Being Negavol, I will agree with this until proven otherwise. But we'll see what happens when he (Kirby) no longer has Richt's players. Significant turnover next year at UGA. Look back at 2013 & 2014, Mizzou was picked to finished like 5th in the east in 2013 and 3rd/4th in 2014. No guarantees that GA is a lock for the ATL till 2019. Now I will probably have to eat my words.
I'm with you. Exactly the same scenario. My front yard has a lot of moss particularly up close to the house. They do make commercial moss killer but it comes back. I can't keep grass growing either. I have several large oaks, hickorys and maples around our yard and they suck all the moisture out of the ground in the summertime. I am currently experimenting with zoysia.
UGA will wipe our butts in Athens next season and UT legacy Cade Mays will be helping them do it. It is what it is people. We will be lucky to win 2 of our first 8 games. This is gonna take some time.
Yep..hehehe 😁 He should have checked the depth chart out a little better. He wasn't a huge need for Georgia, I think he is an inside player, doesn't look like he has the length and Georgia is loaded at guard and center with 4 frosh and the 2 they signed in this class. If he isn't long enough to play OT he could very well be a career backup. He wasn't a need for them, they just took him to keep him away from us.
It has little to do with moisture and more to do with shade. Very few turf grass species tolerate much less actively grow in it in the South. Some cool season turf grass like rye and red fescue will do okay in it but they wilt in the heat. Shallow rooted trees will compete with grass like some maples and pine trees. Zoysia is extremely slow spreading, is a warm season grass that is late to emerge, and is relatively high maintenance in terms of fertilizing and patching. Nut trees are extremely hard on turf grass. You have two options: remove the trees or create raised planting beds under the trees for shade tolerant shrubs or mulched natural areas. Having a healthy thick turf isnt an option unless you do some serious pruning on the lower branches
I'll have to live with the little to no grass then. These oaks are 36" in diameter. I think the moisture has something to do with it though. If I keep it watered, heavily, then the grass does ok. It gets a decent amount of sun. If I don't water the ground becomes dusty dry and the grass dies off quickly. The little plugs of zoysia did quite well last summer.

Anything will do well temporarily if you water it enough but its a permanent solution you are looking for and there just isnt one short of heavy pruning. A large tree will naturally block and absorb a lot of moisture but even if you were to irrigate daily there isnt a turf grass on the market that will thrive in full shade
This is the kind of grass that I'm working on in the said yard.

The leghumpers will probably clean our clocks, but Cade Mays won't have anything to do with it. I doubt he even plays against us.UGA will wipe our butts in Athens next season and UT legacy Cade Mays will be helping them do it. It is what it is people. Been 7 years since I indulged.. Can't do it anymore. I do electrical design/engineering on mining equipment and have to be certified every year to go underground (surface and underground mining cards).. I get drug tested more frequently than the average human. They take a real dim view if you get popped. Lose your mining card, job, etc...
If it ever becomes totally legal I'll probably start smoking again to deal with chronic cervical spine issues.. Would much rather smoke than take pain meds... Drug laws in this country are bizarre..
