.

Has D4H been here yet? If so, take all of the games he says we will lose. At least half of those are wins. Take all of the games he said we will win. At least half of those are losses. Take his prediction for our final record, reverse it, then multiply by 3.14159265. That's our # of wins, give or take 12 X 3.14159265.

Aside from that, I have no idea.

Go Vols.

Piece of cake GreyWolf... err, I mean Pi ?

To get the full potential out of the talent he has on the roster.

And not to sit here watching it trying to figure out which players are quitting on us.

I'm going to go soft. I expect a winning season no more no less I expect us to go to a bowl game. I don't care if we win or lose just get us to a bowl game. Show us progress even if it's incremental.

My experience tells me that if we can somehow score more points than our opponents, that will greatly increase our chances at winning.

Now, both of us need to actually engage our brains before posting.

^^^ this all day

Getting sounder in the fundamentals, away from excuses/cliches, and emphasizing S&C and toughness, all which Pruitt seems to be all about, should at least cure the injury epidemic...

I'm sure some of the injuries were honest, there are very few absolutes. But I stand by my point, some players fake or magnify injuries when the team chemistry sucks.
