Do you believe we have a creator, aka "God"?

Pretty much
(My dad is a PhD level science guy so we have interesting discussions. )

The theory is that time isn’t real. There is no reality. It’s all an illusion. At the end of all things those who refused G-d didn’t really exist. They won’t even be a memory for the redeemed. Because they didn’t exist

Then it would seem pointless.

That's an interesting thought experiment, but I don't know how we could ever confirm it.

Would non-physical beings still have genitalia?

We talking Christianity or Islam?

What's meant by "non-physical"?

As far as Christianity, does Christian scripture teach that we will have non-physical forms? (If you want to assume that we can interpret scripture as source material...)

:hi:

I always sort of assumed that if we have eternal souls and such that our physical form is just an illusion.

I didn't really take that from scripture, just a gut feeling

Even Paul said that we don't know exactly what we will be like, but he did say we will have a body. And he said we will be like Jesus in body.

Post-resurrection, Jesus assured his disciples that he had a body and wasn't merely a ghost/spirit. He ate with them to prove it. He still wore his scars and had Thomas put his hand in the wound. (That post-resurrection body was/is a MAJOR bit of Christian theology.)

He deifintely had a body.

But that body passed through locked doors. It appeared and vanished. It was a physical body with different properties than our current forms, which would also match what Paul taught in 1 Corinthians, that we would receive a new body with additional properties, as well as the deletion of some (mortality/death/sin nature).

So, we don't know exactly what it will be like, but I believe there is good argument that we will not be disembodied spirits.

But Jesus also said that in heaven, per "marriage", we will be like the angels and "not given in marriage". I take that to mean that there will no longer be a need for procreation, no need for sex, and we may not have genitalia.

But that is much assumption.

You're really losing me by saying no need for sex in heaven. I've got a need for it and it has nothing to do with procreation. It's fun.

Funny enough, as I wrote that, I laughed a bit knowing that I would be losing a LOT of people. The laughter was at the irony that most of the people I would be losing would be the same ones that get angry at God for being evil enough to not invite them in. :)

(PS: i love me some sex as well. In my view "fun" doesn't do it justice. And I believe God gave it to us to enjoy within context, not just for procreation. But I also think that I will be so enraptured in God's presence that sex won't even be an afterthought.)

I do not believe we have immortal souls. As the corruptible has not put on the incorruptible (Crush gets that reference). Angles are immortal already hence the need for an eternal prison/lake of fire.

My understanding was that the soul ascends to heaven, and at some undetermined time in the future it is given a body. Perhaps after the return of Christ?

Would you consider the soul to be a physical thing? Do you not believe the soul goes to heaven/hell after you die? Or do you think you get your body back immediately?

Depending on how you interpret scripture, and what context, different conclusions can be drawn because there isnt much detail. Nobody can really say for 100% sure. That said, in many many posts and talking with OC, I have never disagreed with his understanding of any scripture, to my recollection. He has a well grounded belief. The worst thing a person can do when trying to discern the meaning of millenia old texts that have been translated more than once is to take a passage away from the context it was in. Can completely change the meaning of some things. Usually when people or churches have some really radical practice or doctrine like handling snakes or refusing modern medicine, its because they pulled a line or 2 out of several pages of context and warped its ( I believe) intended meaning...

Hope that made sense. I am not nearly as good at explaining things as OC.

Of course there is a creator. There is 100% chance that nothing can produce nothing. Therefore, something created the heavens and the earth. That something is I AM.

I'm actually not dogmatic on what happens to the soul of the believer after death but before the rapture. Some believe that we basically sleep in the grave. Others believe that we go directly to heaven.

So,I apologize. I wasn't aware that you were pontificating the status of our genitals during a temporary state.

It's awfully insensitive of you to minimize the suffering of people who may have been sans genitals for ~2000 years.
